SilverLi Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 I had enough time to watch the anime. it felt good watching 1 - 3 episodes each day. It was enough to not get bored of it. I am really happy this club is active. Keep it up.  Someone 2 pages ago said the song I was referring to was the OP. I have no clue. I am watching it without openings/endings. Crappy DL because it was hard to find. But that would probably explain it. I have probably heard it in an anime or trancemix with music. I listen to them a lot.  More love for Ai-chan! Quote
colekitt Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 okay I'm done time for my review Story The story was as I said before very predictable and as with all visual novels turned anime was trying too hard to follow multiple routes. It really seemed like all the creators were trying to do through out the anime was make you cry but failed because of the angering characters. every episode felt like it was an hour long with it's slowness and i was constantly waiting for the next episode. Not so i can find out what happens just so that it would finally end. score for story is 2/100 characters So for the characters they were all stupid and oblivious to each other. Most of the time i was honestly hoping something horrible would happen to most of the characters 1/1000 soundtrack I found that the sound track matched the anime quite well and would say that it is probably the best part of this anime. 8/10 artstyle i thought the art style wasn't too bad the one thing that really stood out was the lips. Usually in anime you don't see the lips all that much. But I feel like there were a lot of scenes with extreme amounts of lips. 7/10 enjoyment I did not enjoy this anime at all the whole time i was just mad that they got thirteen episodes that i would have to sit though.-10000/1000 Overall From the moment i read the summary of this i knew i would hate it, I was not wrong. Usually when i start watching anime i don't like I'll stop but seeing as this was for the club i had to keep going. It has lowered my opinion of you all. so over all i give it a 1/1000000 Stray Cat 1 Quote
Stray Cat Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 I just watched the first episode of Death Parade. Â This is beautiful and it makes up for all the agony of having to watch True Tears. EldritchCherub 1 Quote
kyrt Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Here's the thing, I don't want to suggest a genre that almost guarantees something I've already seen, hence why I'm not going with SoL, Romance or Comedy (there's already tons of those people in general have seen as well).  Right now I'm leaning torwards either Horror or Psychological, but i'll debate on it internally later~ If you lean on either of those my recommendation is going to be a short two episode 40 minutes each ova called Denpa teki na kanojo simply since the majority of people have never heard of it.  I have not yet started watching True Tears but I will begin probably later this week. It seems like people have had mixed opinions on it; good it is a necessity for discussion to have disagreeing parties. To the people who disliked True Tears don't worry everyone will get a chance to sit through something they dislike eventually...not everyone has the same tastes after all.  I did however just watch the second episode of Death Parade I am happy to know I didn't misunderstand the first episode and have to say this episode was very helpful in confirming what was going on. There is a part of me though that preferred being able to interpret it how we liked but honestly it was probably necessary.Solid episode. Quote

