Psychopass was just great, and i really liked the callback to ep,1's introduction, the nostalgia feels were too stronk,

i hear S2 was kinda ehhh but I'll still watch it... sometime later. I feel like playing Mandatory Happiness first

Finally got around to finishing Monmusu. Not normally something I have much interest in (excessive fanservice, weak/non-existent plot), but I really liked the characters, and was curious to see where it might lead. Overall enjoyed it for what it was, got some good laughs out of it.

Ā

Spoiler

Kind of feel like it squandered its chances and potential, but meh, that's just the kind of show it is - expecting too much is probably asking too much :sachi: Would have been a cool touch if the studio had the balls to pick a girl out of the mix - even at the risk of pissing off fans.

Miia top Ā girl- snek, Suu's a close 2nd place~

Ok, I finished Monogatari S2 now and have to admit, it's one of the best animes I've watched yet. It's waaaaaay above Bake and even somewhat above Nise (not nearly enough Tsukihi thoughĀ :saber:Ā they better change that in some sequel). I'm also able to rank now somehow just how much I liked each heroine:

1. Hachikuji - BEST GIRL. Clearly. It didn't matter with who she interacted, it always ended up fun if Mayoi was involved. It's nice to see such a happy-go-lucky ghost wandering around and throughout the seasons she always served as a very important pillar in Arararagi-sans life. Ā And on a sidenote

Spoiler

FUCK THIS. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS WITH THE END OF SHINOBU TIME! FIRST OF ALL IT WASN'T EVEN MAYOI'S CHAPTER AND THEN WE GET SUCH A HEARTBREAKING SCENE WITH ANĀ ABOVE THE CHARTS GREAT CONFESSIONĀ WOAg7du.png

NO! STOP DOING THAT WITH ME. I CAN'T HANDLE BEST GIRL DISAPPEARING THIS WAYĀ :conspiracy::conspiracy::conspiracy::conspiracy::conspiracy:

Ā

Ā

Also pretty awesome adult form. Sad we couldn't spend more time with her. JUST LIKE THE REAL ONE

Ā

2. Tsukihi - Best imouto. Her OP is probably the most catchy one of all and she is such a refreshing charakter with her spontanous outbreaks and her combination of brocon and borderline-yandere. And constantly changing her hairstyle, very nice:wafuu:. The only thing in which her sister surpasses her is sex-appeal (and that's just because she didn't have a touthbrush scene yet:illya:)

Ā

3. Shinobu, Sengoku - Yeah like you see I can't really decide between them. Shinobu has this awesome 500-year-old-badass-vampire vibre butĀ can also be tooĀ moe for my heart to take at times. Sengoku on the other hand is a whole different type of adorable and looking at the Twister scenes for example I can't deny that she is one of the sexiest characters I've seen in anime for a while. Different from most people it seems, I liked Sengoku from beginning through end, even with all those changes she went through.

Ā

4. Hanekawa - That one's surprising. She started out as my least favourite character but from arc to arc she improved and stands here now. Interesting and charming character and a big help for anyone. And great tits.

Ā

5. Kanbaru - Everyone's favourite pervert. She has a lot of hilarious moments, looks nice and would possibly be higher on this list if she had more screentime

Ā

6. Karen - Strange for me that an imouto is on such a low place (well her sister makes up for that I guess). She started of somewhat annoying, but became a easily likable character after her own arc. I guess I'm just not such a great fan of the energetic type otherwise she would be at least place 5.

Ā

7. SenjougaharaĀ Ā - Yep, main heroine on last place (I wish this wouldn't happen so often). I've already written before why I don't like her so I won't repeat that. I even admit that I almost started to like her as the seasons went by, as her character improved through time just like Hanekawa. But in the end it still wasn't enough to keep up with such a high-level cast, so sorry.

Ā

Winner of the hearts: Kaiki - Seriously this guy started as a bit weird but interesting villian and become a personification of awesome in the end. He is the protagonist we truly deserve. Cynic, materialistic, and throughly hilarious. And his OP with Senjougahara is probably one of the biggest troll moments in the monogatari series.

Knocked out Psychopass S2 and the movie

S2.... Hm. Lacked all the charm that S1 had, no more pleasant rookie Akane, recycled themes and motifs, and the successor cast is super super meh to S1's, likeĀ Inspector Shimotsuki is probably the most disappointing and worthless new recruitĀ I've ever seen (tho she's kinda cute when she learns the truth about errthangĀ andĀ flips out), butĀ don't even get me started on how cringeworthyĀ it was for the writers to try to play off l0l ToganeĀ as Kogame v2, or l0l Kamui as Makashima v2, just NO!!!

Movie was enjoyable.

Rewatching Castle Town Dandelion with my wife. Fun upbeat simple show that's "different."

EDIT: Finished that.

Currently watching Angelic Layer, an old school show, which was recently put up on animelab. A solid watch so far.

Just finished Tokyo Ghoul RootA

It had a lot of potential and it's many parts were indeed done well.
But unfortunately they did not properly integrate the various parts. The pacing was a mess and every event kept on adding up more plot-holes and loose ends. The ending was especially weird, there was a nice buildup for an ending but then it just abruptly cuts off.
Still even with all the defects, the latter episodesĀ were interesting and fun to watch.

I hit that time of the year where I'm in thisĀ weird slump andĀ cant read any of my VNs or play any of my handheldĀ games

Which means it's now time for moar anime and now all you animu elitists who watch 24/7 and are thus overexposed and tired of recyclism and life in general will laugh when I say I settled on Asterisk Wars, because of

High skoo superpower/combat-readyĀ peeps, some delicious ecchi goin' ons, an op-sleeper guy protag, and most importantly, aĀ pink hairedĀ capable tsundere princess heroine? Yo this screams Generic 101, but hey it's been like 5 years since I watched one of these so I still got plenty of mileage. I think. But I'm likin' what I see so far.

