  1. It's a bad time for OELVNs, it seems... This is a particularly awful one. You can find the review here: http://reviews.fuwanovel.net/2015/11/01/divine-slice-of-life/ As this is my first review as part of the fuwa review team I would appreciate any constructive criticism and such. Hope you guys enjoy it!

  3. It's time to shamelessly promote my YouTube channel and rake in all of the doe with my 300+ subscribers! As part of my master plan, here is the launch of a brand new podcast series/blog which will replace my old Japanese blog which is currently finished for the time being. I hope you enjoy the episode. In addition, if there is anything you are interested in seeing me chat about on this podcast series, leave a comment below or comment on the video itself. Thanks all!

  4. Eh, shitposting is a 7/10 forum activity. It has some great moments, yes, but overall isn't that impressive. IMHO it does not deserve very high a place in the hallmark of shits

  5. I've been promised that this should be improved in IPB 4.1 which was released earlier this week. I've held off on the update for two reasons: I want to wait and see if any of the other IPB admins run into huge problems (since our upgrade was so much fun) (/sarcasm)Our forum themes require updates (since 4.1 is a rather big upgrade) and I want to make sure they, too, are safe before making the jump.I'm hoping we can get it done by the end of the week, however, and we'll see how things go. (If we run into problems, we'll roll back to a backup we create just before the upgrade)

  6. It's possible to edit nested quotes without removing the whole thing, you just need to add a paragraph before a quote you want to delete. A red line should pop up when you hover in between and you can press an arrow to add a paragraph there. Example with the post you mentioned: Once you do, you can delete the quote (or quotes) underneath without deleting the entire thing. Result: I will grant you it's a more annoying process, though.

  7. I was going to think up some memes about Fuwa that I had heard of every now and then, but I then thought: "Hey, the community should make the community deck right?" So, give me the dankest of memes in Fuwanovel, and I'll make a CAH deck out of them for all to enjoy.

  8. Thanks everyone who volunteered, I should have closed this way earlier but got caught up with some issues regarding some personal projects, sorry about that. I'll eventually PM everyone back, don't worry. You can still read the recruitment OP in the spoiler below if you feel like doing so for whatever reason.

  9. I'll be perfectly honest... having finished Shizuma's path, the only thing I can say is that he was a total douche-bag intelligent self-hating moron to the end. Being inside his mind was depressing, right from the beginning to the end. While I loved most of the other characters on his path, I hated him and his heroines, also from beginning to end. Similar to Kai, he is actually more effective on foot than he is riding in Stigma. Stigma is slightly more durable than Alfaria, and she definitely has a lot better support skills. However, when it came down to it, all that meant was that I had to keep a piece of deadweight alive through the entire game. Gameplay-wise, that is a nightmare in both Kai's and Shizuma's paths. I did like the characters in Shizuma's path more than the ones in Kai's, because they seemed more human (except the psychopath). Unfortunately, there really was no reason why they should have stuck with Shizuma. He resents them through most of the game, takes out his frustrations on them frequently, and generally makes an ass of himself. Also, there was a huge load of 'what was the point of all that?' self-pity from Shizuma for about the last half of his path that made me feel like I wanted to smash his head in. Shizuma's story is dark... but it isn't the kind of darkness you can sit back and take pleasure in. It is the kind of darkness that gives you a headache because it is largely born out of Shizuma's idiocy after a certain point of the game. Yes, I unreservedly hate Shizuma. I don't mind characters that get twisted by the things they have to do, but self-hating, self-pitying idiots with 18 Intelligence and 0 Wisdom make me want to smash things. He does not evolve or really learn from his mistakes, and his paranoia gets old, fast. Story-wise... there are way too many inconsistencies between the two paths, even where they meet. I had to honestly throw my hands up in frustration at trying to figure out how they meant the game to make sense. Not only that, but throughout Shizuma's path you see bits of the backstage that should have really come to the forefront at some point but fizzle out, with the inability to access the third path making me want to do the 'crazy dance'. There should be a third path, because none of the crap that happens in this game is conclusive in any way. They hinted at a third path before release. So why can't I access it after completing both paths once, I wonder? If they mean to release it as a sequel, I'm just going to forget about this game entirely. I am also at least partially sure that heroine choice actually effects things more than it really should in this type of game, due to the sheer amount of extra battles I had to fight in comparison to Kai's path. Since Veridadear is a really easy to notice secondary heroine, I suppose going down her path probably creates a much different outcome from choosing Alfaria. Choosing Stigma in Shizuma's path resulted in a nightmare rollercoaster of endless death that made me bored halfway through (I know that sounds impossible - me loving endless death -, but the way the story for Shizuma's path stumbled so completely after the turning point made me want to scream). Update Ok, the thing you have to do to access the third path is to complete Stigma's and Alfaria's path, as I suspected *sighs*. The difference in length and difficulty between Alfaria's path and Veridadear's path is pretty extreme... and at the end, after playing through the equivalent of two full VN-rpgs? You have to play yet another path... the best thing I can say about it is that you actually find out what was going on behind the scenes to some extent early on. I'm really tired of this game... for obvious reasons. Nonetheless, I'll keep playing this until it is over, lol.

