simon4811 Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 When you guys play VN's, do you usually let the voices play out even when you read faster than their voices play? I usually tend to just hit enter the moment I finish reading the text, regardless of whether the voices has finished playing. I'm pretty sure most people would even skip the moaning sounds during the H-Scenes completely. So what are your thoughts and tendencies? Quote
Nosebleed Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I also tend to skip the voices once I finish reading the text. Some characters seem to speak slowly for no reason and it feels like a drag to let them finish talking. Unless I really like hearing the character speaking or if the scene is really important, I almost always skip spoken lines. In h-scenes I usually let them finish whatever they're saying. Because, you know, science. simon4811 1 Quote

Agreed completely though since I started replaying Danganronpa this Tuesday, I've let almost all voice acting go rampant, but maybe that is because it is so good (and the class trials are all VERY important) Quote
Yuuko Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I skip the voices in English VNs but if I'm reading in Japanese then I let the voices play out even before I even start reading the sentence Quote
Tesla Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 It really depends if I can immerse myself enough to think of it as an anime playing in my head or if the voices aren't annoying. If someone has a voice I can't stand then they get skipped through after reading the text. Quote
Cyrillej1 Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 If I read it in English, I just skip the voice once I finish reading it. It feels like a drag, to wait on it since I'd read it way faster. If I'm reading it in Japanese, I always let the voice finish, and mostly try following along. For H-scenes, it depends.. Well, there are also times I'll let a VN go into Auto mode, while I read it in English... almost like watching an anime with subtitles.. I do that, if I feel it's engaging enough or in the mood to be patient. Quote

I'm pretty sure most people would even skip the moaning sounds during the H-Scenes completely. So what are your thoughts and tendencies? I let the voices play out before clicking next - if you have even a remote understanding of the language, you can sometimes catch alot of meaning from the intonation of their voices. It adds to their depth and personality imo. Random example, depending on how a character asks "neh?", it can range from funny all the way to completely insane. Something text can't really relay well. As for Hscenes, It depends on the VN tbh - some are worth listening/reading - and others I will ctrl-skip asap. Quote
TexasDice Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 That solely depends on whether or not I enjoy the overall scene in question. Quote
suikashoujo Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 If I listened to every single line in a VN, I would never finish anything. So I skip everything except important lines where I think listening to the voices would give the scene more impact (examples: confessions of love or death scenes) Quote
Heizei_koukousei Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I have since given up on listening to the audio in VNs so that I can focus on reading the story. It also allows me to get through a title much faster. I know I am potentially missing some great soundtracks, but hearing voices doesn't really improve my experience since I don't know Japanese. But this is coming from someone who read manga long before they ever watch anime so my opinion is rather biased Quote
Zantax Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Of course I don't skip voices. If one doesn't care about voices then why don't just read a book? Well, I know I'm exaggerating because VNs have other things that book doesn't but when I don't just try to fly to the end to have scene / route done, I definitely listen voices (and often replay them ). gustave154 Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Only skip if i am running out of time. But i try my best to hear all the voices. Quote
Yuri Hunter Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I usually don't skip if is a girl, but if is a voice of a guy who I don't like, I do. Quote
Eclipsed Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Skip voices as soon as I'm done reading. Which is why I treasure the 'voice playback continues after click' though; voice cutting off sux. ~~ The only VN where I listened to every voiced dialogue was Neko Para Yeah Way 1 Quote
sub-zer0 Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I usually enjoy the voices , because that is a huge part of what VNs are, I do skip some H scenes though , I usually skip most H scenes, sometimes I read some parts of it just to see whats going on , but I skip during H all the time. when I feel like Im kind of dragging this out, I start flipping as soon as I finish the text, that doesn't happy very often, unless it is a really long arc or one really long explanation. Quote
Mr Poltroon Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I will listen to the voices unless I wanna finish fast. The more immersed I am the less likely it is I may cut off a voice. Quote
AlexZandria Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Depends on my mood if I think the voices are attractive how long they take and what language they are voiced in Quote
Life Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I almost always just continue after I finish the text... Unless for some reason the voices are just funny to listen to and sometimes during powerful scenes. Quote
B0X0R Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I always let the voices finish up. I especially like it when they tell you when the next frame includes voice acting. Quote
Andreas Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I always let the voices finish. Text in itself can't convey the mood and personalities of the characters good enough IMO. Suzu Fanatic 1 Quote
Deep Blue Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Most of the time I like to hear them because I enjoy them and they are more accurate than the translation itself. Quote
TheFantasm Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Unless it's a voice I absolutely hate, I'll let them play. Quote

Turnip Sensei Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 I usually skip the voices, except when they are really good or when I'm too lazy to click and play on auto. Also if there is some really awesome sounding or silly line, I will listen to it a few times. Quote
traveler101 Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 I try to control myself into listining all the voice acting , but sometimes i just cant seem to wait for them to finish. Even more in those parts that arent relevent to the story.(which is why i am also grateful for the voice playback after click) It's not like i dont like the voice acting , because i do alot but sometime the just drag to much Funny because i thought i was the wierd one for not waiting for the voices, Auto also seems to help not rushing too much Quote
