The conversation might have something to do with how gender is viewed as a whole in society.

...Or something.  Whenever the subject comes up there's always a ton of landmines to weave around else you end up saying something you regret ;-;

Personally though, we have to look at how gender effects our outlook on someone, in addition to gender specific aspects such as romance.  The internet as a whole has a lot to do with it as well, both in terms of anonymity and the standard experience of the introverts who commonly use the internet.  It's a subject that spreads about the internet as opposed to just something like Fuwanovel, and I can't even begin to figure out how to express it without turning it into a personal parable.

Sadly though, I'm sleepy and my ability to express my reasoning in a way I'm comfortable with is low at the moment.

the members who hide their genders are obviously potatoes and they're trying to hide their plans of world....or more like fuwa(?) domination.

it's a conspiracy i tell you!

Tbh i really dont care if u r male or female, It wont change me what i see u. Ofc if u r female maybe i will less hentai but i will still be hentai but with some lining ofc. I got irl male n female friends and i enjoy both of them so  dont know why sometime male pretend to be female and vice versa.

And fyi i`m not  男の子 but 男の娘  :holo:

I think sometimes girls might hide their gender just because:

- If many more guys - to not stand out, it's easier to let people assume you're male too to fit in.

(Don't want to be treated any different just because of gender, or to prevent unwanted attention).

- Eroge/hentai/porn stuff & talks - it can be embarrassing to participate in when people know you're female.

(Depends how open you want to be, and how you want to be perceived).

- The person wants to remain anonymous and not have it tied back to their real identity.

(Simply, a private personality).

- It's the internet, people may just want to experiment with changing genders with a simple click.

(Trolling, entertainment. Other reasons could be, they want to experience what it could be like being viewed as a different gender, or just more comfortable/identify oneself as the gender they choose to be viewed as).

- Some people create separate identities on the internet, kind of like role-playing?

(Creating a new character identity, and wanting to act & appear in character)

- Just don't care or bother to change it accurately.

Those might be some reasons why that I could think of. Just guessing~

If you want an honest answer then I would say that I think genders are stupid. Who gives a hell what someone's gender is? Seriously I take people as people I don't worry about no sticking genders.

I just don't think it's that significant, in general. Unless you want to point out differences in experiences in relation to gender difference as well. That may be true, but some people just aren't that comfortable in giving away their genders. Of course, I'm not saying that you need to be a certain gender to be uncomfortable doing so. It's too much of a generalization if we put it that way. Let's just say that some people view it as 'too personal'.

Or they just all go with 'all people in the internet are men'.

...By the way, I'm a princess.

I don't really understand why people hide their gender on the internet. But, then again, I was once told that I have the soul of a middle aged man trying to get his daughter to call him "Onii-chan" instead of daddy.

I say it's just a bad habit. One that has survived for far too long.
Outside of forums tho, there's the social networks and lots of

other places where you certainly cannot hide your gender.

Unless you roleplay/lead a double life/forge your identity, etc.

I've never hidden my gender or tried to pass up as female so..

I can't tell you why some people do it, but I can tell you that

there's most certainly not an innocent reason behind it. (just the

sole action of lying about/concealing your gender, means you

have something to hide.)
