Visual Novel Translation Status (15/09/2024) Since we have Ace Attorney Investigation 2 available in English with the name Prosecutor's Gambit along with Sheol is just released today, I decided to parodied the former by changing 'Prosecutor's' into 'Angel's' (Because we have Sheol's MC have angel in his dream), so we have 'Angel's Gambit' as the title. Anyway welcome to this week VNTS Review, and for this week admittedly there's no much update, although one of the updates is in regard of Karenai Sekai release, which is the best VN from its developer which honestly not saying much. For the other notable updates, we have both Sakura Celebration and Sheol exact release date, so good for the fans who've been waiting for both VNs. Overall this week is another below average one, and let's see what I can write about it. Once again we have Capcom released Ace Attorney Investigation duology which included the long awaited Ace Attorney Investigation 2 so obviously this should be very good news. Although unfortunately since the fan team who worked very hard on this is not the part of Capcom translator, naturally Capcom use the different name from fan translator and thus it would took some more times to get used to it. To be fair though it's not fully the translator's fault to not immediately localized Ace Attorney Investigation 2 as soon as possible in 2011, because the reason for 13 years delay is the team who works on the game was disbanded as soon as the game finished in Japan in 2011, and thus they have no chance to work on the translation which would leave the game untranslated if not for the effort of the fans who do more than usual fan translation (Especially with them also think the fitting localized name instead of just leaving Japanese name). Overall, let's just say the player would need to get used to the new name for a while to put it nicely. In the end, feel free to get the duology if you're too lazy to emulate DS and didn't mind the Steam version use Denuvo. Sekai finally have released Sheol on today (September 18th), and no much to say for now besides good for Sekai to have their backlog reduced yet again. Speaking of backlog reduction, we have Sakura Celebration exact release date with said date is on 26th later. Admittedly Sakura Celebration has nice graphic compared to Sheol, although it's definitely on the lower end compared to Nekonyan's other announcements on last Otakon. Oh yes, they also state they need to delay Dracu Riot release up to next year, 2025, so more waiting for the fans who chose to wait for official release. This week fan translation is obviously on Shinzou with they're released Karenai Saku full translation patch along with their secret project is now fully edited, although Studio Frisay also make some progress Ushieta editing work with it currently is at 19.9% edited with Kaori's route is past three quarter (82.8%) edited. As for Karenai Sekai, so far it's the longest VN that Shinzou translate (Usually their work are short VNs) with this is also the longest VN from the developer with their two other VNs that are localized by Sekai (Kemomusu and Nekogami). For the story, it's about Shou who traveled together with the little girl Ren came at the town with beautiful flowers. In the town, he met the three sisters who run a cafe, and Shou chose to work at the cafe in order to have a play to say. In the middle of the night, Shou saw some unexpected happen, with he saw the middle sister Haru hugged the little girl who soon transform into the flower. Afterwards, Haru revealed that she's and her sister have been doing so to stay alive. With no much choice, Shou decided to try to help the three sisters, especially Haru. Go get Karenai Sekai if you're interested with it, and have fun. That's all for what I can write in regard of this week, and see you next week.

Late to reply here. Anyway, now that we have successful Kicktraq, Alcot now set it to be released on November 2025 later. Also turned out there'll be sex scenes, which in hindsight should be obvious from how the VAs using their pseudonym instead of real name (Also now I remember Musicus is funded through Kicktraq).