  21. For some reason I feel the need to argue with this one, but I already know what you mean (or at least I think I do). It's just that I feel it needs additional qualifiers. I'd personally change it to not liking common routes that are very long, with heroine routes that are very short. This can be done well, mind you, but it feels somewhat lacking when you finally go down a heroines route almost for it to instantly be over. Generally speaking, the longer the individual routes the more I tend to like the game. This is because: a) Assuming the routes remain roughly on par with one another length-wise, you get that much more story out of each route - instead of one common route being longer, you get 4-5 different routes being longer. b) Some games come dangerously close to 'whambamthankyouma'am' progression of confession to kiss to sex to happy ending, more or less one after another. I'd rather see the long, slow romance where the character's relationship actually gets to develop. Now, this obviously depends on how crazy you are going with heroines - a game with 2-4 heroines is going to have longer routes than games with 5+ (most of the time, some game makers STILL manage to deliver long individual routes with that many...). --- Oh, that made me think of another turn-off. Well, less of a turn-off and more of an extreme annoyance: Side heroines who are much better than the actual heroines that don't get actual routes, even in the inevitable fandisk.

  22. Lol. Primo is giving a very abstract descriptions of what caused her to end up "here", completely using only onomatopoeias. W, well, I got *sfx being blown away* or something, *sfx being covered in mud*, *sfx being spun around*, and finally *sound of being pounded on the ground*, then found myself here. I... don't think I'm going to be able to give you a concrete sentence for this one, lol.

  24. No need to be so judgemental, if the man likes Halo 5 more than the others then that's fine. Also a game's age is irrelevant. Doom was and still is a masterpiece.

"Abused for his honesty" Because I'm the reviewer Fuwa deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So I am hunted, because I can take it. Because I'm not a reviewer. I'm a loud whiner, an ignorant reader. A salt reviewer.

  29. MangaGamer's total costs to localize Koihime Musou without voices were under $50k (1000 copies sold x $50 to break even). I doubt Libra of the Vampire Princess is much longer than that, and Mikandi Japan is asking $85k for the translation alone. I don't know if 170K is a lot of money or not(i really dont know how expensive is to translate the novel and pay for everything else) MangaGamer's total costs to localize Koihime Musou without voices were under $50k (1000 copies sold x $50 to break even). I doubt Libra of the Vampire Princess is much longer than that, and Mikandi Japan is asking $85k for the translation alone. that translation was made when? between 2009 and 2012, we are on 2015-2016 now, also giving it to mangagamer will delay the project by a lot

