If he releases the scripts and they're actually all translated minus Miu's route, I swear I'll temporarily drop my project and translate it just so we can put an end to this meme. Though if this happens I'm sure there'll be many people doing the same thing, in which case fuck that.

  2. I think you're right about that and I take my statement back since it's simply to general. I've read lots of books in my younger years with action scenes too (god that makes me sound old), like BattleTech, Shadowrun, etc. So it works if they really take a narrative writing style to describes a scene. For example: "He carefully hid behind a small hill following the movements of his enemy. Then after a short moment of hesitation he made his decision and shot his heavy laser targeting the right leg with weaker armor of his opponent." Unfortunately, what I often see in VN's instead is some kind of comic book approach. The 'narration' in those cases then looks more like "Diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeee!!!" followed by five minutes of cling and clang sounds and the screen flashing in every color the rainbow has to offer. Then it contnues with a "Muhahahahah... now you get that back!!!" followed by another ten minutes of disco flashing supported by a chain of very, VERY simple words that almost makes you want to cry. In short, they try to let flashy screens do the job instead of the narration, and for that an anime or a straight comic would simply be better. Those at least show a bit more than the same screen over and over again, just with a different color. So the key question would be if the action scenes in Tokyo Babel will also consist of endless repeated 'Shonen Power' scenes or if they are more descriptive and with unique images instead of flashing screen x 1000.

  4. It may be worth defining some important terms for the sake of clarity. Definitions used are my own, borrowing heavily from the idea that there exists different types of love. Affection: a feeling of gentle, tender regard towards another human being. Not necessarily sexual or romantic in nature. Also known in some circles as "platonic love". Romance: the mood created when something happens that deepens bonds between two human beings. There is a direct implication that the behaviour would lead to the two becoming lovers. Sexual Love, aka eroticism: broadly speaking, sexual feelings towards another human being: i.e., the I-want-you-in-bed-with-me kind. The kind of love that "nukige" try to inspire in its players. Needless to say, while there may be distinctions between these different forms of love in theory, people who experience them very often get them confused together. I think trying to make these distinctions, if indeed they do exist, is what makes OP's question so fascinating for me. Wikipedia describes visual novels as games that "focus on the appeal of the female main characters": and I think this statement is strikingly accurate. I think VNs are specifically engineered to inspire feelings for their characters. And I think its worth asking: how much of this actually comes from "romantic love"? Affection is definitely a large part of it - but that would be an expected reaction towards anything that manages to get you so emotionally invested. You can't spend time with someone and then end up NOT feeling something for him/her. Of course, those feelings might be purely platonic, but you will inevitably have memories of the time in that person's presence, and these memories will inevitably hold emotions. I think this is true not just in the case of finishing a VN or game (especially the long ones), but also in real life. My personal view is that romantic love in VNs can in many instances be superfluous, and if emphasized too much, a detractor to the original story. The most prominent example is the VN that tries to force in a route with every_single_female_character, regardless of whether or not it is warranted or not. My second bugbear is when the possibility of romantic development for any other character outside of the MC is neglected: which to me just feels a little unrealistic - not to mention ridiculously unfair. One of my favourite examples of both of these is Clannad (poor Sunohara!). On the other hand, the Angel Beats anime was remarkable for subverting both these tropes; though of course in the VN remake they were trying to to return to them all over again... I'm not even sure why this is such an annoyance for me. It's more likely just a simple question of taste, though a part of me feels that a VN that completely ignores the sexual elements to deliver a tale of two comrades-in-arms has the potential to deliver a much more profound message, that goes beyond the idea that VNs are datesims and nothing more! Unfortunately, I still have't found that VN yet... As an interesting but relevant aside, it would be worth examining where exactly Moe sits on the spectrum of love.

  10. Okay, I think the problem is the people who worry about action scene was definitely didn't play the demo. Because the demo should give you how Tokyo Babel will be. So, in order to allow all people see the fighting scene, how about the sample of fighting scene from propeller official channel. This is the first fighting scene and if you download the demo you'd definitely know which part (Actually propeller also had fighting scene video, but it contained some spoiler so I couldn't post it here). Well, if after seeing the fighting scene and the people still scare to play this game, too bad. And I apologize if my thought about conjueror review scare some people here to play this VN.

