Hello everyone, I have had some interest in visual novels and light novels for quite some time, but because of how confusing they all seemed and not knowing how to get access to any (Following the Fate/stay nigh series was a nightmare) I was kind of put off. However i found myself loving playthroughs and walkthroughs of visual novels on Youtube, primarily Katawara shojou (Sorry is I spelled it wrong) and I just got so addicted, I then got into an anime call Higarashi no naku koro ni and loved it, i watched it a few years ago and never knew it was tied to a series called Umineko which was very popular among other forums I visited, especially Beatrice. As a result I got even more curious. The problem still remained, I have no idea where to even start, nor did I have anyone to discuss these with, I always felt out of the loop when it came to debates and discussions involving these characters. However, thanks to a friend by the name of Featherine from the Naruto forums, I was introduced here. This place seems very lively and I am a bit nervous about entering but I'm sure I will be caught up in due time. I hope you all are patient as I will no doubt ask very obvious and silly questions that are common place here. I look forward to meeting you all. As you can tell i am chatty, and a fan of Jojo's bizarre adventure(And Supergals...and Sailor Moon XD). I really want to get into Umineko and katawara shojou.

Fate is one of the best VNs, you will find someone to discuss about it without problem,

and Kata Shoujo is one of the visual novel that is more advisable for those just starting.

if i may give some reccomendations,

 

Fate/stay night is a must play. It is nothing like the anime thing that carries its name. (well we do now in the unlimited blade works adaption)

And we just have a new patch that has translated the realta nua version of the game. (wich is an all ages game so it does away with the H stuff and replaces it by something else)

Tsukihime Another must play, and no this one does not have a anime adaption.

Muv Luv series, now Muv Luv extra is not that good and Unlimited is merely good but alternative is definitly a must read and to understand it completely you need to have read these two first.

(I so hope muv luv alternative get's an anime adaption at some point)

3 or so years ago pre-fuwanovel, the visual novel community was known for being kinda hostile. Oh have times changed! :D This is one of the nicest and most welcoming communities I've ever been a part of. Even if you don't read many VNs, I'm sure you can make yourself at home here. 

 

For a beginner I would like to recommend a lovely, short, and free visual novel called Narcissu. You can get this visual novel for free on steam. I suggest reading the original Narcissu before reading the prequal Side 2nd. It should only take like 3 - 4 hours to read Narcissu, but be prepared, it can be kind of depressing.

I recommend Clannad as well !

 

Also Deardrops too if you want something with a happier tone! or Kana: Little Sister if sadness is your cup of tea...

Wow thanks for the recommendations! Yeah I will definitely start on Clannad then Muv Luv. Anyone have links to Umineko? I'm on vacation so I want some ques.
