My Visual Novel/Dating Sim Reviews
Chronopolis and 3 others reacted to mattroks101 for a topic
Before I go any further, if this is not the right place to post this, or I'm breaking some rules by making this thread, I'd like to apologize in advanced. Hey guys, short time lurker and first time poster. Big fan of the community here and glad that VN fans can have a place to talk about stuff . Anyway a while back I started doing reviews of games, originally I didn't intend for it to be VNs/Dating Sims but as time has gone on I've found myself covering them more and more. I try to do quick, informational but entertaining reviews that give a recommendation as to whether or not you should try/buy the game. Dunno how successful I am though. Without further ado here's a link to one of my favorite reviews Here's a link to a more recent one And here's a link to just the playlist of my VN/Dating Sim reviews. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDnxyteDY65xn5vY3OKXWaQlKFnaQzKIA It should be noted that I've reviewed other types of games, they're just in the main playlist. Anyway I'd appreciate any feedback or suggestions about how I could improve, or games I could cover.4 points -

I was wondering when you were going to join. And since no one said this already: WELCOME TO FUWA! I've personally been following you for a long time. So I'll just ask a couple of things I'm curious about first: 1.Do you only play games on steam? 2.Why do you mostly review very low quality games? You have the potential of becoming a big youtuber if you go for the big stuff. 3 Why are they always bad games?! (I kid, I kid) 4.You don't torrent games, do you? 5.Do you have any interest in trying Japanese made VNs? Since all the ones you've reviewed so far are made in the West. But nevertheless, you are indeed one of the funniest youtubers I follow. Keep up the good work! And I hope you enjoy your stay in this website2 points -

Allow Me To Introduce Myself
SanadaShadow reacted to theboxcarracer for a topic
Hey, everyone. I made an account here some time ago (I actually can't remember when, to be honest) but promptly forgot about it and never posted anything. Upon revisiting these forums, however, I realized that I want to be a part of this community in at least some small way. I thought I'd introduce myself. I've been playing VNs since February of this year. If you count the Ace Attorney series as VNs, then I've been playing since a few years after Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney came out on the DS in America. I guess my love for that series is a small part of what introduced me to the existence of the Visual Novel genre in the first place, though I didn't try one for the longest time. I finally cracked and played one last February. It was (I know it's typical, but hear me out) Katawa Shoujo. I have only played one route of that game, and I will probably never play any of the others. The reason being that the route I played was Hanako's route, and I... happen to be a burn victim, actually. I'm lucky in that my scarring is entirely restricted to my legs, but it's still severe enough that I get weird looks when it's not covered up. I was also recovering from a pretty nasty breakup at the time, so Hanako's route in Katawa Shoujo hit me in just about every emotional weak point I had. I bawled my eyes out at parts of that route. I can't go back to that game because of how hard it hit me. I think it's incredible, and not overrated in the least. After that, I realized that this genre obviously had something to offer, and I've delved in a little deeper. I've since played Ever 17, Shuffle, Hoshizora no Memoria, Shinikiss, G Senjou no Maou, Grisaia no Kajitsu, Fate/Stay Night, Majikoi (well, all of what's translated, at least), and others that I can't seem to remember at the moment. Oh, speaking of remembering, I did just finish Remember 11, which was extremely dissatisfying. I also really love music, and play the guitar. I have a real wanting to learn Japanese, but there are no courses near where I live and I have no idea where to start when it comes to learning online. I also play a number of other genres of games. I play anything from Call of Duty to Tales of Xillia to Rogue's Legacy. I really do like video games. I just finished Dishonored (Games with Gold, am I right?) which was pretty awesome. Anyways, that's me. I hope I can actually be a part of this community!1 point -

She's not deredere. She turns dere at some point, but that's all "classic tsunderes", that's what that means. They go from full hate/disdain, to full love mode. Classic Tsundere is fine. Also, listing any of that as a spoiler is awfully silly so I'd make it a non-spoiler. edit: Ahh, this is bothering me so I'll just edit it myself.1 point

