Koisu Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Hi everyone! New to the community so this is my first post >< Anyway, the title is pretty much self explanatory. I'm looking for a translated visual novel that was made fairly recently (2007 and on) When deciding upon a new VN the art is a considerable factor; a VN that possesses extremely good visuals, but is based on an engaging plot with twists and turns is mostly what I am looking for. Personal favorites as of now include Grisaia no Kajitsu and Aiyoku no Eustia. However, even if the Visual Novel has only good artwork but a mediocre storyline (such as Koiken Otome) I'd still love a rec on that ; u ;)/ Thanks so much! ^^ Quote

Eclipsed Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 I hear ya. I kinda got spoiled by reading some of the more modern VNs that sport beautiful visuals with 720p HD widescreen goodness so I haven't actually been able to get into the mood to read the older legends like F/SN, Muv-Luv, Ever 17, etc etc . I will one day though, so veterans don't chew my eyeballs out please xD. Anyways, welcome to the forums! Yuzusoft in my opinion has some pretty nice artwork in their novels Dracu-Riot! and NobleWorks so you may wanna check those out, though keep in mind both of them are only partially translated. (Dracu Riot has common route + 1 heroines route (Elina) while NobleWorks has common route) **Disclaimer: Do be very careful though. Yuzusoft actually changes character sprite expressions in real time to go with what the characters say (their expression changes throughout their lines rather than line after line), so after reading these novels, other VNs might feel a bit... static Dracu-Riot! Noble Works Koisu 1 Quote
sirjabberwock Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Steins;Gate! The character designs for it are soo incredibly unique, and the story is thrilling as well. Quote
Monmon Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Visually appealing? hm....i`m okay with any kind of arts, however try this Forterial Oozora Osadai Shinikiss Yoriruri Quote
Mr. Meogii Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Sharin no Kuni, Would be your best bet. It has an amazing story. Quote
Life Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 I would say rewrite but the plot may be a little disjointed. Quote
Koisu Posted October 18, 2014 Author Posted October 18, 2014 Thanks so much for the recommendations, guys! :'D I guess I'll try Sharin no Kuni, heard lots of good things about it (although the art doesn't appeal to me). Really love fuwanovel works like Dracu-riot and Noble Works...but I have to wait for the full Eng Translations for them, and unfortunately Staircase Subs is dead (RIP Dracu Mio Waifu). If nobody can recommend one with both art and plot, then I'm just looking for a Visual Novel that has really good art, which in most cases are the more recent ones such as Dracu-riot, Koiken Otome, and the Grisaia series, etc Quote
Decay Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 I personally think sharin no kuni is kinda overrated, its story is only okay and the art is actually kinda bad. Konosora's translation is bad but the art is still pretty good and it's a good VN. You should keep an eye on Koichoco and Tasogaredoki no Kyoukaisen which will *probably* have complete translation patches released before the end of the year. I'm fond of the art in both. Clephas Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Ayakashibito, though it was made before that. Quote
Snowtsuku Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Symphonic Rain. It's art is pretty good for VNs of its age. Quote

Kimanor Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 3 suggestions: Rewrite Ef: fairy tale of the two What a beautiful series (Shikkoku no Shrnoth, ect.) If you want great paintings, go with Rewrite. If you want photo-realistic backgrounds and amazing expressions, go with Ef. If you want a very different type of art style, go with the What a beautiful series, such as Shikkoku no Sharnoth. There are many more, but those pop into my mind first. Quote
Snowtsuku Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Those faces, though. It's the artist's habit or style. Still, better than other 2004 visual novels like Clannad for example. Quote
Decay Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Both of their art is around the same level and below average, imo. Koisu 1 Quote
farispie Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Steins;Gate for its fun character art and great plot. Now I also reccomend the umineko games (with the art /voice patch naturally). Its just that Umineko's narrative structure is so unique and how it places you the reader, in an interesting role. Its a mystery where the answers aren't directly given and it forces you to put an effort it in. The music is god-like and all around feelsy. Quote
Decay Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 The PS3 Umineko's art is actually pretty great, but it's not really showy. It has a subdued quality to it, which actually compliments the story and setting well for most of the duration. And well, when the story loses all restraint, the art adapts well. But I guess it's not something you can ooh and aah at. Maybe wait for the proper PS3 to PC port to finish, especially if you're interested in having the best looking experience: http://uminekofix.wikia.com/wiki/PS3_Port http://uminekofix.wikia.com/wiki/PS3_Port_news_(October_2014) Quote

kingdomcome Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 G-Senjou no Maou hands down, beats Sharin No Kuni. But then you can do Sharin right after, it's pretty close. Quote
Nyanko Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 When I read your request G-senjou was the first thing I thought about. Since you said Sharin no Kuni art style isn't that appealing to you, maybe G-senjou style is. You could also do Sharin first, and save the best for last! Consider Muv-Luv too, even though it's <2007, it's worth it! Also, are you looking for 2007 and on because of the art? I think there are some pre 2007 ones that had pretty good art too (Muv-Luv). Based on art only (either because I didn't read it or the story isn't what you asked for): Cartagra - http://vndb.org/v515 (<2007) Chaos;Head - http://vndb.org/v382 Comyu - http://vndb.org/v1896 Demonbane - http://vndb.org/v231 (<2007) Drakoi - http://vndb.org/v436 (<2007) Eden* - http://vndb.org/v1286 Rewrite - http://vndb.org/v751 Quote
Koisu Posted October 27, 2014 Author Posted October 27, 2014 Thanks for the recs, everyone! ^^ To be honest although I loved G-Senjou's plot, I didn't consider its art appealing. Guess I'll try Eden and Comyu ^^ Quote
