Corpse Party is love~

ANYWAY, just finished episodes 4, 5, and 6.

Welp. That was that I suppose. Poor Hitoe... hopefully there is someway to fix that. I mean, considering she still seems to be relevant gives me some hope.

Akira... I really don't like her... like.. at all. Just entirely a terrible person through and through. Don't care what kind of back story they pull out on her, she can lose a third time for all I care. Let her lose a third time and have a terrible life. o-o ...I mean really.. she kills a girl to fulfill her wish of ruining someone's life... that is just bad and she should feel bad... forever. Did I mention I don't like her?

Definitely has a lot in common with Madoka, but I have a feeling that is going to change in the future. Everyone is going to suffer, and they are going to suffer a lot sadly.. (sadly does not apply to Akira). I have some thoughts about what the LRIGs really are, but I think I will keep them to myself at the moment for fear of getting too far ahead of myself.

I am liking the show so far. There are a few things I feel kinda eh about... like how the girls at their school acted like servants to Akira. Felt just a tad ridiculous in my opinion. Regardless, I look forward to the rest of it.

.... And those girls need to let the light of the love Yuzuki holds for Kazuki to shine~ !! hihihi

Again, see you guys in another three~!

So, I wasn't intending for people to vote until they had made significant headway in the show.  However, if people are fine stopping at one, those who want to continue can watch season two in the same time-frame while everyone else can stop at one.

Episode 7

I'm out. There's plenty things out there that aren't all about The suffering of girls.

Whole thing feels twisted. GG.

Twisted is love, twisted is life.

I will probably have to finish this. Get to ep 12, feel like I need to watch season 2.

I think a lot of the No for season 2, is possibly from people who are a few eps in and don't feel like the anime is one they want to keep going with?

Posted

So many voting no. Are you guys seriously okay with the last episode of the first season...

I'm guessing most people who said no are just not enjoying the anime overall so they don't feel a reason to watch S2. Of course if you got to the end you'd understand you need season 2.

If you cared for the anime you'd vote yes.

Either way I'm starting season 2 tonight so~

Yea, most people probably just started or aren't in too far yet.  I'll delete the poll for now and ask again in a few days when people are farther.  If we get the same response then we know.

Posted

Next time make sure to make the poll public so we know who voted (no random votes from people who aren't even participating).

I know.  Me rushing on my 30 minute break to both grab food and check Fuwa.

Annnnnd done episodes 7, 8, and 9.

Pretty much what I was expecting. I thought the LRIGs were Selectors who had their wishes "granted" before. However I wasn't expecting the LRIG to change places with the Selector upon victory. That caught me off guard a bit.

Poor Hitoe.. she has to go through the battles all over again. Using Yuzuki no less, not that she can remember her or anything.

Akira got what was coming to her. I don't even care about that. She told them to laugh... so I laughed at her. A lot. Maybe I am a terrible person too. xD

Nothing really to say now. Now that I am this far into it, I can now safely say that the Madoka influences are strong in this one. That isn't really a bad thing, as I rather liked Madoka.

Now the real IMPORTANT question that needs to be answered... Is it still incest!? :michiru:

I am a completionist, so putting my enjoyment of the series aside, I would still watch season 2.

Will watch 4 episodes/day. My responses will be in this format:

Overall thoughts

Episode 1

Story starts off pretty normal- we are introduced to this card game WIXOSS that everybody's playing and we have the MC Ruko just trotting around her everyday life having some banter with her grandma and brother. Ruko apparently has no friends so her brother encourages her to play WIXOSS to get to know people and whattaya know, one of her cards talks to her!!

There's also some foreshadowing of some dark & disturbing things going on behind the scenes to let us know this is no ordinary show.

Out of nowhere the next day Ruko is challenged by Yuzuki who is accompanied by her bro Kazuki (Oh gawd I could tell right away Yuzuki is voiced by the same VA as Natsumi from Non Non Biyori omg my image of her is ruined!@#)

And so we get a glimpse of how WIXOSS is played and some terminologies- Selectors, Eternal Girls -> grant wish, LRIGs, growth, lose 3x and you're out, yada yada yada. I agree with MustKill that the game itself had a Yu-Gi-Oh! vibe to it xD

Ruko names her LRIG Tama <3 and apparently Ruko is a natural at the game~ We also learn that Yuzuki's wish is that she wants to be with her brother Kazuki cuz she wubs him. You know what they say. Incest is the best!

