Probably because the rivalry between L and Light was the focus for so long and Near just couldn't fill that gap no matter what. Nonetheless, I don't think it was poor writing to have Light losing, I actually think it makes sense what the story was trying to achieve. The idea I believe the author was trying to convey wasn't that "justice always prevails", it was more that "no human can be omnipotent". Light was very pragmatic and tried to be perfect, but he can't be a God, and the moment Ryuk said he'd take his life was the moment you knew Light was destined to die by the hands of the one who granted him this immense power. However, if you read the manga, in the last chapter Light still has a ton of followers, so in a way he did achieve his immortality as the moral authority. Call it poetic justice if you will, but I think it makes more sense for Light to lose in the series. Sure having him win and conquer the world would be interesting too, but I believe Death Note's finale is fine as is. I understand what you are saying, and your thoughts behind the authors reasoning for having light die, and although i feel as the story would of been better with him alive, because you could actually display some aftermaths of everything, you could also use ova's and movies to spin off many different alternate endings based off of light winning. The only thing that truly bothers me about Light losing is NOT that he loses but HOW he loses. The author set so many intricate plots throughout the movie, and it really was entertaining to watch how it all unfolded. I just have can't fathom how that someone with this talent could really have light lose over a FLUKE. Mikami pretty much followed everything to the T, and once it was go time, suddenly wants to act on his own. I mean one of the major themes of this for me, was that it was a battle of wits/ideals but when it all comes down to it in the ending it was resolved on nothing more than a fluke. Honestly if they wanted to have light lose in such a lackluster way I don't even see the reason for this series having L dying because his supposed "successors" were nothing more than some half-bit kid detectives who in the end constantly had to rely on L's inheritance, their allies and luck to stop Light. But if this is also based around on the theme of omnipotence, it would make sense that these hack detectives would need to rely on everyone (and luck) in order to beat light.[spoiler/] Quote
Eclipsed Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 I wasn't able to get my hands on the 3DS's Senran Kagura Burst so I'm gonna watch the horrific Senran Kagura Ninja Flash as my introduction to the series before diving into my Vita's Shinovi Versus + Estival Versus Oh crap, and I still needa finish the Irregular at Magic High School, huh. ittaku Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 Finished My mental choices are completely interfering with my school romantic comedy aka NouCome and the OVA. It was pretty good and quite amusing, though it just notches up another scar on my unresolved harem list, awaiting more seasons of more unresolution [sic]. Quote

God I loved that anime, it was freaking hilarious. Pretty positive that's a one and done anime unfortunately. Quote

There was a "selection" that suggested "watch season2". Can't remember if it was the final episode or OVA but I suspect they were hoping for funding for another season. Quote

The DVD and BDs didn't sell very well for it, and it wouldn't be the first time this studio just dropped an anime like this, other example being Mondaiji-tachi, which also didn't sell well and hasn't been heard about anime wise in nearly 3 years. john 'mr. customer' smith Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 I just watched The Tale of the Princess Kaguya Now THAT is how you do atmosphere (and pretty much everything else as well) 10/10 for sure Quote
spademan Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 with deathnote finished, going to move on to code geass tonight Quote
Justin579 Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 I'm close to being done with ergo proxy. So far it is a 9/10 but will depend on the ending. Love the characters. Re-l has like the best name every and love her face make up and shitty personality. Vincent is pretty good. Nothing mind blowing. Pino is so cute I love her to. Although I wish it came out a few years later since there is 0 porn of it online Quote
Nosebleed Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 Started watching Konosuba after a friend irl recommended it to me. Holy shit this is hilarious and Megumin is such a best girl. I'm going to have a good time with this one I feel. Already plan on ordering the light novels as well. Quote

Was too busy (and honestly this show in specific just kinda flew over my head, it happens), I plan on binge watching everything I missed this summer though. Like, this season I literally am only watching 2 anime because I just don't have time to keep up with everything. Also I am kinda going through an anime burnout phase. I read way more manga these days. Quote
Kosakyun Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 So, after finally getting off of college for two weeks (damned required summer classes), I've been going through my anime stash with a quota of at least 15 episodes per day. Sadly, because of a birthday, I won't be meeting it today. Anyway, the ones I've watched this week are: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Movie Trilogy Oregairu S2 Golden Time Nurarihyon no Mago Flying Witch I'm planning to catch up with the others that are currently airing as well. I need that new Jojo in my life. Oregairu was the one that stressed me out from all of those, btw. Looking forward to a next season. I hope there's a next one. Quote
Jibril Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 Girls und Panzer der Film. 9/10 Best cutesy anime I've ever watched in my life and it's not even about the cutesy that makes it good~~ Panzer Vor!! CYKA BLYAT RUSH PANZER DA. Holy crap "SPEAK JAPANESE" is so true for WoT Japanese servers. Quote
spademan Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 So, I lied. Ended up binge watching code geass the past 3 days, and found it was even better than death note. Honestly really love this genre alot more than the standard high school/weak/ harem/ virtuous protag. Oh, and ALL HAIL LELOUCH!!!!!!!!! Quote
Eclipsed Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 I've put in 6 episodes of Senran Kagura. Pretty average all-girls ecchi ninja stuff, but it was a good way to ease myself into the franchise for my eventual spamming of the games themselves Oh, and I definitely have newfound appreciation for @Nosebleed's sig :3 Quote
Fred the Barber Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 I exhausted all the Sakamoto Desu Ga? episodes available while cooking, so after flipping through available shows, I found myself joining Nosebleed on being late to the KonoSuba party. I decided it was pretty cute very quickly, but got really into it after the second half of episode 3. That episode was simultaneously epic and absurd, which is a good combination for me; I like ridiculous events in fantasy settings. I haven't picked a best girl yet, but it could really go anywhere. Edit: Knowing even a little Japanese really does help when the translation is lacking. I chuckle every time I hear the portmanteau "damegami", but it makes me sad they didn't find a good translation for it. Quote
Leaf Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 I've put off this anime for a while, but now I finally started watching Sword Art Online, i've gotten to Ep.8 and so far I like it. I just wish there was more chemistry going on between Kirito and Asuna, before they become a couple. The anime does justice on the lives and deaths of it's characters to make you care about them, and being a fan of RPGs and such, it's a total geek fest for me personally. Also gotten to ep.12 in Kill la Kill, which means i'm half way through the series, I have to say that it's my fav episode so far. Quote

I give this advice to everyone, and nobody follows it, and everybody regrets it (I certainly wish I'd received and followed it), so here's one more attempt to save a person the annoyance: don't watch season 1 part 2 (the Alfheim Online arc). Just stop when the Aincrad arc ends. If you really want to, maybe skip straight on to season 2. I just stopped watching entirely after season 1 because part 2 of season 1 was so bad, but I hear season 2 is passable. The Alfheim arc takes literally all of the good things from the first season and ruins them completely, and the one good thing it introduces (Suguha) is just not worth it, both because they're constantly throwing all the screwed up stuff in your face, and because her story is doomed from the beginning in so many ways. BTY I just finished part 1 of the first season. I guess I can make sense that taking the story any farther other than to find out what happened to Asuna would kinda be like dragging you through the mud. Well thanks for the warning guys, but I still want to at least watch part 2. I just can't leave things half finished when it comes to things, i'll be sure to lower my expectations to a decent level that way the suffering I might go through be lessened. Guess i'll just be another of the FOOLS that doesn't listen to reason. Cross my fingers that season 2 will make up for things. Quote

You could probably just watch the 1st and last episodes of part 2 and be no worse off than watching the whole thing. At least then you find out what happens. Quote