There's also an S2 and the game for the Vita was localized earlier this Summer(da fk that actually happens?), hopefully after meandering with this shit I can get back in the mood to read again.

It's literally the king of generic anime. I've never seen in my life an anime that was this soulless and empty. So yeah, sure works as entertainment if you're into it.

I tried hard to like it, almost for the same reason as @Eclipsed since I love pink haired heroines, yet it was so meh all along. Not to mention it managed to add a character with the most annoying voice acting in the history of anime - that was one of its most notable features as an anime. Not good.

I personally find it fascinating as a case of study. I really meant it when I said it's the king of generic anime. It's like the best anime to study genre-particular clichƩs and how to do them the worst possible, and the art of making blockbusters out of terrible material without improving the source one bit. The MC is a Frankenstein monster of all the MC clichƩs that exist, the heroine is the awful kind of tsundere that makes 0 sense, the deadpan loli is just lazy and broken, the boobfest loli is an example of sexism in anime, etc. I love it xD

For the record, if I watched this right after something like Rakudai kishi no Calvary I would've burned AsteriskĀ to the ground fierce no hesitation, but for now I'm a tasteless ignorant sapĀ :PĀ

Glad that's the one you compared it to, for that is my reference for just how good that formula could be (plus Stella rocks my gonads.) I've rewatched that series 5 times. To be fair, I have to admit that I finished the entire season of Asterisk but that was mainly because I kept hoping it would get better during the final climactic battles... but it didn't

Lel, precisely I had been tempted to end my message with a "if you want that concept but done with some manner of taste, watch Rakudai," but decided not to since you supposedly already knew what kind of anime Asterisk was and wanted to watch it for pure, horrifying enjoyment :Teeku:

Ironically both Rakudai and Asterisk aired in the same season. Having watched both while airing my distaste of Asterisk is pretty high.

Isn't the only thing people praise Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry for the fact that the main couple gets into a relationship? Literally everything else is just LN tropes that have been done 100 times over. I seriously can not fathom why the show gets so much praise when it's just the sameĀ ecchi battleĀ romcom LN adaptation that happens every single season that has maybe one or two elements that are slightly unique but ultimately don't contribute to the series being memorable at all.

I basically put it under the "Good if you've seen a few anime, probably not so fun ifĀ you've seen more than 100 anime" category.

I agree it's better than Asterisk, but fuck me if it crosses the "generic" bar.

Because it does plenty of other stuff well, too. For one, they don't just get into a relationship, but have an actual working, human relationship, with sexual attraction being in the table. The only part regarding this that was disappointing was the episode in theĀ mountain where the anime glorified the guy's position as "I wanna wait til we are married" and made the girl feel bad for having proposed sex.

The support characters are better, even with a queer in Alice (was it Alice?).

I've seen maybe 500 anime and I love it. Why? It is indeed generic but every trope is done right. Not a single one falls flat in my opinion, and I don't just mean the relationship side. It's like the culmination of 2 decades of tropes all pulled together and executed well. Is it perfect? Hell no, it's no Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood but there have been precious few shows that made me grin from ear to ear from the start to finish the way Rakudai did. If it didn't work for you, then so be it, but there will always be shows that most people like yet don't gel with you on that level (for me it's Clannad.)

I guess I'm just too tired of this genre to findĀ any form of entertainment in this show. Ā You can say it uses its tropes well, but so do 100 other shows like it, because these tropes are so cookie cutter. There's nothing new to discover, so I can't understand what makes this one so special versus basically every other LN adaptation of its ilk. I guess I should have writtenĀ "when you've seen 100 other anime exactly like it" rather than just "100 anime".Ā

Well, count the anime adaptations that do queer characters in a non-insulting way, and MCs that get into a mature relationship with sex on the table, all inside this genre. I'd say just that already makes it pretty particular.

I dread the day where my anime roster contains hundreds of exact same anime and I become a grumpy grump, I only have like < 10 harem/ecchi/highskoo/superpower type ones and they're split over 2 years, that's why my mileage and plebnessĀ is so high(?)Ā :Teeku:

Finished S1 of Asterisk

Overall pretty enjoyable. Nothing new offered to the table, of course, but we all have our favorite foods that we can always count on to give us deliciousĀ bliss 'les you overdo it andĀ developĀ anti taste buds

One of the bestĀ parts about going through this anime though was getting to the last 10 seconds of eachĀ episode and hearing the godly Waiting for the Rain start up (i have a massive hardon for piano+violins, sue me), seriously more animus need to implementĀ catchy ass EDs towards theĀ end of their episodes, they really do a good jobĀ hypingĀ upĀ moments like finding out Kirin isĀ Rank 1 and whatnot

Lrgf1i7.jpg

Ā

Obviously Julis is best grill for me, sophisticated, capable, pink, great partner dynamics with protag, but still manages to beĀ super dere:
PfmEPm3.jpg

NGL, I was actually as dimwitted as Ayato here and would've never realized that a princess like herĀ alsoĀ wantedĀ to be patted by him especiallyĀ after seeing him pat the other grills Ā :rimu:

Ā

I'll give S2 a run sometime later, but for now I need to bail before the hawks come lynch me for lowering the standards of anime with myĀ being able to enjoy mediocrityĀ :holo:

Mediocrity isĀ god-tier compared to Asterisk.
