Well that my be true most of the most as you say, but LN's aren't very appealing to as many people as manga and Anime are.

And to counter what you say, I'll give two example of successful manga adaptations :

Boku wa tomodachi ga sukunai drawn by Itachi, which is as good as the LN if not better because I think manga serves the story more than the LN does.

Toradora, which has a flawless anime and a really good manga too.

Of course I could expand the list.

Maybe these are not a correct representation of the original work, but if they do a better job because the new media support does a better job at making the thing work (drawings, music, etc.) then I don't care if the original isn't the same.

But as you say, some are complete failures. In my opinion, often an anime can do what a LN does better in most ways.

So there are three reasons explaining why an adaptation can be bad :

- The LN is bad

- The animation studio doesn't give a shit, the anime is used just as a promotion

- The story isn't adaptated to anime format.

In my opinion, it's 40/40/20.

Maefdom as I said before I'm not saying that every adaptation is bad, that's why expanding your list of successful adaptations would be missing the point(although having discussions on that is also interesting as a well).

My point is that some Manga can't even be called adaptations in a sense. For example(on top of my head), Cross x Regalia and Kenshin no Keishousha were two such adaptations. Where they barely scratched the surface on either's plot and even when they somewhat manage to do that the pacing is nonexistent. On top of that the serialization was monthly, which just wears away any potential readers of the LN in case that the story hooked them enough to jump over mediums.

One could argue that they were axed because of lack of popularity rather than being a blatant advertisement attempt. However this is occurring often enough to make me believe the latter situation rather than the former.

In conclusions, I'm focusing on the bad adaptations and I want opinions on them, as to why they happen and if they make any sense at all(although I know that they do, somewhat, from a business standpoint).

Well i honestly don't think there's much to say on the bad adaptations other than "the staff probably didn't know what the fuck they were doing". I don't think you'll find a really deep meaning behind it.

Business wise, I do believe it gives sufficient hype and promotional. However, from our (the costumers) perspective, it makes the people who looked forward to them usually lose hope or the like in the LN which complete destroys its original purpose. Something like that