  30. I'll tell you what happened the one time I actively got more affection with her (was some years ago, I don't remember how many). We ran around, played catch, got into a tickle fight, etc. After that, she proceeded to tell everyone in the house about how great of an experience it was, how much fun she had, how great I was, etc. This all led to my parents both making a huge deal out of it because it was so unusual for me to be like that and so they pestered me for days about it and told the rest of the family. Essentially, the one time I got affectionate with her resulted in the thing I hate the most: being put in the spotlight. It was incredibly embarrassing and I absolutely abhorred it. To me the best way to show gratitute is just enjoying the moment and not making a big deal about it, which is something my family never does, hence why I shy away from doing stuff like that. I know it's irrational, but I can't help it, this is just how I am and how I have always been. I am not as vehemently opposed to it now that she's a bit older, so she probably won't make such a fuss, but I still would rather not do things that involve getting super touchy and up close, if not only for how awkward it would be for me to start being like that all of a sudden. A baby steps approach is much preferred here. In a way I understand you. I hated when my sister tampered with things in my room without my permissions, I hated lending her stuff, I hated basically everything that involved her entering my personal space, and I have yelled at her for it as well plenty of times. Although now I have sort of grown out of that mentality a bit more (she also learned how to knock which was a great step), even though I still don't like when anyone touches my stuff without permission. I won't say it's irrational, everyone likes their privacy, but if your sister is as young as mine, she will definitely start feeling like you hate her and it can take a toll on her daily life, and as I mentioned in my post, I really do kind of want to avoid that at this stage.

  34. The TL wasn't intended to be literal, we were aiming for something that sounded natural to an English speaker in English rather than something which was very heavily Japanese with an 'English coating' (compare Grisaia to Fate). As Moogy and others have pointed out, this has had the unintended effect of coming across as 'completely wrong' because the core audience for something like Koiiro are the heavy VN-otaku who are already expecting that type of TL. For example, on Karen's path, when she goes to make a move on Shizuku-Sensei, "だから信用度は限りなく0なんだが、それを口に出すと花恋はムキになるだけだろう。" Which is, more literally, 'While I can assuredly say I have 0% confidence in her, if I said so she would mugi (become extremely angry)' was shortened to "Yes" To avoid repetition from 5 lines earlier and to keep comedic effect, as well as convey a sense of irritation that was showing in Haruka. Similarly, when trying to hook him up with Nagisa, The original line is: "ふっ……そんなのお構いなしよ!" Which is, more literally; 'Hah...... don't mind those rules!' But the TL chose: "Ha! Rules. What rules?" To make it more stylistically Karen, who tends to have a blatant disregard for fore-planning and can be fairly reckless. Similarly for: "悩み事相談作戦……今度の今度の今度こそ完ぺきのはず…… "Time to enact super modified ultra-strategy: Sure Kill Mk. 3" There's also a line in Mirai's ending where PeasSoft legitimately forgot to include the voice file (but kept the text), so there's a long string of text accompanying a 'ごめん'. You'd have to give some examples for a more definitive answer; some are the types of changes already mentioned, some are blending of surrounding lines so they aren't so choppy, some are stylization, and some are the TL being wrong. Pulling examples from the VNTS thread: the part about leaving out 'ghost members' was intentional; one could not walk up to an English-native highschool student, ask them what a 'ghost club member' was, and reasonably expect them to understand the question (in the part of the world where the TL lives, at any rate). The >お姉さまと呼ばせてください >え?そっちの方もいけるの was a reference to Maria-Sama which the TL confirmed they hadn't read and thus didn't catch (fitting in something similar). Then there are occasions when the TL was legitimately asleep at the wheel, such as Ikuya's offer for lunch and Aisa willingly leaving the room (considering how late at night some of those commits are I wouldn't be surprised if it was a more literal 'asleep'). Bear in mind that Denwatls still lacks a TLC, so the TL never had a sanity check and was too busy driving progress to go back and re-verify all the lines. If there are any TLC who would be interested in running through the game and making notes about things like was done in VNTS we'd be interested in talking with them. Sadly TLCs are even more scarce than TLs. It's Nagisa Day14/Scene 10, 14/11, and 15/6.