  12. Definately not a dealbreaker - a good story can stand on it's own, regardless. But I'll admit I have an affinlty that favors romance in alot of things I watch/read. Probably a subconcious effect of choosing a single life - I probably draw my source of "the feels" through other mediums (Not crazy or anything, I don't pretend I'm the mc or anything that weird). I'm content to just see a story's characters grow close and work through whatever trials are thrown at them. But definately not a dealbreaker - I mostly enjoyed Ayakashibito's writing style, so I'm looking forward to what TB holds. EDIT: my thoughts on what is/is not a better medium for action/etc: I grew up in a time that relied HEAVILY on books - sword fights, gunfire, martial arts - all of it had to stem from a writers ability, and my own imagination - so to say it should be through a animated medium to be well-expressed just seems silly. god i feel old

There's a whole world of brilliant written fiction across a ton of genres. I very much dispute that visual mediums are inherently better for the vast majority of genres.

  14. While I don't buy into most of the core concepts that this article relies upon (and seems to assume are true without providing support), I can certainly relate to this feeling it describes as 'elevation'. Any anime with parents who trust or treat their children gently tends to make my heart metaphorically smile, be the reason Freudian or not. Sawako's parents in Kimi ni Todoke and Nagisa's parents in Clannad had that effect on me. A bit more than a year ago my sister had a child and had I not been inspired by characters like the ones I mentioned, I don't think I would've been able to build the resolve to be the uncle I want to be. Hopefully I can be an emotional support when things are dark and cheer on when everything is well.

One Mr. Insemination, Lord of Escalator Subs or something of that nature, exhibited great progress in his undertaking of this translation (which some sources that I cannot name say went from Chinese to English), and in a spree of unlimited magnanimity, even went so far as to bestow upon us the partial patch of which you spoke. Thereafter he endeavored to translate some other routes, and, as it would appear, completed all but that of one Mr. Miu. Presumably, Mr. Insemination then came to the prompt realization that Mr. Miu does, in fact, hold fascist inclinations, and thus decided that it would act against the interest of his people to disseminate this particular aspect of the production. However, the other routes remained complete according to the progress page, and after a period of prolonged unrest, he announced that these would be made available to the public on one Mr. April 1st of 2016, in the year of our one Mr. Lord Jesus. Thus, it would seem that you have only a few days to wait to see whether the truth of his proclamation shall manifest itself.

  19. Grand news, denizens of wherever. The much respected Tokyo Babel, a novel released by renowned developers, ‘Propeller’, localised by esteemed translators, Conjueror and Gare, and to be distributed by beloved MG, can now be trialled by you, the adoring[1] public, through a free demo. Gaze in astonishment, play the trial, and pre-order (it doesn’t have to be in that order.) http://blog.mangagamer.org/2016/03/18/tokyo-babel-demo-now-available-for-download/ [1]‘Adoring’ as in ‘you’d all better be adoring cause I know voodoo and will poke every single last one of you if you aren’t’ ahahahaha ... EDIT: Was this post pushy? I don’t think it’s pushy, but some folk are saying ‘it’s too much’. 'Too much' what? Words? Enthusiasm? I dunno. They weren’t exactly very clear, so it’s not my fault if I don’t understand what they’re saying. EDIT2: And now they're groaning in what I imagine is supposed to be frustration, but what in reality sounds like a Wookie in heat. That's even more incomprehensible, and doesn't exactly clarify matters. EDIT3: Ouch!

  25. I actually liked K-On season 2 better than season 1, but solely because of the ending - I can't express well just how much I loved that season 2 ending. It's been long enough that I don't recall how the contents of each season compared, but I expect I'd agree with you that the first season was otherwise stronger than the second. I actually recommend not watching the movie - it took a lot of the punch out of the ending, for me.

Salty rant coming up, also massive spoilers for pretty much every ending. Seriously, don't read this if you haven't finished with S;G. It's too good for just butthurt-joe here to ruin it for you. Alright now that I got all of that off my chest I can continue with the otherwise very enjoyable story. I wonder if any of you are going to fight me over this. However, this is rather rare for me at least The system that itch.io uses is brilliant, and I love it I'd love to pay some amount for the VNs I love if that helps the developer

    Microsoft IME help

To switch keyboard languages just press shift + alt Also you can switch IME to regular letters by pressing caps lock + alt until it reaches that option. I've used Microsoft IME to type in Japanese since always, it works fine and in fact it defaults to typing regular letters the first time I switch, I always have to change it to hiragama. I'd take a screenshot of my options if I was on my PC.