Yuzuki and Ruko bond a bit when Yuzuki comes over to her house. Yay, Ruko made a friend!

~~~
Overall based on this episode alone and not knowing that this was a psychological genre one would get the impression that this was a casual anime about a bunch of Selectors battling each other via the card game WIXOSS to become the Eternal Girl and have their wish granted, but it looks like from what you guys are saying things will go downhill very fast huh >.>
Art is pleasant. Ruko reminds me of Honoka from Love Live a bit- the side ponytail, the easygoing attitude and general friendliness. But obviously Ruko is ALOT more passive compared to Honoka who is a bit over the top with her enthusiasm levels.
Episode 2
We get glimpses of how twisted this anime can/will get via our favorite Selector, Akira whose instant 180 personality swings are quite disturbing to watch. It's a wonder how she manages to put up the smiley as an idol for so long without messing up and getting everyone to hate her. Villains these days. Anyway Akira totally rekts newbie challenger Hitoe through psychological banter in their card battle and then creepily forces Ruko+Yuzuki to give her their email addresses so she can battle them later.
Meanwhile we get some drama! Through some lack of communication & assumptions (typical) Yuzuki gets jealous when she and Ruko happen upon Kazuki meeting with Momoka and thanks to Ruko suggesting those two were on a date Yuzuki flips out and takes out her anger on Ruko before running away. I HATE petty drama like this.
Lastly the episode ends with the start of a battle between Yuzuki/Akira and Ruko/Hitoe.
Episode 3
The Ruko vs. Hitoe and Yuzuki vs Akira battles serve as a nice foil to each other. While in Ruko's match they are playing as friends and for fun, Yuzuki's match is all about destroying your opponent in your quest to become the Eternal Girl, and it's clear from here on out that there won't be any friendly battles like Ruko vs. Hitoe anymore; only twisted psychological warfare based on what some of you guys are saying *cough* Kendjin + girls sufferings. I'm not looking forward to it
:P
Congratulations to Hitoe for making a friend btw- that was her wish if she were to become Eternal Girl~ Oh and Ruko's LRIG, Tama, evolves after their battle!!! This is Yugimon!@# Yuzuki, as expected, loses to Akira.
Drama b/w Yuzuki, Kazuki and Ruko from Episode 2 is resolved. Kazuki was meeting with Momoko to obtain a card to bolster Yuzuki's deck. Next time no assumptions pls.
Akira shows off more of her psycho-ness by raging at her LRIG about why she isn't gaining any progress despite having beaten both Hitoe and Yuzuki. Even threatens to tear the card. Apparently Akira's wish has to do with another idol, Iona. Jealousy?
~~~
Overall I'm pretty 'meh' about this show so far. The psychological torment Akira provided against Hitoe and Yuzuki was really lackluster and the card game WIXOSS isn't very interesting (and there's still so much to learn about it. Yuck.)

Ruko's "I don't have a wish so I'll just lose to help my friends!" attitude is very irksome as well. Hope she gets over it soon and starts whoopin' some ass.

Episode 4

We start the episode with some prophecy about a black pillar causing the city to disappear. So it looks like some deep shit is going to occur later~

Yuzuki apologies for her temper tantrum in Episode 2 against Ruko (finally). Ruko also catches on that Yuzuki is infatuated with her brother Kazuki.

Ruko x Yuzuki x Hitoe play some unofficial WIXOSS to bond. I have a feeling this will be the last lighthearted moment we get in this show, especially if Kendjin dropped this by Episode 7 >.> The other LRIGs hint at some unknown relation b/w Ruko and her LRIG Tama. Hm.

