Lexyvil Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I am currently learning Japanese (Beginner courses), and I started learning a bit of the first grade Kanjis. With so many VNs out there, can someone recommend me one that is both an easy/moderate read in Japanese (in terms of reading difficulty) and still quite interesting in terms of story? I'm into anything related to science fiction, mystery, dramatic sequences/drama, horror, suspense. I'm hoping to benefit from what any VN can offer when it comes to learning Japanese on the side with my courses. All the Visual Novels I've been playing beforehand had English texts. Quote
Funyarinpa Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I'd say that since they include a lot of terminology, fantasy/sci-fi and such would be too difficult for a beginner. Think of a person learning basic English trying to read Lord Of The Rings. Paging Clephas. Quote
Lexyvil Posted March 11, 2015 Author Posted March 11, 2015 I'd say that since they include a lot of terminology, fantasy/sci-fi and such would be too difficult for a beginner. Think of a person learning basic English trying to read Lord Of The Rings. Paging Clephas. Good point, I guess anything that contains simple conversations between a few individuals would probably work, regardless of how the story goes would probably do~ Quote

LinovaA Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I recommend Akatsuki no Goei. You don't understand how much you need Asagiri Kaito in your life. xD Mind you, I don't know exactly where you are in your learning, so best to check the lists provided above as well~ Vokoca 1 Quote
XReaper Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 when i started learning jp i first tried playing some untranslated games like atelier, tales of ...& such stuff, anything with not so much text in it is fine. Quote
Deep Blue Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I'm reading StarTRain and seems easy enough, I'm at a very low level too Quote
Cyrillej1 Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 You could try what I'm reading right now 夏空カナタ (Natsuzora Kanata)...it looks even easier than StarTrain. Someone recommended it to me as a beginner level VN to practice reading on. It's easy^^ but the story seems very simple as well so far... summer romance kind (3 female routes). The author uses the same vocabulary and way of writing over and over a lot, so it's nice practice and memorization from seeing it constantly. Deep Blue and Zalor 2 Quote
Clephas Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 If you want fantasy that is doable or a beginner, I'd suggest Draculius, first and foremost. If you can't handle Draculius, you should probably stick to charage until you can. Quote
Snowtsuku Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I remember Clephas making a list. I thought I bookmarked it but it seems that I did not : ( Quote
XReaper Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 go for "Hana no No ni Saku Utakata no" or maybee "Concerto note" Quote
sanahtlig Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Lolicon VNs typically have low reading levels. Try this one: Please teach me ABCs Quote