There's higurashi, fault milestone, phenomeno, some OELVNs and that's it. Either the tag system is inaccurate, Or, just possibly, is it so ingrained in our concept of what a visual novel is that everything has to have romance in it? If that's the case, then that just blows my mind. Am i applying the word romance too narrowly? Could titles like narcissu and planetarian be considered romance? I'm so confused right now

    Microsoft IME help

Do you have something like this on your taskbar? For some time I encountered that problem when switching to Japanese input, then I realized that Microsoft IME had intruded into my taskbar and taken over my Japanese input, so in that menu above was the other icon: a.k.a. Google Japanese input, the one I had actually installed, so I clicked on that to go back to the superior method of input (typing in English letters). I then probably did something to disable Microsoft IME, because I now don't see it down there on the taskbar. If your problem doesn't fit my very specific circumstances, then I'm afraid I can't help.

  39. Your opening post has warmed my heart. Good thing I went by to take care of some business. Anyway, I'd interact with you more, but I'm kinda going home at 1AM in the morning and waking up at 5AM to prepare to go to class. Yes, it's mostly a four hour sleep schedule on average. Again, it's because theater has started once again and it's screwing up my whole schedule. I go home everyday with the fear that I might get mugged, but I don't get mugged. Probably because I'm usually bigger than them. So yeah. Pretty much. Life got me again. I'll be a cool kid and finally finish the second Ace Attorney for you after my theater activities. Then I'll observe you as you state all the good things about Ace Attorney in a biased way. Also, you wake up at a time where I'm in the middle of college. Regarding your comments about most of it applying to Shiko, goddamnit man. I have not pegged myself to be a Shiko too. I will now reevaluate myself and think about how I should reinstate my status as a fag. Thank you for opening my eyes, Tiag. A late happy Easter to you. I do enjoy these threads.

    No romance plot

Indeed, I second that. Saya no Uta is horror love story, love is the core and love is the drive of the story. I would even say nothing would exist in it without love.

  42. Well I was pretty hyped for it until I read the post above yours. I never expected Tokyo Babel to be strong in the romance department but hearing that it's that weak, plus 50 % of CG is action... eh. If I really wanted some action outside of meh vidya games, I have a boat load of martial arts movies, anime, and then the occasional Majikoi. If Tokyo Babel is anything like Ayakashibito then I'm sure I would enjoy it quite a lot. Even then though I skimmed through, maybe even skipped, a number of action CG's in Ayakashibito.

    No romance plot

Narcissu certainly not (read my article on it, as Narcissu is not about romance at all. Btw, my article is linked in my signature). But admittedly Saya no uta, and Swan Song do have some romantic elements. So that may disqualify them. Sayooshi on the other hand has sex, but not really romance. So I standby that Narcissu and Sayooshi should have this tag included.

  48. Hello! I'm Viridea, and I also use the name, Viridea Productions just to refer to every project I will work on in the future! I'm working on an original series called, Viridescent Dragon, and it's a kinetic visual novel that is divided into individual chapters. Download it on Gamejolt and itch.io: Gamejolt: http://gamejolt.com/games/viridescent-dragon-chapter-1/92223 itch.io: http://veedragon.itch.io/viridescent-dragon-chapter-1 indiedb: http://www.indiedb.com/games/viridescent-dragon-chapter-1 Hey guys! This is my first Kinetic Visual Novel, called Viridescent Dragon. It's about 50 minutes long if you autoplay the text. I originally had an earlier version of this game called "Charlit Chapter 1" But I updated that game and renamed it to Viridescent Dragon Chapter 1. Yes, this novel is gonna be in chapters as you can see. Here is some info about the game: After waking up in a forest, meet Charlotte, the smack-talking, amnesic dragon girl who travels with her friends on a quest to regain her memories... Who is she and where did she really come from? The journey won't be easy, as she will have to conquer many obstacles and find out the hidden truths about the world she travels through, the friends she makes, the reigning monarchs, and the deities that are worshiped... This is the first of many humorous and drama-filled chapters to come. Press the "A" key to Auto play the text. This game is in 1920 x 1080 resolution, in window mode and full screen mode. Sorry, Windows only. Unless you can find a way to play .exe files on something else. Also, be careful, as the game can crash when you close it, as Novelty, the program I used to create this game, is still in its Beta stages. Be sure to save often, just in case. This is the main reason I consider this game, "unstable". Credits Original Story and Character Art by me, Kassidie Butler (Viridea) 2015 Music by Audionautix.com and AngelHeights (on deviantART) SFX by Freesound.org Backgrounds from Pixabay.org Backgrounds edited with FotoSketcher and Adobe Photoshop CC 2015 Thank you very much, and I hope you enjoy the game!
