1914: The Great War [End]

Atlantic Ocean, near the Spanish Coast The command ship of the Irish Fleet November 1914 A Formal announcement from the countries of the Holy Alliance:3 points -
Interesting... I'll look into this. For now, I'll organise the events and such. 1 APRIL ??:?? - Nanase and Katarina have made contact. 16 APRIL 15:00 - Arnold enters Computer Laboratory. - The computers run on a closed network. - Memory devices mustn't be more than 8MB. - If Arnold could access the internet, he did not need assistance. - Arnold lacks the expertise to hack a League account, and hacking devices cannot fit in an 8MB FD. - Nanase arrives home, and plays League at some point. - Nanase and her father are indistinguishable in League. - Nanase did not knowingly have a role in the hacking. - Nanase was not logged on to any messaging system other than League. 16:00 - Katarina is at a vegetarian campaign. The campaign has nothing to do with the crime. 16:30 - RoTaRy finishes commission. - Identity of the commissioner is not relevant to the case. - RoTaRy was too tired to do any complex programming. - If RoTaRy knew the password before this time, then it did not include complex programming. He most likely took a nap. 17:00 - Adam was working. Co-worker messing with laptop over the internet. - Laptop is not logged on with Adam's e-mail. - Laptop has a shared password, different from Adam's e-mail. - Adam's account was compromised. - Hacker was unable to change e-mail password. Couldn't they just use the old 'Forgotten Password' method? 17:30 - Katarina returns from campaign. - Her knowledge outside League is limited. Katarina is the common friend. She has access to both Nanase and the twins. 17:45 - Farken (at this point, it is unknown who played) plays with the compromised account. The twin who played is irrelevant! - Compromised account plays with low latency (Likely from N. America) - IP impossible to trace. - They were matched with the compromised account with a common friend. The Farken brothers' 'common friend' might be the hacker, or know the hacker. 18:00 - Arnold leaves Computer Laboratory. The game must have ended at this point. No more than nine people are related to this crime. Hacking a League account is complex. Two to three people must be involved (or RoTaRy alone). Between 15:00 to 18:00, Adam, Nanase, Adam's wife and a maximum of two more entities knew the password. Entities? Could this possibly include machinery and programs? Anything in violet are merely my speculations and thoughts.2 points

For Love of VNs: For Beginners
nekofuwafuwa reacted to Clephas for a topic
This is a list of good games to begin your journey into playing VNs in Japanese. Inevitably, most of these games will be moege, charage, or nakige. There is little to be done about this, as chuuni, sci-fi, and fantasy-action VNs have linguistic barriers that will be too much for someone still struggling with reading conversational Japanese. In particular, the biggest barrier for someone who is used to dealing with Japanese that is 'spoken', rather than 'written' is the existence of literary Japanese. The turns of phrase, different wording, etc. that an inexperienced reader might run into can either be seen as a learning experience or as pure confusion, depending on your level and state of mind. As such, I am only putting down games that are readable for someone who understands spoken Japanese but is weaker in literary Japanese. I will also put a 'second level' for those who are interested in challenging themselves a little but not too much. This one will be for those who are willing to see if they can handle the easier action scenes, more difficult event descriptions, and the like. First