Clephas' VN of the month
Chronopolis reacted to Clephas for a topic
Dekinai Watashi ga Kurikaesu http://vndb.org/v15166 wasn't my first choice for a VN to play for this month. Unfortunately, the mess with Nyaa means I probably won't be able to review the one I most want to for a while. The first three routes of this VN are high-quality drama/charage. This game uses the structure where there is only minimal contact with the other heroines during a heroine's path, and the path tends to be mostly self-contained. Yume's path is pretty good, with a lot of drama toward the end and a rather hilarious ending. Miki's path... feels like a pure love-comedy at times. Airi's path is a straightforward 'do your best so you don't have any regrets' path. I'll be blunt, though... except for Shino, these heroines' paths are short. I was a bit startled at how short, in fact. The fact that they manage to get a decent amount of content into that short path says a lot of good things about the writer and a lot of bad things about the company's willingness to spend for quality. Shino's route is a classic konakana style utsuge route. It is meant to make you cry, and there is no absolute happy ending to make it a nakige. It did make me cry... but if you were to ask me whether I was satisfied, you'd probably get a big no out of me. This path is an obvious reverse of konakana in some senses, with lower-quality writing and a plot that is sped up a little too much. While the Japanese say imitation is the highest form of flattery, I honestly think that reusing so much of konakana's central conflict as the basis for Shino is a bit too... obvious. There is a reason why no one has managed to match konakana using the same themes, after all... So what are my overall thoughts? If it had just been four charage routes, I probably would have given it guarded praise, for the quality of the heroine stories despite the short length. However, Shino's path was ruined for me by the failure of the writer to give proper impact to the story he was using. I will say that you will cry for Shino... but my standards for utsuge are pretty high. Unfortunately, her path didn't quite achieve a high enough level of quality to match those standards. That said, if you are able to come into the VN without expectations, Shino's path will have significant impact, with Riku's actions during the first half being enormously frustrating and the second half being one long cryfest. The score I gave it on vndb reflects my objective assessment of the VN (my personal assessment would have had it around a 6.9),1 point -
Got on SIF now, 15 seconds until LP bar was full Pressed start on a random song when there were only 2 seconds left This is what it means to be super efficient.1 point

That season skipped so many manga content, it's such a shame. You should definintely give the manga a try because season 3's conclusion and beginning are pretty much out of place with the rest of the series without the manga knowledge.1 point

No particular reason, they just happen to be the easiest to obtain most of the time. I've been thinking of ways to try and branch out more. Maybe make more videos like the Indie Games and the Shiny Loot Bundle. I don't understand the question. I dunno, it just kinda works out that way I guess. Not really anymore. Only if it's a game I can't obtain without torrenting. Or one that's really bad that I really don't want to pay money for. The main reason I've been reviewing western ones if they appear on steam, and steam makes obtaining them easy. I've tried a few Japanese VNs, but since most of them aren't availible to buy in the west, reviewing them sometimes seems kinda odd, as I can't suggest people go buy the game, or not buy it, cause you can't buy it over here. Thank you, that means a lot to me1 point -

Well man, I'm just gonna chalk this up to you and me having different tastes. I thought Go Go Nippon and Sakrua Spirit weren't very good, and kinda stupid, and so in my review I said I thought they were stupid and I outlined reasons as to why. Obviously you don't agree with my opinions on either game, and that's fine. You don't have have. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.1 point -

Great Game Music
Mr Poltroon reacted to The Major for a topic
So, I'd say the Kirby games have my favorite music of any game franchise ever. And I originally wasn't going to post in this thread, simply because there's too much video game music I want to share, so I figured I'd just post some of my favorite Kirby tracks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZBStYy7oSg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZZahUFVnYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGFic2e-uTE Also I realized when I was making this post that Kirby's Epic Yarn has pretty much the greatest music ever, so I'll just link to a playlist (click here).
