InvertMouse Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Danganronpa 2 comes out today in Australia, so I was going to finish Sorcery Saga last night. It would have been an awesome transition. After raiding the final dungeon for around 3 hours, I died on floor 37 and lost everything. Nah (;u;)~ It sucks, but I will probably retry after I am done with Danganronpa 2. Anyway, that was the first roguelike game that I have spent a significant amount of hours in. Their punishing nature makes every choice you make seem extra important. That is always good in my books. Now I am interested in trying out some more. Anyone got some titles to recommend? Being on a visual novel forum, games with anime aesthetics are obviously a bonus (>//w//<). I heard about the Izuna series on the DS. Anyone played that? Feel free to share any general thoughts on roguelikes as well. Thanks . Quote
Stray Cat Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I've typically avoided this type of game since I don't enjoy grinding for the sake of grinding. I've played both of the Izuna games and enjoyed them quite a bit. Though I wouldn't classify them as ridiculous you will die many, many times. I would recommend them. There's also Pokemon Mystery Dungeon if you like that. Quote
nohman Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Are you looking purely for roguelikes or are roguelike-likes fine? Quote
InvertMouse Posted September 11, 2014 Author Posted September 11, 2014 That's cool Stray Cat ~ Roguelike-likes are cool with me nohman . Quote
Heizei_koukousei Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 There's also Pokemon Mystery Dungeon if you like that. Mmm those 99 floor dungeons that make you restart at level 1 (for Jirachi and Celebi) If you like grinding, Mystery Dungeon is your game Quote
nohman Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 For Roguelike-likes, I'll skip over the obvious things like BOI and Rogue Legacy that you're most likely already familiar with. You're probably familiar with this other stuff too, but: Our Darker Purpose Crypt of the NecroDancer Sunless Sea Legend of Dungeon Magicite ...to name a few that I personally think are pretty rad. All are pretty fun to play, but for some reason I always prefer watching people play them on youtube more. It's probably cause I suck at this kind of game. Quote
InvertMouse Posted September 11, 2014 Author Posted September 11, 2014 Thanks for all the suggestions folks ! Quote

mattroks101 Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Cataclysm DDA is my favorite roguelike of all time. Next to Dwarf Fortress. I highly recommend both of them. Quote
