So mad that I missed this bundle even though I think I already had half of the games in it. In fact I've bought LLtQ twice now

I wouldn't take steam tags very seriously tbh, or ever expect them to be fixed either lol.

You know just how many games are tagged as an rpg nowadays, yet have absolutely no rpg mechanics? a ton. -_-

Or games tagged with 'female protagonist' you know that has so much to do with the genre or mechanics T-T

I actually have a friend who plays League of Legends with me and unless I send her a champion with RP and force her to play them for me she will only play cute female characters. She will only play games where she can be cute female characters. Pretty sure that she considers it a genre all on it's own and that it is the most relevant tag for her.

Also note that Huniepop and Sakura Spirit are tagged 'nudity' obviously some people search for these things in a game.

Call me crazy, but I actually don't mind that one. For example, in Mass Effect - femshep is a million times better actor then manshep. So I've been interested in female protags ever since.

it can be relevent - if there is an actual story anyway - if not, then yeah it is kinda pointless. (though I admit I'm the sort to create a cute female character in all my games - hey it's not representing ME, it's a character in a story. :P )

heh, I seemed to have derailed the thread abit - sorry about that. :) It hurts my Vn fanboy pride to see such titles listed as  "top 10 Visual Novels". sigh... oh well, good stuff is on the horizon!

Agarest actually got deleted from vndb with the reason cited "Not a VN"

Well my point is that defining what is or not a VN is a blurry line, there is no objective way to clasify a VN since the creation of VNs with gameplay elements.

By the definition of ROLE every game is a ROLE PLAYING GAME. I consider RPGs only those games that allows me the player a role in the game world (Like say SMT games to me are RPGs while i dont consider Tales one) so by my definition japanese rarely make RPGs. Thats how useless tags and subjective definitions are in general.

That's when you find a friend to buy it for you and pay them back in money and girl scout cookies. Paste pictures of the cats on the cookie boxes based on their flavors, okay? Who needs a credit card when you have cookie boxes with catgirks to bribe friends with?

That only works if you know someone who has a credit card.

I would say it depends on how much time you spend on the gemplay and how much on the dialogues. In my opinion Agarest definitely isn't a VN.

I bought Planetarian in october, but wasn't in the mood to read it yet. Well, Key got my money and that was the point of the purchase.

I just use my debit card honestly. I'm just saying if Texas doesn't have a friend with willingness to buy fluffy catgirl porn they need to rethink their life decisions ;(

My friends wouldn't buy me a one dollar stripe of bubblegum if I gave them ten dollars for it. They are dicks.

Seriously though, barely anyone in germany has a credit card. You don't need them for national affairs, so nobody bothers to get one. Especially since paypal became a thing.

You can use a debut card if you don't have a credit card though, can't you? I just use my checking account card whenever I have to use a "credit card"

EDIT: Think it's just for the U.s. tbh. Which is a shame becuase that would make life a ton easier for people.

But at the same time, it is a good age-gate for businesses, to cover their asses from accidently sellnig to minors etc.

That's really dumb.

The story and dialog alone easily take up 40 hours of in-game time, and it's all presented in a VN format, non-linear choices and all.

I don't see the reasoning behind not labeling it as a VN; especially when there are other SRPGs labeled as such on VNDB.

That said, there's a looooooooot of trash with the VN tag on Steam.

It's no wonder why newly released games with this tag explode with trolls in the community hubs.

I'd say that the lack of quality VN releases on Steam; the biggest mainstream gaming market on PC, negatively affects how casual gamers view them.

Worst case scenario; a great VN finally gets localized and released on Steam, but is met with the same misinformed backlash and trolling.

Hard to say why, it all depends on the person POV. Personally I don't consider ace attorney or corpse party vns but they are listed as such

I've never actually played it I've just seen Steam's screenshots for it.

As for the Steam tag, that's something we can only hope to change in the future. I'm hoping that major translation companies decide to focus on Steam releases a bit more this year to help round out the tag.

VNDB are really inconsistent with their definitions, and part of the problem is the actual definition they use. The other part of the problem is their habit of allowing games into the database not because they conform to the definition but because a staff member thinks it should be there. What you end up with is a mess, and continuous debates about what should or shouldn't be included.

In their FAQ VNDB says Ace Attorney is not a VN, but removing it from the database will cause more problems than keeping it will .....
