Rilarion Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Can you guys please recommend me a fantasy VN similar to Eien no Aselia minus the gameplay Edit: I wouldn't mind fantasy that is set in modern times; vampires and other creatures are cool too Quote
dale Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 you can try Kamidori Alchemy Meister or Sengoku Rance... that's what pops up in my mind without my VN list... Quote
Heizei_koukousei Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Fate/Stay night and Sengoku Rance does have game play Do you prefer medieval fantasy? Quote
dale Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Kamidori also has game play but it's still nice ;> Also you can try Aiyoku no Eustia but only one route is translated for now (at least to my knoledge) Quote
Rilarion Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 Fate/Stay night and Sengoku Rance does have game play Do you prefer medieval fantasy? Yes I prefer medieval fantasy, I' ve played kamidori Quote
Okami Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 There are very little Fantasy VNs without gameplay, and as far as I know none middle age fantasy without gameplay had been fully translated. Quote
nohman Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 If you're only looking for translated visual novels without gameplay, that significantly whittles down the already small list under the tag Medieval Fantasy on VNDB. From that list, Mashou no Nie doesn't have any gameplay, but that's just a mediocre nukige that just happens to have a medieval setting. If you're open to urban fantasy, you have the likes of F/SN, Tsukihime, and Coμ. Quote
Rilarion Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 Thanks for the info I'll turn to urban then Quote
SanadaShadow Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Have you tried the Fault Milestone One Demo? As far as I can tell, it looks like Medieval Fantasy, although the actual game has yet to get a full release. Quote
Decay Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 English language medieval fantasy options are really limited. If only Eustia's translation was complete... Well, if you want gameplay-light options, there's Duel Savior. It's honestly not very good, but it has a few merits, I think the comedy parts are actually pretty funny. The gameplay is like a 2D brawler, but it's rather infrequent and easy and never lasts long. Utawarerumono isn't european medieval fantasy but more like Sengoku Fantasy? Kinda, but it's also heavily influenced by Ainu culture. It's an SRPG but it has way less combat than Kamidori and much more story, and a better one to boot, and it doesn't have nearly as much H. It's not grindy at all, I'd say it's more story than game focused. I think I ended up liking it more than I thought I would, it may be Leaf's best game outside of WA2. If you're open to urban fantasy, you have the likes of F/SN, Tsukihime, and Coμ. And Ayakashibito! It's pretty good chuuni/urban fantasy stuff. Aoishiro takes place in modern times but it's not really "urban" as it takes place in the middle of nowhere. It's heavily steeped in Japanese mythology. Quote
Totodile Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 if you prefer VNs in medieval settings i highly suggest Tears to Tiara. It's a bit of a RPG/ moege type but it's cool and it's a Harem. Gotta love the Harem. Quote
Undying Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 well you asked no gameplay, but I doubt you find many medieval VN as good as fire emblem series. Quote
Totodile Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 i also doubt he'll find proper mideval ones without gameplay. That's unless he decides to play Boob wars 2 and i honestly don't hate anyone enough to recommend that fanservice fest Quote
nohman Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 I thought there was some charm to be found in Boob Wars 2's absurdity, albeit that charm wore thin rather quickly. I wouldn't seriously recommend it either though. Quote
Rilarion Posted September 3, 2014 Author Posted September 3, 2014 If the gameplay doesn't feel repetetive I wouldn't mind it too much, but both Kamidori and Eien no Aselia are pretty repetetive gameplaywise, therefore I don't have a high opinion on gameplay feature on VNs Quote

SanadaShadow Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 well you asked no gameplay, but I doubt you find many medieval VN as good as fire emblem series. Except that FE, despite its awesomeness, cannot be classified as a VN. ...Can it? Quote

Darklord Rooke Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Fire Emblem is a tactical RPG. People who subscribe to VNDB's definition of a visual novel would say the game has 'visual novel elements' if it contains a 'novel narrative', which I don't think Fire Emblem does. And thank you, this confusion regarding the definition of a VN reminds me that I need to complete something I started a while ago. Quote
SanadaShadow Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 well then try fire emblem and utawarerumono, both have excelente story Quote
theboxcarracer Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Other people have already recommended Fate/Stay Night, and I'm going to have to join in. It's pretty good. It's not the best thing you'll ever play, and it has some (totally unnecessary) H-scenes that are downright weird (like, weirder than they usually are, the first one you come across still creeps me out) but it's still pretty damn good. Highly recommended. Quote
SanadaShadow Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 It's too bad I'll never be able to play F/SN. Going by the manga though, it's downright awesome. Quote

As I said, it has vn elements but I dont know other good vn with a medieval fantasy setting that I could recomend. Well, in my opinion FE's always had bullshit stories and deus ex machinas everywhere. Utawarerumono is a legitimately good choice, however. Also, it's excellent. Not excelente. It bothers me. I think that depends of the fire emblem, path of radiance and sacred stones had awesome stories, the rest are not bad either, and the excelent part was a mistype. Quote