Rent A Girlfriend 2 - I did read about how Reiji (The author) initially didn't want to write Mami (Kazuya's former girlfriend) as the recurring character only to change his mind after he think it may be interesting to see on how he'll develop her from there in TV Trope, and easy to say he definitely get his answer in the worst way possible. Anyway as for second season of this, well it exist and keep helping TMS (And Reiji) get more money, and it didn't really help the iconic moments of the manga are available in the next two seasons so basically it make the second season overshadowed. Utwawarerumono 3 - It adapt the game faithfully from what I see, although my focus is not on that matter (Well the game is already available in English anyway). But instead my focus is on the Haku's VA change with his initial VA, Fujiwara Keiji, was passed away before the anime was produced. Fortunately though, the writer did write the Haku need to disguised as Osthor because the latter had died in the last episode of Utawarerumono 2, so the staffs immediately cast Osthor's VA, Kentaro Tone, as Haku's VA replacing Fujiwara Keiji, which in a way it become quite poetic with Kentaro Tone is basically succeeded Fujiwara Keiji while in-story Haku is succeeded Osthor. VA trivia aside, this anime is basically the last part of Utwawareumono trilogy, in which while obviously it resolve the second game event turned out it also resolve the event from the first game at the end. Spy x Family - It's Shonen Jump manga which tell the story about a secret agent who was told to start a family in order to do his next mission successfully, and he manage to do so with the female assassin and the little girl, Anya, who can read mind with each of the false family members didn't know their own secrets (Well Anya definitely know her pretend parents secret). As time goes on, the family will face several obstacle with we'll see on how they'll get over it. The notable thing of the anime is that Anya's VA is Kiritani Hana (Real name Tanezaki Atsumi) with she become more noticeable for anime fans thanks to her performance as Anya, which make her eventually landed a Precure role (Cure Friendy of WPC). Muv Luv Aternative - After several years of waiting since we have it released with the VN inspired a certain someone to make very well known Attack on Titan, finally we have it adapted as the anime. That said, ironically the studio is not the one who make Attack on Titan (Wit and Mappa), but rather it's the less known one, Yumeta Studio. Also to add more of irony, the studio can't adapt the whole game faithfully, which may be happen because the lack of funding seeing the remaining story is two big battle before the ending and thus need more resource to do the animation work. Some fans did suggest there may season 3 to adapted the remaining story, although there's none of it until now. Isekai Pharmacy - The writer of the novel is the doctor, so at least you can be assured on the accuracy of the medical writing. The story is about 31 years old doctor was dead because of overwork, and to no one surprise he was reincarnated in the other world as 10 years old Falma. Falma's father is known as the greatest doctor in the other world, although unfortunately the medical standard is not advanced enough compared to the modern era despite his father's skill. So with Falma still has his memories as the doctor from modern era decided to improve the medical standard as much as possible, and sure enough he manage to improve it to a degree. The anime here appropriately enough close it with Falma fight the Black Death pandemic, in which it's deadly disease that wiped half of the Europe (And it's very appropriate to have the anime talk about pandemic back when Corona spreading). By the way, this is the first isekai manga that I'd read. Paripi Koumei - It's about the very famous tactician from Three Kindom Zhunge Liang (Known as Koumei) was dead because of his old age, and somehow he find himself to be in Shibuya while he become younger. Confused, Koumei wonder around until he hear someone singing with Koumei admired the voice is very good. Afterwards, Koumei find the singer, Eiko, and he make the proposal to Eiko to make her become very famous, which to say will certainly happen. Obviously we shouldn't wonder if Koumei schemes will be successful or not, but instead we should wonder on what strategy from the Three Kingdom (Or classic Chinese in general) that Koumei will be use to make Eiko become more famous. The anime ended after Eiko finished her first step into the major events, and there's still much more steps that she need to go through in the manga after the anime ended. For a side note, the director of this is now working on one of Summer 2024 anime, Mayonaka Punch. That's all for what I can write in regard of Summer 2022 anime here.

Hyakusen no Jou ni Katawareshi Toki
littleshogun commented on Clephas's blog entry in Clephas' VN home
My experience with Eushully is only the one that have fixed encounter, so I never thought there would be random encounter in Eushully game (I can't speak about Grasesta here, seeing the translator apparently still has real life obligation to finish it). Anyway, I guess it's too bad that whenever Eushully experimented with gameplay it's rarely turned out to be good, and yet the one that has the same battle system is usually more praised. Also it's interesting that this time Eushully decided to separate the sex scenes with the patch, so perhaps they may have some plan with Hyakusen here, such as trying to add this into Steam (I may be speculate too much on that though). In any case, at least it's interesting we can learn about the Ziltery royal family that was mentioned in Emelita's route of Kamidori, and Eushully didn't make the mana system like in Rhapsody. -
Well maybe something nice from the most recent title, such as Unravel Trigger or Kyokkou no Marriage, or perhaps the most recently translated Tsui no Sora Remake. I can't make guarantee that you'll absolutely like those though, although if you manage to like it then good for you. Regardless, I hope my recommendations will be helpful to you.

recruiting Shuffle! Essence+ Translation Project [0.0.3]
littleshogun replied to unclebane's topic in Translation Projects
Well it's my very first VN that I played back in 2009, with me back then expect many sex scenes like in Shera My Witch only to find it almost had none (10 sex scenes). Honestly while the VN is quite interesting in 2009, nowadays there's much more interesting title available in English and not to mention there are much better interesting untranslated VNs from Navel, Oretsuba and Tsukiyori. Still, good luck on your effort and hopefully you'll be able to deliver it (Possibly with the removed sex scenes for both of Kareha and Mayumi). -