Akira makes her move to battle Ruko by sending a small platoon of fangirls to apprehend Ruko. Yuzuki helps Ruko make a run for it, but eventually Ruko is captured and hauled off to Akira who (serves them right) quickly denounces the fangirls and kicks them out. Unfortunately Akira has idol duties and so she couldn't battle Ruko. Ruko then meets Iona who gives her the death look. A Selector without a wish...? Blasphemy!

~~~
Still feel "meh" about this show. The card battle system doesn't interest me, the characters don't interest me (Ruko's "I love this game but i have no wish so I'll lose for my friends" lost big points for me, Yuzuki lost points for her little drama stunt in Episode 2, Hitoe's... okay but it doesn't look like she has much to offer (typical side support character). And Akari's a psycho so that's self explanatory.
So far the only taste of psychological we got was Akira using Hitoe & Yuzuki's wishes against them but it felt so damn lame how she got them to completely BSOD over that. The upcoming battle b/w Ruko & Akira... we all know what will happen- Ruko will be immune to Akira's psychological warfare and have an "awakening" moment where she becomes badass. If not, oh well  :P
Will watch 5 ~ 8 tomorrow.
Season 2 episodes 1 and 2
Wow Akira is STILL a major stock up bitch. Holy crap.
Still more of the same so far, i'm glad to see that Chiyori is getting a proper role though
I wonder if Ruko will really make her wish come true. Seems unlikely. I'm kind of tired of seeing her cry though...
Watched up to episode 7 of season 2
I'm a little disappointed. Everything in s2 feels incredibly predictable.
But most importantly, the villains and the story behind them was just meh. "Look at me, i like hurting things, am i like super evil now? Hurrdurr"
And what i said at the end of season 1 is even more evident in season 2, Ulith was much more of a major bitch than Akira, Akira just has psychological dependencies. Though i don't excuse her retarded behavior, but she's definitely not as scummy as Ulith.
Anyway, the plot of s2 feels very.. meh.
The entire backstory to the LRIG and stuff is just so lackluster and predictable.
And boy oh boy, Mayu is behind all the shit. Who would have thought *sarcasm*
But enough negativity.
Things i liked were Ruko's character finally getting in shape and properly having battles.
Iona and Ru make a great team imo.
Chiyori needs to be on the spotlight more often, she's hilarious.
The rest of the characters are still the same as in s1, except Yuzuki is not much of a favorite anymore since she barely has any focus now.
Well, it's a little underwhelming, but i'm not bored of watching it or anything, though the 8/10 might waver to a 7
I also watched the first 4 Episodes of "Selector something and so one" ... Well, I was not bored of it and kind of enjoyed it. There is a plot and some cute characters so it's not to bad :D ... But there are also things which are bothering me a little (mostly about the game itself), but maybe I shouldn't think about that.
Actually I think I will rate with 7 or 6 at the end (which is not so bad like it sounds after I re-rated my whole list)... But it's to soon for it now, maybe I'll be really surprised by it.
Episode 5
We finally learn what happens if a Selector loses 3x in a row- their wish becomes corrupted and impossible to obtain. In Hitoe's case, her wish was to have friends and so she lost all of her friends (Ruko + Yuzuki) + memories of them as well as the ability to make new friends
Meanwhile Yuzuki has more needless drama by distancing herself from her brother Kazuki and so he's going to hang out with other people and cause more needless drama zzz
Lastly Akira finally sets up a battle against Ruko, as I said earlier I bet she'll just get whooped no problem~
Finished season 2
Well, that endin was totally within expectations.
A little underwhelming but at the same time I can't really see any other possible resolution so I'm happy it ended the way it did.
However the second part as a whole had a lot of moments that felt a bit annoying, the sadness was just dragged out at this point, the girls cried over anything and everything, I felt like that was a bit overkill.
I also felt underwhelmed by the predictability of season 2, though it's probably because season 1 already made all the big reveals so when you watch season 2 everything just kind of falls into place for you.
But there were more things that bugged me.
Ulith was a really shitty villain with no character, she just liked to be evil, kind of disappointing, I prefer villains with more substance than that.
Yuki and Tama fusing in the end was kind of eh, it sort of defeated the initial purpose in my opinion (Ru wanting Tama to be with her IRL), they should have been separate, I think Yuki's character deserved her own body, not be fused into Tama.
Yuki was also a really great character, I enjoyed seeing her more than Tama.
Mayu was so-so, I kind of understand where she was coming from but I feel like the way she handled things was just illogical. The whole show was basically Mayu being upset at everyone outside because she couldn't go outside.
