Oh wow, this is downright retarded.

I sure hope this doesn't become a trend where you literally have to switch your whole OS language to play Japanese games. That's very anti consumer friendly in every way of the word.

Thankfully I believe my version of Windows can switch, but I'd have a horrible time navigating through a complete Japanese OS (I'm hoping it won't become a problem once I major in the language lol).

Still though Japan always says the games are meant to be sold in Japan only and this is just one company that's making 100% sure that's applied.

I've kept my system in Japanese locale for months at a time, but having the interface in Japanese is going to be irritating.  I can still navigate frequently-used areas, and I know enough Japanese to puzzle out messages and menus I've seen before, but I can see myself having to switch back and forth between MUIs.  Luckily MUI-switching functionality should be built-in to all versions of Windows 10, so if this becomes a trend at least I won't have to rely on a 3rd party tool which could break my Windows installation.  This problem might end up accelerating my migration to Windows 10.

I would avoid jumping to conclusions like this. All sorts of random unforeseen issues like this can crop up in software development, and I doubt most companies do this intentionally. In this case, it seems less like they are intentionally locking out westerners, and more like they simply never tested it with a non-japanese OS because why would they?

I remember being around Hongfire and the ensuing discussion around the net when it happened, but I didn't know that the controversy actually influenced a change in a business practice. When I think about it, it makes sense though.