Visual Novel Translation Status (08/09/2024) Since we have another Date A Live VN released along with Sakura Celebration is almost ready to be released with the latter has magician (ie witch) heroines, I decided to reuse the VNTS title from five years ago, Date A Witch, with I add the roman number of 2 (II), so we have 'Date A Witch II' as the title (By the way I chose roman number because the anime sequel of Date A Live like to use roman number). As for this week, let's just get over the worst news with Hikari Field unfortunately get the same reviewer when they submit their Tenshi Reboot build, and thus it was banned beyond the doubt. Besides that, we also have the aforementioned Date A Live release along with Cherry Kiss nukige. Overall, this week is a below average one, and let's see what I can write about it. Once again Tenshi Reboot was banned without doubt, and thus Nekonyan decided to take the action, Said action is namely Nekonyan decided to finally put some effort on releasing it in the other platforms, and they mentioned they aim for early 2025 release which mean we may see it on March 31st at most. That aside, at least there's some good news in regard of Steam, with one of those is in regard of the aforementioned Sakura Celebration release in which they already have the Steam store for it opened, and they also announce the release will be happen sometimes in September (ie this month). Honestly speaking it's not the most interesting new announcements from Nekonyan, but seeing that it's almost completed when Sol Press was out of order at least it's nice to see it finally released, and hopefully with Sakura Celebration we may see Nekonyan rescuing more title from Sol Press, such as Witch's Garden or HHG with both title are also from Windmill. Cherry Kiss just released their newest nukige, and once again it's about the MC who find out the easiest way to fulfill his dream to have sex with idols is just hypnotized them, and he does so with the results speaks for itself. Well, go get the VN if you want to see the successful story of the idol fan hypnotized his favorite idol group in order to have sex with them, and have fun. Idea Factory was released their newest Date A Live VN, Ren Dystopia, and unlike their otome VNs they only released it on Steam therefore make it PC exclusive. For the story, it's happen after the event of third season with Shido suddenly find himself need to confront the mysterious evil spirit, the titular Ren. I have no much to say other than feel free to get Ren Dystopia if you want more Date A Live after it's fifth season ended, and have fun. For fan translation progress, we have Haruka na Sora is fully translated with the full translation patch is available in the translation's group Discord, Taima Seiko Alice is at 60% edited, and Akagoei 3 is at 18.53% in QA. Lastly, we have new announcement from Shiravune, and said announcement is Beastkin Training with the MC was accidentally broke a precious vase resulting him being fired with the only choice to repay the debt is to train a very aggressive beast girl through a lot of sex or something like that. Not my favorite announcement, although some people may be interested with this. That's all for what I can write in regard of this week, and see you next week.

Anime of the Year 2022-II Spring - Kingdom 4th Season
littleshogun commented on kivandopulus's blog entry in Anime of the Season
Otome Mob - Obviously the author just want to make the male MC in isekai to begin with, and the author decided to add shoujo manga otome game stuff with the male MC reincarnated as background character after being blackmailed to play otome game with robot and very hard gameplay that his little sister bought (I tried to search the otome game with mecha which to say is quite out there to me, and turned out I find five of those with obviously none of those featuring gameplay). Another thing to note is Leon as the MC is not really ideal MC like most of isekai MC (Regardless on how the premise pretty much scream usual isekai) with him being snarky and all, and honestly his way to enter the isekai is pretty out there. Overall not the kind of novel that you should read if you want some less ridiculous settingm but at least it should be entertaining enough to a degree. Yu-Gi-Oh Go Rush - Konami clearly already run out of the idea of making the new Extra Deck monster type, so they decided to may as well make the new duel type, Rush Duel, with the simpler cards compared to the cards from regular duel nowadays (At least for now). That said, actually Go Rush is the second anime series that featured Rush Duel with the first one is Sevens. For the premise of this Yu-Gi-Oh, we have Yudias with he's the alien who come to Earth in order to learn about Rush Duel so that he can make his home planet have better future. That's all for what I can write in regard of Spring 2022 anime here. -
Quite surprising there's much more releases compared to last month at 11 VNs. As for VN of the Month, I agree that it should goes to Kyokkou no Marriage (Rare ensemble VN with no trap MC and surprisingly intricate plot), with everlasting flowers come second thanks to it's nice graphic despite vote bombing for sprite's careless mistake (sprite decided to add the DRM which force the player to connect the internet each time they play it, which obviously no go for Steam deck user). Also while it's easy to see everlasting flowers as GL VN, turned out it's just have woman friendship at most. For the rest, goHELLgo has same director as Dohna Dohna and therefore have similar gameplay, Nagaruboshi was made by the regular illustrator for Frontwing (So they can publish it), and Hyakusen Toki is more like Kamidori prequel with the main casts is the member of the ruined noble in Kamidori (And looks like the reception are not as warm as Amayui 2). That's all for my comment on August 2024 releases.