Right now I'm leaning torwards either Horror or Psychological, but i'll debate on it internally later~ hmmm i honestly can only think of one horror anime so that might be a hard one to do. But if you would do psychological what would be in that genre. Like steins gate or chaos; head. (I realize probably not steins gate but i wouldn't mind watching it again.) Stray Cat 1 Quote
Jibril Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Okay so I'm finally finished with True Tears... why did we voted on this again... Story 5/10 The first half is absolutely slow in pacing and most of the time the story has almost nothing happening. If it weren't for the few good stuff in the second half such as the "You might be my brother" this score would be a 0/10. That being said, most of the story is.... too... convenient. The mother is simply being a bad attitude bitch and she caused most of the conflict between Hiromi and Shinichiro. Some of the conflict is completely nonsensical such as Ai... there's no reason for her to accept his best friend confession in the first place... Fortunately some parts are enjoyable although its very very little such as the plot twists although they're convenient.. Probably I only able to watch is to the end and rate it 5/10 is simply because of the picture book and the chickens. They mean a lot of symbolism and I'm a sucker for that. Characters 4/10 It's.... bad.... worse.... what's the point of Ai liking the MC again? Both share no good memories and she already became the girlfriend of his best friend. Sure though they do have some development in the end with them starting over but.... there is no need for it in the first place... Hiromi character development is average yet sometimes it felt forced as if it's simply not to her personality. The best one is Noe being amazing yet if we look at it, it's the only good development out of everyone. The MC, best friend and the older brother is shit. Especially the onii-chan. I hate you Why you incesting on not being with your sister. Embrace the siscon. hehe. I should get out. Soundtrack 6/10 It fits on every scene although all of them doesn't have that much of an impact and its pretty forgettable... Meh OP and ED. Animation 8/10 Saving grace of the anime, sasuga P.A. Works. Unfortunately the CGI of the pedestrians from aerial view and the stills are bad. Otherwise this should be an easy 9/10 Enjoyment 2/10Â I don't enjoy it in the slightest... even with the pretty art and symbolisms... Overall 5/10 Obviously for objectivity sake, but if I were to score it with enjoyment alone... meh... Stray Cat 1 Quote
colekitt Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Some of the conflict is completely nonsensical such as Ai... there's no reason for her to accept his best friend confession in the first place... I disagree If you recall the boyfriends confession shinichiro was standing right beside him. So AI had two options she could say no and tell shinichiro that she likes him but saying no would make him choose between the two so he might ending up hating Ai so she can't do that. So her only option was to say yes. IF shinichiro wasn't there she could explain her feelings to the guy but that might have been slightly awkward with both of them there so in short shinichiro is a bad person. Also who stands there and watches someone else's confession. Quote
Ezeefreak Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Finally here my review of True Tears  · Story: 8 / 10 If you’re looking for a super surprising sory with alot of twists and mysteries, thats the not the right show for you. It’s a romance so it is clearly predictable. But I think they handled it very well. I like that they picked a special part of their lives and didn’t try to put too many stuff in it. Generally I would say here „The journey is the reward“. And for me the journey was great I got a lot of feels out of it and I like that.  · Characters: 10 / 10 Yes, I’m serious about that rating. I may not like the personality of all of the characters but I like how they are created. I like the imperfection of these. Especially Hiromi ist he role model here. Personally she’s not my favourite type of character and I also would say I prefer Noe and Ai-chan. I like her selfishness and thats she’s not the typical cheering and all-loved „highschool-queen“. My days as teenager might be gone a long time but I think the way the characters are created here fits the normal teenager more. They don’t think always rationally and have higher goals in mind, they just go for their passion.  · Soundtrack: 7 / 10 I don’t remember anything o fit now. But I think everything was really fitting and the feelings have been supported good. Also it didn't overruled the main points of the show. I’m no expert in that so i’ll not say any more.  · Art-style: 9 / 10 I simply like that kind of art-style. If I remember right that was also the reason why I watched it the first time (I think it was my second or third anime). Some of the animations were pretty great and even if that was nothing special ( http://e-shuushuu.net/images/2008-05-15-101149.gif that one was really appealing I don’t know even why ). The whole animation also supported the generally, a little depressing mood of the show.  · Enjoyment: 9/10 In enjoyed it a lot. I think you can read in the other sections why.  · Overall: 9/10 If you’re a looking for a dramatic Romance then this one ist he right show for you. But you have to consider that this is nothing happy or joyful. That show focus on the romance and relation between the characters and love isn’t always happy. So you have to be prepared to feel a lot of „darker“ feelings. I can understand that there are a lot of people who might not like it, but I think that has nothing to do with the overall quality oft he show. It’s just that some special genre I would say you have to love to enjoy these types of shows. I like to „suffer“ a bit while watching someone what is not really cheerful. In the end it’s still my second favourite romance behind Kimi ni Todoke. And my personal opinion is that only these two are worth tob e called romance from the poll. Kotoura-san and also Sakurasou form e are not a romance (they might have some romance stuff but that doesn’t mean thats really a „romance“) despite the fact that I love these two shows.  So thats everything I have to say about this. Well probably I've forgotten something. But anyway you know now what I think about True Tears. Quote

Of personal experience it is so damn hard to reject someone if your crush tried to fix you together. You don't want to upset your crush. I don't think Ai made a wrong decision. I can see why she did it and you are not thinking rationally about the best option. But Shinichiro did wrong watching the confession. But they are young and stupid. Quote

Also, however romantic it is, you usually don't even care about your first love at our mc's age. Hell, you might even like tons of people afterwards. Ignoring this, having a first love does not exactly force you to go with them. He could have easily chosen Noe... But that's just my warped opinion. Quote

