NaMei Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 To begin with I have not done any form of Japanese studying, my knowledge comes solely from anime. As I post this thread, I have finished my first 2 eroge ever. I got interested in eroge, but did not find any translated games that clicked with me, so I searched for a way to play untranslated games and I found text hooker. What I did was use Mecab and TA to change the text into romaji so I can read it. Surprisingly I could understand the majority of it. At the beginning I had to check the translation of words somewhat frequently, but now not nearly as often, a lot of kanji comes up very frequently so its easy to memorize them. I know you're gonna say, this method is not good, but somehow it worked for me, I did not experience any problems such as not being able to follow the story. Because I'm completely new to this, I picked games straight from Getchu's rankings , the first 2 I played were Hatsuyuki Sakura and Konosora. There weren't anything particularly difficult to understand so that may be the reason why it went smoothly. Quote
Zalor Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Just a question. How strong is your knowledge of Japanese grammar? My understanding is that jumping right into untranslated visual novels can actually be quite effective at learning Japanese so long as you know the grammar. Quote