Level: Maji Suki Marginal Skip Suzunone Seven Kamikaze Explorer Tsuisou no Augment (this game is hilarious, and it is not a moege. I recommend this to people who liked the atmosphere of Yume Miru Kusuri) Akabanzu - Real na Sekai de Boku ga Kimi ni Dekiru Koto (this game has only minor scientific terms and jargon, mostly related to AI and MMO's. Since it is distinctly possible you ran into these terms just watching anime, I went ahead and put this up.) Chuning Lover (this game is just generally rofl) Ichiban Janakya Dame Desu Ka (one of the few almost-pure comedy in my personal lineup) Otomimi Infinity Sakura Iro Quartet (this and the game above are for mimikko fetishists) Ryuusei Kiseki (sci-fi moege, fairly easy. Hardest parts are when the protag begins preaching about his hobby) Shiawase Kazoku-bu Sukimazakura to Uso no Machi (surrealist fantasy moege... mildly funny, interesting in general) Toppara - Zashikiwarashi no Hanashi (use this as your crash course in youkai) 12/30/2014 edit Love Revenge Real Imouto ga Iru Ooizumi-kun no Baai 08/15/2016 Edit Sakigake Generation Minamijuujisei Renka Primal Hearts Primal Hearts 2 World Election Koko Kara Natsu no Innocence Second Level: Irotoridori no Sekai (yeah, it is being translated, but it isn't done yet) Konata yori Kanata Made (relatively low-difficulty action/event scenes, as well as being an excellent entry point into the utsuge genre) Tiny Dungeon series (relatively normal conversational and event scenes, and the actions scenes are relatively low-difficulty, if somewhat fast-paced) Draculius (similar to above in the action) Haruka ni Aogi, Uruwashi no (this game is probably one of the top three non-action/sci-fi/fantasy games I've played and it is harder than the games on the first level... but in exchange it is also a lot better, lol) Hyper→Highspeed→Genius (relatively high difficulty to first level, but it is easier than the games I'd prefer to introduce people to, lol) Koisuru Otome to Shugo no Tate - The Code Name is "Shield 9" (fanboys of fantranslations know this as one of the many dead projects) Ore no Tsure wa Hitodenashi Kaminoyu (this one and the one above are your source for non-human love in this stage, lol) Otome ga Tsumugu, Koi no Canvas (higher difficulty than first level primarily due to the art terms) Aete Mushisuru, Kimi to no Mirai Akatsuki no Goei (first one only, later ones are too hard for Second Level) Re: birth Colony Lost Azurite (this, Tiny Dungeon, and Draculius are probably the hardest games on this list) Fake Azure Arcology (direct link to the game above, and ditto) Kimi to Boku to Eden no Ringo Koiiro Soramoyou (famous for certain VN fanboys) Kimi to Boku to no Kishi no HIbi (recent release, fairly easy, good protag) Lunaris Filia (a vampire charage, for those who want some of that) Naka no Hito nado Inai!! Tokyo Hero Project Dracu-riot Sakura Tale Tojita Sekai no Tori Colony (this game is pretty hilarious, especially if you insist on seeing all of the loop ends before getting to the true end) Tsuki ni Yorisou, Otome no Sahou (similar to Koi no Canvas, in that the terms that will give you the most trouble are the technical ones - this time for sewing and clothing design) 12/30/2014 edit Zannen na Oretachi no Seishun Jijou Kimi no Tonari de Koishiteiru Sekai wo Sukuu Dake no Kantan na Shigoto Nanairo Reincarnation (borderline within this if you are familiar with the base concepts of youkai and ghosts as understood by the Japanese) Sakigake Generation Edit: This will be the last in my series of lists. I will edit them with additions occasionally, but I won't be making any new ones. Have fun yall.1 point -
Cocoro@Function! Stream with Mephisto & OriginalRen Official Thread!