Nosebleed Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 My review for True Tears (I kind of forgot )  Story 7/10 Very simple and shallow story, straight to the point, what you see is what you get. The whole thing revolves around the most basic of human relationships and how our protagonist deals with it. It's very well balanced in the sense that there's neither too much or too little of anything and everyone has their share of screentime and development and all the problems are addressed or solved. It doesn't get a higher rating however because while it was really simple and did what it was set out to do, it also stayed in a very safe, comfortable zone with nothing that really made it shine through, so you end up watching it and feeling that it was alright instead of saying it was the greatest thing ever.  Charactes 7/10 Very distinct characters that brought out the different types of emotions in our protagonist. We have two childhood friends that are in different situation and the new girl that comes into the protagonist's life, all bringing in different feelings about them. Sadly though, one of the main girls, Noe, who we are supposed to care about the most is completely bashed down by an incredibly bland character, Hiromi, who adds almost no value to the plot and the story never makes us care in the slightest for her, leading to a disasterous final episode. Aiko is the middle girl as she was rather separate from the main plot and was developed really nicely an independent. And lastly our protagonist, who is actually not a bland harem protagonist, but still suffers from a lot of their problems in which he is incredibly indecisive, but at the same time he also managed to depict a certain level of realism of human relationships when he tried solving the conflicts on his own in the best way he could think of. Wether the viewer might like it or not is different however.  So two good characters out of four. With those two really elevating the show makes me give the characters a 7.  Soundtrack 6/10 It's... bland... There's really almost nothing of interest in the soundtrack in my opinion. Nothing memorable or remarkeable, just feels like generic music that doesn't add that much value to the show.  Artstyle 8/10 I absolutely loved the artstyle in this show given its simplicity. Very typical of pre 2010 stuff with really defined strokes everywhere on the characters and darker color palettes that don't make you feel like this is some moe show or something but an actual drama. Unfortunately the usage of 3D CGI is through the roof with background characters which might bug some people, but it's not exactly a major hindrance to the show  Enjoyment 8/10 Objective ratings aside, I can safely still say that True Tears was still an enjoyable experience for me and I do not regret it, the story and characters, despite their flaws, still managed to create a non boring adventure that, albeit cliche in some parts and not exactly being "Tears" worthy () still managed to tug on my heart strings at times and i genuinely cared for some of the characters in it, it was just a shame that the ending was very 50/50, and unfortunately for me it ended on the wrong note, but that still doesn't diminish the journey it took to get there.  Overall 7/10 Trying to go mostly by objectiveness this series would get a 7/10, there's nothing that's super outstanding or that will blow your mind, but the subtle drama and the simple plot with no over the top characters/plot elements and great pacing really make this an enjoyable show to watch throughout and unless you absolutely hate every character in it, there's a good chance you wil also enjoy the  journey.  I can always go for Yaoi for the genre Quote

Nosebleed Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Calm down guys, I wasn't actually serious, I don't have anything Yaoi I want to watch (and I don't want to rewatch Love Stage). Â After some thought I decided the next genre will be Psychological. Â By psychological I mean a show that really touches the human psyche and problems (not necessarly horror) Â While I can't force you not to, I would highly recommend you stray off of anything romance oriented for a genre like this as that's when it's usually more well done. Action/Drama/Horror can go well with psychological, but romance usually doesn't give off any decent results. Â When a show focuses entirely or almost entirely on the psychological aspect rather than the other elements, that's when this genre shines the most. And hey if you want you can just look at the more highly rated psychological anime, that's fine too, but I'm really advicing you to stray off of romance, especially since it's a genre we just watched. Â So yeah, that's only my advice for when you're picking a series, I really want this to be enjoyable. Â You should wait for tomorrow before suggesting anime to watch though. Quote

Nosebleed Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Could you provide an example for your psychological genre so we get a general idea of what we are looking for ( definition usually varies a fair bit) Things like Elfen Lied, Jigoku Shoujo, Madoka Magica, Serial Experiments Lain, Mousou Darinin and I guess Higurashi to an extent. (I've watched all of the above so i'm not just randomly picking) Â Basically anime that more often than not touch issues with humans/human mind, usually they tend to involve suffering (mostly mental) and are more often than not set in more depressing/dramatic universes. Â If you want it in layman's terms: Mental suffering and mindfuck~ Quote
