XReaper Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 This isn't about removing H-scenes from VN's though, just about adding an option to skip them for audiences that dislike them. trust me i know what that means, but adding such a shameful option is like a sakrileg itself, towards the allmighty ero goddess who gave us her blessings in form of heavily moaning waifus...you cant be serious, think about future generations!beware of those who engage in denial of kawaiiism! okok Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 There are some vns that I would use this feature in. Quote
kratoscar2008 Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 It wouldnt work considering the extras will be missing if you skip H and then only thing resembling a challenge in VNs is getting all the CGs, people are into achievements wich its the VNs equivalent of filling the "museum" so you still get an incomplete experience. Besides H is the only reason VNs are still alive so why cater to those that would let the medium die if it depended on them? Quote

kratoscar2008 Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Again? Basically the gallery would be empty because you toggled off H wich means you will have an incomplete game forever because you cant play the H part. The last means that having a feature that would remove the very reason the medium matters to many people is pointless. Quote

But I can't understand the fact that you don't even want to let people have a choice. Not like having that feature will harm you in any possible way, right? Quote
kratoscar2008 Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 There is a choice: all ages and porn version. And im not agaisnt it im just saying it would be troublesome and that it may not work enough for devs to care about it. Quote
zoom909 Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Implementing a toggle may take some work. And due to reasons which sanahtlig stated, both porn and non-porn in the same package is probably not such a great idea. Removing H-scenes takes almost no work. Creating a non-H patch was trivial in terms of implementation. It literally took minutes. So, I guess separate H and non-H versions probably are the best after all. (On the lighter side, here in the U.S. we do this stuff to the max anyway. full fat, 2%, 1%, nonfat versions of milk. Cheerios with umpteen different flavors. Sweet and salted butter. Caffeinated and non-caffeinated drinks. Diet foods for people who are watching their weight. So logically, non-H versions for people who are watching their H intake. ) Quote

What happens to the VNs that actually have some plot/character development in the H though? It's easy to just remove it all, but isn't that like willingly creating plot holes or inconsistencies? It might require some rewriting, and I doubt anyone would be willing to go throug that, except maybe if the all-ages version would go out on new platforms, e.g. consoles. Quote

kyrt Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 I was originally completely unopposed to this idea of toggle for h-content (an option to choose even though some h-content does have plot relevance) however from a business standpoint this is counter-productive and unnecessary. The companies that license visual novels get nothing by including this option because they still have to get the games to go through rating process. There is no reason for a company to release it included to try and get people uninterested in the h-content to play the all ages version because having the h-content as an option in game automatically makes it more difficult to sell since it will get an Adult rating. Having two separate versions of the game means they can sell the all ages (mature and under) versions in stores or on websites not associated with pron and thus increase the potential players. By including the option in game they wouldn't be able to sell two separate copies (or at least they have no reason to do the extra work because they can still only sell to one group of customers). I forgot about this topic. My opinion has changed as well along similar lines: ratings and legal issues would be a nightmare to navigate. For a doujin/fan product? Sure. But if you're going to market and license the game, it would save them a world of headache to split it into two SKUs. Quote
