What Anime are you watching now?

Finished Hataraku Maou-sama.
I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. The characters and character interaction was great, the comedy was right up my alley, and the soundtrack was great too.
I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to watch some comedy.

Yeah I know this feeling. Most of the time you get to see only a part of the whole series and a sense of conclusion is absent.
But this is true for a lot of anime though and I've kinda come to accept this fact.

Watched a few more episodes of Nozaki (which is just getting better), but realized I was getting close to finishing the whole series (which would be terrible!), so I picked up One Week Friends as well to slow myself down a bit. I'm quite enjoying One Week Friends - my powers of suspension of disbelief are immense, so I have no problem with the basic premise, but I can see where a lot of people would hate the show just for that; to each his own, though. I'm loving the way very ordinary, believable drama ensues from the extraordinary premise, and also I find the show's overall pacing to be quite admirable. I'm about 4 episodes in, I think, and looking forward to watching the rest. One thing I'm excited about is that I'm getting the vibe that this show will have a real "ending" moment, which usually does a lot for my ability to appreciate a show. Shows that resolve only a small amount of what they set up (with an implicit message of "go read the source material" ) tend to bug me.

Keep us posted - Lain has been sitting in my queue forever, since I adore the creator's other big show Haibane Renmei, but I just never feel motivated to watch it for some reason.

Lain obviously has nothing to do with Haibane Renmei, but if I could compare the two, I'd say that feeling of mystery and questions that are left in your head to think about is really present in both shows.

Lain deals with a world where humans and the internet are essentially connected, and it raises several questions about reality and who you are, it's really mind fuckey and I think the only way to properly interpret it is to read analysis online tbh.

Haibane Renmei is not straightforward but I think the themes of death, passing on, overcoming your demons, etc, really end up being self evident.

The biggest contrast between the two series is that Lain is much darker in tone with a questionable ending (as in, you're not really sure if it's a good or bad ending) whereas Haibane Renmei, despite having its sad moments, has a somewhat happy/bittersweet ending you can kind of come to terms with.

I wouldn't recommend Lain if you just told me you liked Haibane Renmei, but I can easily recommend Lain as a standalone anime because it's just one of those shows a person should watch at least once since it's so different and the themes it addresses are still present in our culture today.

Figured I'd leave my opinion on Lain in case you might not be convinced.

I'm almost embarrassed about how my social interaction with other beings is sort of similar to this girl's, minus the inability to articulate words and constant sexual perversions. I can at least squeeze out a "good afternoon" or "good day" when needed (often at the wrong time of the day).

Thanks! To be clear, I wasn't expecting something even similar to Haibane Renmei, really, but rather just expecting something simultaneously thoughtful and enjoyable. That it's a little on the dark side... that's probably why I've been shying away from it, to tell the truth - I tend to like things that are a little brighter and more positive. I'll get to it someday, I'm sure, but I probably need to be suitably mentally prepared for it.

I liked it less and less with each passing episode, culminating in pretty much hating the show by the time I was done. It's kind of the screwed-up mirror version of Welcome to the NHK, which by the end I really loved.

You should be aware that I started it with the belief that I won't be able to finish it. Whilst I can put up with it in manga, I'm absolutely intolerable to awkward situations in anime. If it's entirely comical I may be able to bear it, though.

Honestly, when I say it's dark, I don't mean it's depressing, because that's really not what it made me feel like, it's just... you need to pay attention to everything and it gets really weird.

It's not really happy and has some pretty grim looking scenes, but it's not an anime that would make me depressed, it's just... it's Lain.

I do agree with mental preparation though, you really should only watch it if you're prepared to pay attention

My god, that show is either hilarious (when you're laughing at the protagonist) or hilariously cringey (when you're laughing at the protagonist but internally you know you've been there).

Welcome to the NHK was awesome. Ending could have been better though.

Started watching Code Geass and about 12 episodes in all I have to say is GOD DAMN is this cast of characters annoying. The only people I like are Lelouch and Kallen, I want to take everyone else into a dark alleyway and beat the everlasting shit out of them.

