Rewrite, give me good reasons to play this ...

The characters might seem inconsistent because there are things about their backgrounds you don't know yet, or perhaps you're overanalysing their behaviour. Assuming these 'sudden changes of character' are in the common, it should be within excusable limits given the light-hearted nature of that part of the game.

If you don't enjoy the common at all, you are going to have a very hard time playing through the game, which will require skipping over the vast majority of it, on-and-off rereading some sections, and reading new sections added by your new decisions each playthrough. This is by far the biggest problem I had with the game. It's reasonable enough that it might make you not want to play it, and I say that as a die-hard fan of "Rewrite".

When you say "some Characters are interesting", does this include Kotarou? If you don't appreciate the humour of the common route, I'd say there's a reasonable chance you don't like him, based on other people's opinions. I recommend you finish at least one full route (Kotori is the popular first-route-recommendation) before you decide for sure you don't like the characters. If you want to enjoy the game, you will need to at least appreciate Kotarou's character. If you dislike the protagonist, you'll dislike the game, especially the later routes.

If you really find the music that annoying, you're in for a rough ride. This game is long. You're bound to find it unbearable by the end.

Overall, I'd say you should consider dropping "Rewrite" either now or, if you're unsure, after completing a route. I, and many others, really love this game; but I can appreciate that it's not for everyone. Hope this helped.

It just that I don't understand how they act. Yoshino is both very distant and cold but as the same time is sort of Kotarou's friend. Akane I don't understand her at all but that fits her character quite well, a mysterious girl. Kotarou is interesting, he seems to easily get angry and is weird in his way to interact with others. And Lucia is just strange, period.

As said above, I may not have all the information to explain their behaviour. But as for now, I'm really confused.

The humor isn't bad, it's just that it can't fill a 10h+ common route imo.

It's just like Little Busters, The humor is good ... for 1-2 hours ... then i'll start getting sick of it.

Thanks for your input, it helped greatly.

I'm very glad I helped! I haven't much to add then except my favourite quote from any anime.

"People aren't comic book characters, you know. No character looks the same from all angles; and hell, no character stays consistent at all times." -Kaiki Deishuu

I can guarantee you that, in Yoshino's case, his inconsistency is down to good writing, not bad.

(Heh, I think I'll put that on my sig, actually. ^^)

Well, Ashadow had a nice review of Rewrite. It sure convinced me to play it.

And I think the common route is almost 10 hours, but when its over, you'll see what rewrite really is. Its worth the w8 m8 ;)

You know the common route is over when you see the full moon... With a plant-wait, is that a plant? Or is that a...? WOOOO- *Babiker was found dead the next day*

I generally have nothing good to say about Rewrite... It is like someone tried in a half-assed manner to force half-assed Key moe into a half-assed chuuni mold with a half-assed protagonist.

Quiz:  How many times did I say half-assed?

The thing about Rewrite is that there is a lot to it. It has multiple writers with very different styles of writing making it kind of hard to give a specific reason to read it. Like most things it's just a matter of you like it or you don't like it. I'd recommend baring through the common route or skipping it if you don't really care and go into Kotori's route. Her route is kind of the route that sets up most of the plot and lore of the game and if you can't find your valid reason there then just drop it. The common route tries to do too many things at once and can get really boring but if you think you can bare with it then I would recommend reading it. I wouldn't let a common route ruin something that you might genuinely enjoy, I would have missed out on a lot of good VN's if I dropped them because of a common route.

Well people have already given many reasons... I'm not sure if this will be valid anymore but here goes.

The best reason I can think of to continue would be that all the routes are their own genre of a story so even if you end up hating the rest at least one or two will possibly appeal to you based off of preferred genres. If I had to give the common route a statement of purpose with the rest of the novel I would say that it is a basis of comparison in contrast of tone.

If you want a more personal reason why I think you should continue is that I loved the themes presented. Instead of family or friends like Clannad and LB! respectively, the theme presented is something like humanity or life. This leads to a different form of overall impact and gave birth to what I think is one of the best endings I have read. It is one of the more philosophical stories I have read and it is overall a lot bigger than it seems. The quotes are very meaningful and can be used.

There are more things to say but a lot of the reasons I enjoyed it is irrelevant here or you should already know from the start of the thing but I hope this helps in some way.

At first, maybe you should overthink the attitude you show here some people who were trying to answer YOUR request. You asked a question which is nearly impossible to answer. We can all give only our opinions. Are they good enough for you? We can't know.

To your question "Reasons to play Rewrite" (they are all subjective):

- the common Route -> It is exactly like you experienced now, If you don't like it, it will become harder for you

- Kotarou is a really good protagonist.

- the Heroine Routes -> I liked them all. They are all individuals and have their own problems. And also you can get the real thing there.

- but the main reason I liked this VN a lot is the fact that you need to know everything (every route, every side aspect) to truely get the whole thing. I like it when they are able to wipe out all my question ( i collected in the previous 50-100 hours, or whatever) with only a tiny fraction of the whole thing. Even If I don't ejoyed the Terra route or the ending so much. After that I was really satisfied by the whole experience.

- it is the only VN, which you could call chuuni, I ever enjoyed. So it can't be bad ;)

If you are not able to endure a little bit "suffering" during a VN (for various, individual reasons) then you maybe really should drop it.
