VNs about self discovery

Hopefully I can properly explain what I am looking for XD. I would like to play some VNs that are more about self discovery than external journeys. As in, nothing about battling demons, etc.

 

Though Narcissu involves getting to a physical destination, it fits this literary type of approach that I am looking for. A small cast learning about themselves with the journey taking more of a backseat. Yes, speaking of which, a small cast would be ideal as well, I think. If there is some VN out there that features only one character talking to herself, I would like to know about it.

 

It is pretty obvious that I am inventing my descriptions as I am going on. Sorry if it is a little confusing. It is research for something I have planned, so shorter titles would be great. Thank you tons for the help !

Hmmm, I'm not sure if it's quite what you are looking for, but Collage has a small setting and focus on character development  in a normal-but-not-so-normal-for-a-visual-novel way. I'd at least look into it. It's short (~5 hours to read, probably) and different from anything I've ever read so far.

tbh, this is one of the few requests I'm not confident of being able to answer... while a lot of VNs have elements of self-discovery included as part of the story, ones where self-discovery is the central theme are almost unheard of.  At least part of this is because of the negative attitude the Japanese have for jibunsagashi.  It is considered an abandonment of social responsibility... and considering the fact that the Japanese place more value on the individual's responsibility to society than the individual's responsibility to himself... well the results are predictable.

 

That said, one comes to mind...

 

Konata yori Kanata Made (despite the fact that there are events to the story, it is mostly about the protagonist's personal, internal matters).

 

It says a lot about how rare that type of VN is that I've only played one that I think might suit you...

 

To a lesser extent, Eden* comes to mind, for the latter half of the VN.

Thanks for the responses everyone! Arakura, I will look into Collage if it is a short experience .

 

I have actually played True Remembrance way back when it first came out. To be honest, though, I have pretty much forgotten everything about it ^-^;.

I also thought about Eden*, you should try it, its also pretty short and nothing else comes to mind to be honest.