Current Game - Cocoro@Function! ココロ@ファンクション ! Current Route - Hayami Asagao Next Stream Date - Postponed Fellow Fuwa members! It is with great pleasure that Mephisto and the OriginalRen are proud to announce that we will be hosting live translation recordings of visual novel fun. Our game of choice will be played in the original Japanese scripts, with Mephisto translating for the whole gang. If you are interested in following us, feel free to check out the rest of this thread as well as videos from our previous recording sessions. With that, I suppose it is only fair to announce the actual game we will be playing. Well, after much discussion on a list of games we owned, we decided on the ever desired Cocoro@Function! Previous Videos - Common Route: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7ivNNDDfsj5UEVQM292dDdyNlk&authuser=0 Hijiri's Route: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7ivNNDDfsj5ZkF3dXZBNnloY1U&authuser=0 Asagao's Route: TBA For those that are not familiar with the visual novel, feel free to check out the opening videos and summary of the game below: Opening #1: Opening #2: Opening #3: Halfway through the 21st century, we are surely approaching something called the “network golden age”. The Multi-purpose communication card “Orca” provides a phone network (that goes without saying), an overwhelming number of apps to use allowing one to shop from their home telephone, and even a way to receive school lessons. Even IDs and the health insurance cards are all incorporated into the Orca card. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that one’s entire life is influenced by this one small card. I, Hayami Taiyou, lives in a city that supports cutting-edge Orca cards, also a student of Makoto Advanced Academy (something like this city has the best ones) Blessed with friends, and although i have no large problems occur in my daily life…… A bug occurred in some students’ Orca card after a sudden automatic update was applied. An unusual app called “Cocoro Function” was installed. And it seems I was one of them, and apparently due to this app, my inner thoughts are revealed to the people around me. “Chairman! Bad News!” “What’s wrong? (But, I would never get tired of groping your bouncing boobs)” “Chairman! You pervert!” You can’t delete the app, but on the other hand you couldn’t live without Orca either. After that, it was impossible to hide my erotic delusions. Furthermore, apparently there are other apps at school that have special features that are also causing problems. The troubles in school are gradually building up. I had to do something, and with that in mind, I gathered a group of people also bothered by this mysterious app, and started up the Cocoro Function Countermeasure Committee (CFC), in order to try to solve the problem. Can everyone else and I retain our peaceful school life!?! Finally, after each recording session, I will post links which will recap the game as we go. These recaps will only cover through the common route of the game. Check these out as well as my YouTube channel (which is posted above) for videos from previous sessions. 1914: The Great War [End]
satoshikyouma reacted to Aniki for a topic
1914: The Great War STORY Prologue: June 1914: July 1914 August 1914 September 1914 INFORMATION How to Play: - You must choose a country, and lead it until it is completely destroyed. You may not switch to a different country while your country still survives. - If your country has been shamefully defeated by a superior nation, you may continue your life and lead the superior nation's army. If two or three nations have divided your country, the country with the most territory captured from your nation is your new nation. - You may attack once every twenty-four hours. - The number of territories you capture is determined by the last digit of your post number. To gain your post number, 'quote' your attack post and switch to coded view (The switch on the top-left corner of the full editor). Added to one-tenth of your total territory count, rounded down. You may only capture a maximum of 12 territories per attack. For Example: Spain wishes to take Portugal for the glory of the king. The last digit of Spain's post was 5, and her total territory was 42. 5 + 42/10 = 5 + 4 = 9 territories captured from Portugal - You may also attack in a very specific way. For Example: Germany attacks Russia in what is now modern-day Poland. The territories captured will be modern Polish land. For Example: Germany attacks Russia's Baltic regions. The territories captured will be modern lands of the Baltic states. For Example: Germany invades France, but crosses Belgium. Germany will first capture Belgium, then move into France. - You may attack by sea, if you have territory in the same sea sector, which are those greyish-blue lines in the ocean. - You can form an alliance/royal marriage/pact/entente with other nations. These can be made public or private. Be wary. - To balance the Russian player, the same attack formula will be used, but the resulting number is divided by 4, rounded down once more. This is due to Russia having a large amount of territory, and the Russian army was one of the worst during WW1 (and even WW2, before Germany angered them too much). - Roleplaying is highly encouraged. It's a tradition practised among the Commission. Current Map: