mitchhamilton Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Yeah, so i didnt know the second ova for aot entitled "No Regrets" aired several weeks ago. otherwise i wouldve done this sooner. spoilers up ahead for those who havent watched it. if you havent and youre a fan of Attack on Titan (Who isnt) then you should go watch it. its about how levi joined the survey corps. also i havent read any of the Attack on Titan manga so keep whatever happens in that to yourselves, please. first episode was pretty interesting. gave a little more in depth look on aot's society. a bunch of people live underground which is where levi and his friends live. its nice to see erwin smith in action, even if its brief. i always knew ewrin had some skills. he can match or even beat levi with the 3d gear. so anyway's levi and friends are given a task to steal something for some kind of noble man and in exchange they can legally have citizenship on the surface. they accept and attract the attention of erwin and are captured and forced to join the survey corps. before the second episode aired i had a feeling something terrible was gonna happen to his friends. it was nothing more than a suspicion and i was hoping i was wrong. maybe they just quit the survey corps after a few expeditions. but i got a big hint of what happens to them thanks to a comment on an attack on titan video on youtube. i forgot the users name so im going to call him cunt. i watched this video after i already saw the no regrets first ova and was waiting for the second to come out. i cant remember what exact episode i was watching but it was the episode (SPOILERS FOR THE ATTACK ON TITAN MAIN SHOW) eren is fighting the female titan. you know? the one where his squad died. anyway's theres a scene where levi is just flying around with his dead comrades all around him and theres a point where he stares at petra's body. cant really tell what hes thinking but i like to think that the fact that hes stopping to stare at all shows that he cared about her. i guess it was the scene the levi was flying over his comrades is what inspired cunt to right his comment. which was something along the lines of "poor levi. how many times is he going to lose people who are important to him?" theres only one backstory to levi that i know of from the manga and the ova's. so it doesnt take a genuis to know what he was talking about. so anyways, the second ova. levi of course losses them and is upset, obviously. then in a pretty emotional scene he faces the titan that killed them and doesnt kill the titan right away but instead shreds it into as many pieces as possible. pretty strong stuff if you ask me. also shows why levi follows erwin and shows what levi sees in erwin which is kind of how i see him. a man who has an ideal for humanity and knows hes the only one to make the toughdecisions in order to reach that ideal. even if it means the whole world hates him, he'll reach it for humanity. pretty good stuff. its nice to see some backstory to levi. its also nice to know what he really meant when he said to Eren "Do what you want. Whether or not its the right thing to do, i dont know. i never know." or something like that. Quote
Nosebleed Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 The OVAs were pretty nice, it's always good to see the backstory of one of the best characters in Shingeki no Kyojin which should have been the main character from the get go instead of that Eren thing. I had already read the manga of Levi's backstory so I didn't care much for seeing it again, but the OVAs were decent adaptations although they don't follow the manga as closely and just adapt the main events. If you haven't already, I really suggest you read the manga version of it which is pretty detailed. Also the title should be "a choice with no regrets", but f*ck translating titles properly. Quote
mitchhamilton Posted April 22, 2015 Author Posted April 22, 2015 nah. levi is a good support character to have. if he was the main character he would look at everything with contempt, but eren looks toward everything from a very human point of view. he believes humanity should work together for a common goal and believes that anyone who doesnt is just comfortable with taking the easy way, until it comes crashing down on them. naive? yes. but again it makes him the most human of them. but anyways i dont read the manga just cause i dont think it could capture the same experience as the anime did. can the manga build more character and story? yes, but again i just dont think it could capture great moments like eren carrying that boulder to the wall. where the music kicks in and hes doing an inner monologue about fighting while his comrades are all dying around him, but he continues on for the future of humanity. i was confused as to whether or not it was "A choice with No Regrets" or "No Regrets" i just chose no regrets. now i regret it, ironically.
