Schnarf Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 preferably with vn elements. i've never really played a jrpg before so i'm looking to buy a few this christmas. ones i've already decided on getting: Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed (this probably isn't an rpg, but w/e) thanks in advance Quote
Zodai Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Persona series for sure. 3 and 4 are on the PSN, if you don't mind missing out on the extra content from the PSP/Vita ports. Persona Q comes out in a few days for the 3DS, but you'd be better off playing that one after you beat 3 and 4. 3 and 4 are only 10$ each from what I remember, and Q is probably a full release. Stray Cat Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 I personally found Conception II to be terrible but you may like it. Definitely second every Persona game ever (probably better to start with 4). Also sticking on Atlus, Devil Survivor Overclocked is really good. Catherine is also good and has a great story, but it's more puzzle than RPG. You can also buy the Kingdom Hearts remakes on PS3. Also The World Ends With You on DS is amazing. Schnarf 1 Quote
Nayleen Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 The Tales series with their tidbits (small cutscenes [story and non-related] using character sprites, see below) comes super close in actual storytelling and are great RPGs. Playing Xillia right now and it's a freaking blast. There's Symphonia (GC remake), Xillia and Xillia 2 for the PS3 and a Tales of the Abyss remake for the 3DS. Stray Cat and Schnarf 2 Quote

Cyrillej1 Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Here are some Jrpgs with VN Elements & I also included some random ones that were story-focused decision making games. Fairy Fencer F (PS3) - Some VN elements. I'd rate it a 7 (good/decent but not anything super special in terms of story or anything imo.. it's short) Tears to Tiara II (PS3) - Very good story/characters, I really enjoy it. Heavy VN elements, but you might not like if you don't enjoy tactical grid battles. Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) - um not exactly VN style, but it's jrpg, tactical war map battles. It can be a bit difficult. Fire Emblem: Awakening (3DS) - Some VN elements in between tactical battles. It can be a bit difficult, but you can marry characters and make children. Devil Survivor: Overclocked (3DS) - Tactical jrpg. It has interesting story though. Ar Tonelico III & Ar Nosurge (PS3) - Some VN elements in dive system when you get closer to female characters. Atelier Rorona & rest of the series (PS3/PSVita) - Some VN elements, focused on item creation and characters. Mugen Souls (PS3) - Some VN elements... it seems similar to Fairy Fencer in some ways. More bizarre humor. Persona 3 & 4 (PSN) - It's a very good game, definitely should give it a try. It's funny, lovable characters, and interesting story jrpg. Rhapsody (DS) - Musical Adventure Jrpg.. cute. Hotel Dusk (DS) - Heavy VN Elements, mystery solving. 999 (DS) & sequel Virtue's Last Reward (3DS) - It's very good if you want an interesting VN story with puzzle & mystery. I really recommend you give these games a try! They are some of my favorites. Catherine (PS3) - Story-focused puzzle game, decision based on morals? Heavy Rain (PS3) - Story-focused, decision making game to solving mystery The Walking Dead (PS3) - Story-focused, decision making game to get through a zombie apocalypse. Beyond Two Souls (PS3) - Story-focused, decision making game, suspense/thriller and about a girl growing up with mysterious entity connected to her. ugh... there are too many to name, so I'll just cut off there. If you ever want more ideas, you can message me^^ I've played a lot of Rpgs xD. Schnarf 1 Quote

BookwormOtaku Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Most people have listed what would come to mind first so I'll mainly be suggesting what you can get on PSN. PS3: Yakuza 3 and 4 (haven't played Dead Souls yet) Final Fantasy X and X-2 HD Arc the Lad 1-3 (PSN) Lunar 1 and 2 (PSN) Final Fantasy VI-IX, and Tactics (PSN) Xenogears (PSN) Wild Arms series (PSN) Chrono Trigger and Cross (PSN) Suikoden (PSN) 3DS: Senran Kagura: Burst (really a side scrolling beat 'em up with a level up system, but the characters and story are nice especially when you play the Hebijo story (play that after Hanzo), and the gameplay's fun, the only real flaw is the camera gets shaky) Pokemon (just pick whichever looks the nicest) Legend of Zelda: Link Between Worlds Shin Megami Tensei IV Etrian Odyssey: Millennium Girl Radiant Historia (DS) Quote