http://i.imgur.com/LPssTf5.png Nations: - A nation may have up to three controllers. They will make individual decisions, but they will operate from the same country. Which means a country with one controller may attack once, two controllers may attack twice, and three controllers may attack thrice. Having multiple controllers will make your expansion faster. - A captured nation must assist the occupier. If your nation has been captured by a stronger nation, you will assist them in their conquest, even if the nation is already full. You will assist the overlord nation until the end of the game. - You cannot liberate captured nations. You cannot return a country to its independent status. - A country may only unite once. You can unite with any nation, which effectively increases commanders and territories. Note that any penalty a country may have will be effectively removed. Even a small nation such as Luxembourg can unite with a massive country such as Russia. - Ceasefires are possible. A ceasefire can be declared in secret, or announced publicly. A temporary ceasefire between two nations gain a 'trust penalty'. If you have attacked a country you had a ceasefire with, your attack will be divided into three. 1914: The Great War [End]
satoshikyouma reacted to Crysis99 for a topic
The Chapel was empty. Perfect. I wouldn't want anyone to see how weak their Tsar was. I was a fearless leader who would so anything to win, at least in their eyes. What was I doing, leading this poor country into a war like this. Not only that, we were losing land, and fast. My best generals and advisors, many killed in action, and one fell by my hand. I knelt before the altar, praying. Praying for the for the lives lost, that they may find peace. Praying for my people that they may lead better lives. Praying, for my sins, the ones I have committed, and those yet to come, that they may be forgiven. Though I know that what waits for me at the end is not salvation, but instead damnation. That much is inevitable. "Bless me father, for I have sinned." The confession chamber was quiet, and the priest that lay behind those blinds strained closer to hear my confession. "Father, I have led men to their deaths, I have lied and mislead people into their own doom. Father, I... I have killed a man by my own hand." It was then the tears started flowing, my conscience could only handle so much after all, and it was best to just let it all out. "Worry not my lost lamb, The Lord will absolve you for your sins, his mercy will save you. For he knows you did it not of your own free will. Rest in peace my lost lamb, all is not lost. Believe in the Lord, and he will deliver. Go now, and do what you must, and remember, God is always with you. As for your contrition you must..." I left the chapel, finally feeling as if a burden has been lifted from my shoulders. For once since I became Tsar, I felt free. The responsibility which once rested on my shoulders, now nothing that God is bearing my burden as well. I headed for the war room, another meeting will once again begin. "My comrades, you who have given much for the country, much for me. Firstly, I would like to thank you for all of your efforts. It is thanks to you all, that we have come this far. To thank you for your effort, I will hint something to you, this war has reached it's turning point, and it will end in blaze of glory." With this, the generals stood up, and gave a standing ovation. All of them, except of course the now deceased Lenin.... Perhaps my guilt hasn't completely gone away yet... The rest of the meeting went with me listening to the planning done by the committee. Now matter how they looked at it, the best course of action was too keep attacking Sweden. This, of course, goes perfectly with Aneki's plans, so I said nothing of it. We also took an important photo, one that raised all of our morale. By the time it ended, I retired into my quarters. “James!” Within seconds of my beckoning, my trusty aide was by my side. “Be sure that Lenin’s family or relatives are well compensated. Make sure that his funeral is grand. Also, to everyone else, he dies in a fierce battle, not for insubordination.” These might not make up for killing him, perhaps nothing ever will, however, it’s always better than nothing. Thank you God, for leading me the right way. I will see to it, that even if I die, Sweden be conquered. They will burn. Before he left, I made one last request. “James, mail this photo to the Generals of Sweden.” I handed him the photo. It was a coloured photo, an expensive one at that. James tried stifle a laugh, before walking away. The photo was of me and my generals, making funny faces. Under that, was scribbled in Russian, what might be the English equivalent of “Fuck You”. I smiled, this was perfect. The conquest of Sweden shall continue.1 point -
The problem with Uchikoshi is that he repeats the same plot devices over and over. Nakazawa always tries to make things fresh. Nakazawa's stories are a lot more condensed and full of complexities and detail. I think they are both good writers. Don't expect amazing twists and turns from I/O, it's just a really detailed and complex story and it really amazing how it takes it all and actually makes sense of it all. So I/O is not full of twists but it's very complex and will make your brain melt. An extremely long epic cyberpunk story.1 point
