Me too, though I would say more like half. Usually a post dies if I get some sort of "writer's block" and can't get the post to say what I planned or if I wrote it and then take a look thinking "what did I do? It is nowhere near what I planned. I wouldn't want to read that if somebody else wrote it". There is a Japanese saying "don't do to others what you don't want others to do to you". In this case it is "don't post garbage" ;)

I third this for the same reasons, though, it's probably less than half for me.

Although, may I question why you're quoting a post from 2014...?

I started reading from the start to figure out what the newly found thread was all about. I figured it was spot on and decided to quote it rather than just writing the very same thing. The date did make me consider if I should quote it or not.

Another confession: I didn't read the entire thread. I got bored after just two pages :P

It did serve the purpose just fine though. I could read the last page while knowing the concept of the thread.

So my new job starts Monday. Or does it?

I've been emailing the coordinator this week about why I haven't heard much from them for a while, and earlier today got the response "Oh, we have your start date down as May 2nd." I responded within 5 minutes with basically: "Well, look, I don't really care, but you bought me plane tickets to go down to corporate HQ for orientation on April 25th, not May 2nd, so... what should I do?" 4.5 hours later, still no response. Still debating whether I should get on the plane on Sunday or not, assuming I don't hear anything else. Probably time to engage a more responsible contact there who isn't telling me bizarre things, but seriously, late Friday is not the time to drop that kind of shit on me and then go silent.

Edit: More responsible contact is on the mail thread already and hasn't responded. RIP my job.

They responded again after I basically asked "so, should I get on the plane or not?" with "yeaaaaaaah, if you could just rebook your tickets for next week, that'd be great."

Guess I get another week of vacation. Aww, shucks.

Fk, gotta wait another week for the next episode :komari:

Better that than the other way. I tried getting yelled at for not doing what the boss wanted me to do, but forgot to tell me. It was the last day before vacation started and I was forced to work full time the entire vacation. Actually way more hours than that and as a nice bonus, it was unpaid. On the first day after the vacation, I showed up to declare "I quit" and handed over keycard and stuff like that. Naturally I was busy during the vacation to get something else elsewhere (meaning I didn't quit to nothingness) as well as figuring out how I could quit without announcing it in advance.

I would love to tell what happened next, but I have no idea because I have never heard from them again. Within a week I started going to the new place and I spent the next month or so being happy every morning because I would go to a place where people would be nice to each other and nobody were yelling or tried to shift blame to other people. I never thought that what I used to think as normal would suddenly feel like a luxury. I spent a few months in that hellhole, but it was an invaluable learning experience of what to avoid.

I really dislike sending emails. People have this weird habit of not responding to my emails. "Just email this person and ask for information" -> nope, we're just a joke of an office

Assignment randomly not graded? Email TA? Check. Get response? No, that'd be too easy. We're going to ignore you after probably losing your assignment.

Stuff like this seems like it happens to me all the time. It's disgraceful when people who consider themselves to be responsible are just so... Disappointing.

But whatever, I'm probably overreacting.

I'm tired but I kind of feel like ranting about how sucky our abroad office is.

Eh, sounds like something worth ranting about. If they're screwing you over academically because they can't organise their shit together, that'd annoy me too.

Good luck

You're gonna need a lot of it

Thanks :vinty:

I figure that if I can learn this, then I've got a pretty good head start on Hungarian and Estonian too. But it's the declensions that get me. The suffixes are a pain in the arse but I can learn them.

The three people he sent an email to

was 1. his mom

2. someone on Fuwa

and 3. himself

I'm planning on taking Japanese next semester :wafuu:

My mom is downstairs and I can just tell her something instead of sending an email, I know literally 1 fuwa email and it's not that, I'm right here so instead of sending myself an email I can just talk to myself. :makina:

Confession: I was thinking about taking Japanese last year but by the time I was allowed to start enrolling in courses the Japanese ones were already completely full.

I took College Jp 102 class. It was とても時間の無駄だ. Not for $1200~ and time spent. I could have taken a better class from the whole university catalog.  Even Crusades were worth the $$.

Last time the universities accepted new students (must have been last summer), I looked through the list of grades required to enter each field of study. If too many applies, then the threshold is increased and it drops if they have problems getting enough. Japanese stood out big time. They rejected like 2 out of 3 yet at the same time the grade threshold was significantly lower than any other language. The only plausible explanation I can come up with is that Japanese attract a whole lot of people with horrible grades. My first thought was "good thing I'm not there. It would be horrible to work in groups if that is the standard". I wouldn't be surprised if the problem is due to people watching anime rather than studying, but if they keep doing that at the university, they will drop out. The biggest problem is if two people in a 3 people group watch anime instead of working on the assignment, all 3 fail and will have to repeat or drop out. That seems like quite horrible conditions for serious students.