I'm with you Fred when it comes to shows like One Week Friends. I'm very capable of suspending my disbelief so I tend to enjoy shows other people would have problems with. I recently finished Plastic Memories and I enjoyed it, though there were quite a few people to point out how ridiculous some things were.

WataMote was pretty much exactly as Nosebleed described. For me though, it was mostly hilariously cringy. I really related to her THOUGHTS but not so much her actions, since I'd say I was more attuned with social cues during my adolescence but that show hit hard with the cringe at times.

I started watching Lain forever ago but it wasn't really on my terms so I never went back to finish it. I always knew there was some deep meaning to Lain which is why I've been wanting to go back to watch it, but its hard nowadays. Maybe I've turned off my brain far too much recently to truly appreciate it right now. Wait no, I watched Tatami Galaxy fairly recently... I guess I'll go restart on Lain after I finish Koufuku Graffiti.

Finished Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun today. Damn that was good. I found the two main characters to be a little bit bland (mostly just by comparison, though), but all the side characters aside from Wakamatsu were crazy fun to watch. I really liked the show's vibe of having a stable but mostly-unremarkable central pair of characters, around which lots of crazy, fascinating satellites were playing out their dramas.

But of course something had to happen with that central pair, so here are some brief, vague but nonetheless spoilered thoughts on the ending:

The ending was surprisingly satisfying to me. Going into it, I was already resigned to getting a wide open ending for Sakura and Nozaki, not a nice buttoned-up ending like I usually prefer, and that's exactly what they went for, but somehow the writers managed to execute that open ending in a way that didn't make me mad, which is a rare feat. I think the mere fact that they made it clear that Sakura was content with that resolution, for the time being, made me also content. Regardless of the reasons, kudos to the writers on making me happy despite being stuck with a type of ending that normally drives me nuts.

Finished Code Geass season 2 just now and I have to say..... my god are people easily manipulated (irl not in the anime). There are a ridiculous amount of issues with the conclusion and it is certainly not a 9 (I'm looking at you myanimelist).

I decided to start watching the Gatari series. I started with the first one, Bakemonogatari and finished it today. It is an interesting concept and in my opinion the anime had a huge budget because of different openings and overall great quality. Overall impression was really good. The openings were spot on most of the time when you understood the meaning behind it.

Just completed watching Log Horizon Season 1 and 2. Pretty nice anime, better than Sword Art Online I should say! Hope to see a another season because it left somehow of a cliffhanger in the last episode of the second season. Now continuing my anime marathon via watching Beyond The Boundary, starting to like it already and the visual is pretty awesome!

So I finally finished strawberry panic. I had to stall it about halfway through because it got kind of boring, but I´m glad I stuck with it, as it really picked up again towards the end. Was a pretty good romantic drama anime overall, and one of the better yuri animes I´ve watched. (Kind of the exact oposite of Sakura trick, which is slice of life and cuteness.) The shoujo like build up in the show made me kind of pissed off at times, as every time the characters nearly kisse but were interrupted made me go: JUST FUC*IND DO IT ALREADY! Then again, it fits well with the nature of the show so thats not really something you can deduct points for. Giving it a 7. Definetily worth a re-watch sometime. (Totally wont skip straight to the fun scenes )
 

Time to start something new. Will probably go with something more shounen, harem, action kind of thing. Need a break from all this dramatic romance goo.

The anime is very good overall, strongly recommend it.

Though as for the games, do you have the broken engrish version of hallowed fragment, or the new, fixed version? The old translation is literally un-readable, the newer one is really good and professional. The game itself is very enjoyable and totally addicting.

Just remember, the show isn't a video game show. It's an action romance.  I have a few qualms with the way the series is presented coming from the books, but as a stand alone series it does just fine.  I'll leave it up to you to make your own impression.

I don't think it's amazing, but after getting through the most annoying part for me, it's gotten way better.

The heroine has a very very unique thing about her... Heroine's tend to be likeable, right? Else they're either kuudere's or tsundere's or some other personality type that does not make them immediately likeable. Now imagine a heroine that loves you, she clearly does, and you still can't like her too much. I like that for me, she managed to do that for a while. You may have a different experience.