I guess you can sum up wixoss as the anime about this girl who can't pass away and makes others suffer in the process with a card game that has no clear defined rules.
Would I say this really is a psychological anime that dwelves into the human mind and its issues, not too much, in the end it was just girls suffering because of this really crappy game system,
Aki-lovely~
Rather than development, she sort of breaks down more and more with time, but unlike all other characters, she's the one that caused the most impact while doing so in my opinon. She's also the only character that was fully developed, her reasonings, her past, her present, her personality, everything was pretty solid with Akira, including her destruction.
What was just, fascinating~
And honestly I thought she was cute, even with the scar.
I guess you'll see for yourself.
Note I'm putting my comments about each episode in spoiler tags to prevent accidentally causing a spoiler.
Death Parade Episode 3;
This goes to show that not all the episodes are going to immediately go for dark and depressing. I rather liked this episode in its entirety and more than just how much I enjoyed the two people pitted 'against' each other I also rather enjoyed the little snippets of character development for the main characters as well. The moments in which Decim jokes or is given more humanistic characteristics really makes the character more likable. I also believe I've pinpointed where some of these names come Roman/Greek mythology.
Nona is the name for the fate (parcae for the romans) who spun the thread of life from her distaff onto her spindle
Decima/decuma was the name for the fate that measured the thread of life with her rod
Quindecim means 15 and the floor they are on is the 15th floor which is also significant for being where the fates live (if I remember correctly).
it will be interesting if this actually turns out to be relevant somehow..one of the writers is probably a mythology fan
Selector Episode 1+2
Honestly something about this show bugs me. I'm not overly impressed after the first episode and I feel as if it is trying too hard (and this is just in the first 2 episodes). I'll continue watching it of course but my initial reaction is boredom so far.
I also have to say spoiler tags would have been nice because I've been spoiled for this show almost as much as I was when I initially watched madoka magica (which I also didn't care for) and I am not completely sure I'm capable of watching it properly with spoiler knowledge in my head. Who knows maybe it'll get more interesting as I continue it currently though I'm unimpressed and uninterested.
I just finished episode 7
Stray Cat is gonna hate me for this
:P... but
It's not as good as I thought it'd be. It's okay, but I liked Madoka Magica way more, and I keep comparing it to other anime while I watch it like Mai-Hime, Angelic Layer, and Yu-gi-oh.. which I also think were better in how they handled battles/tragedy.
I was excited going into the first episode to see card battles, thinking they'd be really interesting to watch... but now I'm on ep7 and the battles have been boring to me. I think because it's all flash and no suspense. You don't even get to understand how the game works, the type of cards and what they do, and it feels random.. like, neat flash fighting, and then Boom! someone suddenly wins/loses. At least in Yu-gi-oh, there was suspense based on life points or w/e.
It's kind of predictable.. Every battle so far, I was able to tell who was going to win before they even started. I wasn't really surprised about what happened to Hitoe either, since they hinted at it with Midoriko's talk.. but also because I knew it was going to be dark. And I haven't cried yet.
The only character I like so far is Yuzuki.  I kind of think Ruko & Tama are annoying.
What I'm interested in is finding out is Why the LRIGs exist.. what's their purpose, and why do they keep secrets such as the consequences for being defeated 3times.  Is it because they also have something more important they need to fulfill?
It's good enough I'll try to finish it though, but so far those are my thoughts on it.
The third episode of Death Parade was ok.
I went expecting a dark character interaction like the first episode but what I got was totally different. Though going for a positive side isn't bad, I do think that Death Parade executes those dark situations much better.
Selector Infected episode 1, 2 & 3
The art style fits the atmosphere perfectly and the animation is also decent.
The psychological stuff blends into the anime and doesn't feel forced.
All the characters are pretty interesting. It's good to see that all the characters have proper personalities, though it does feel that Akira everyone goes into hyper-mode during the battles.
I think there was plenty of hints that Tama is a battle-crazed cute girl. She has already said that she wants to win, we have yet to see how far she is willing to go to win.
I'm not too interested in card games/battles so I didn't pay much attention to those parts as even the 'proper' card games hardly ever make sense to me.
Lastly I have a hunch that the apartment building that was shown in the first episode will become pretty important later on.