Visual Novel Translation Status (01/09/2024) Welcome to this week VNTS Review, and because we have Lunaria Steam released along with Sleepless Nocturne announced, I decided to combine both words so we have 'Moonchild Nocturne' as the title with the 'Moonchild' word is from Lunaria full title (Lunaria -Virtualized Moonchild-). For this week, other than the already mentioned Lunaria Steam version release and Tsui no Sora release, we also have sprite released Everlasting Flowers which turned out to be not full GL VN as people expected, Cherry Kiss announced yet another nukige, and also JAST was announced the release time for Mojika. Overall, this week is quite an average one, and let's see what I can write in regard of it. Once again Cherry Kiss announced yet another nukige, and said nukige is called Hypnosis Idol: Greatest Tits with the premise is the MC find out on how to have sex with his favorite idols. Said method is by using hypnosis, so the MC will do the hypnosis to his favorite idol group with all four of its member will have sex with the MC. Not the biggest announcement to me, but if you interested with it then you can wait until Cherry Kiss release it on Friday. We also have Lunaria Steam version release, and the premise is still the same with genius virtual online gamer Tabito encounter AI avatar Lunar-Q on the abandoned server which located in the moon, and Lunar-Q express her wish to see the Earth with Tabito tried his best to fulfill her wish. For comparison with Tsui no Stella, Lunaria is far lighter even though there are some dramatic turn in the story, which make sense seeing Lunaria is more like love story. Go get Lunaria Steam version if you've been waiting for it, and have fun. This week we also have some news in regard of the exact release date for two VNs (Forbidden Ward and Hime no Rakuen), with both will be released on 27th later. For fan translation, we have Akagoei 3 was fully finished its editing work and currently it's been in QA work with the latest progress the QA work for it is 18.06% done, and Taima Seiko Alice is at 60% edited. Also like I say beforehand we have Sakura no Uta translation project was started with it was at 8% translated, and for more elaboration the prologue was already fully translated with the first chapter, Fruhlingsbeginns past halfway (52%) translated. Oh yes, I did mention JAST is about to release Monika, and according to their site they'll release it in February next year. There's still no exact release date as of now, but at least it shouldn't be long wait if people have been looking forward to Mojika. Lastly, we have Everlasting Flowers in which it had some problematic launch, and obviously the problem is not really the VN is more focused on the friendship between two girls instead of full romance. But instead it's because sprite decided to add DRM that force the player to play the game online, which obviously won't be good in case people played on Steam deck or have the internet connection cut off, although thankfully sprite add the patch which remove the requirement to be online. That said, unfortunately sprite still didn't add Music Mode, in which they've been doing so since Aokana (Which Nekonyan ported the game so they can add Music Mode). For the premise, it's about the broken girl Mina get the invitation to live in the seaside lounge for the summer, and in there she met Ran who is the opposite of her. While sprite did some mistakes, at least they prove they can do good job on art with it was said to be the high point of the VN. Go get Everlasting Flowers if you've been waiting for it, and have fun. That's all for what I can write in regard of this week, and see you next week.

Anime of the Year 2022-I Winter - Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season Part 2
littleshogun commented on kivandopulus's blog entry in Anime of the Season
Sono Bisque - It's about the high school student who made Hina doll, Gojou, was asked by his classmate Marin (Who is very popular girl in the class). As for what Marin asked to Gojou, it's to make the costume for her to her cosplay hobby. From there, Gojou start to find himself like to make the costume (And allow the audience to learn about making costumes together with him) while he find himself getting close to Marin. The most recent chapter of the manga has Marin kiss Gojou after both have their own doubt, so good for them. DPPC - Initially we thought finally Toei starting to get normal after the pandemic, although unfortunately a careless employee manage to let the company server was hacked causing the shutdown on several server with Toei forced to delay the season like they did back in HealGPC. It's also notable Toei tried to do some experiment by making a male character become the expy of Tuxedo Mask (Helping the Precure fighting the enemies) with the male keep his secret to the heroines until the end of the series, and let's just say I hope Toei won't do similar experiment for a very very very long time. Anyway, this Precure is revolving about Yui who is like to eat, and as you can see the main theme of the series is food (Not limited to sweets like in KKPC). Komi Can't Comminucate - Like Sono Bisque, this series is about the male MC had the relationship with the popular girl in the class, which in this case it's about Tadano who have relationship with the titular Komi. For the story, we have Tadano sat on the next seat to Komi find out her secret beneath her cool beauty, namely Komi had big anxiety so much she can't communicate to the other person quickly. Seeing that, Tadano assured Komi that he'll help Komi to find her new friends as much as possible, and from there we see the relationship between both start to bloom. By the way the manga of this has unusual format for romance story, with it was tell in 4-koma format which usually used in comedy manga. Ousama Ranking - Another anime that I find out to be the candidate of the best anime in 2021 after Odd Taxi, and the arts are very contrast with on how dark the story in the anime can be. For the premise, it's about the kingdom who has it's legitimate successor thrown away from the throne, and the reason is because the legitimate successor Bojji is very weak physically while the king is expected to be very strong. Thus, Bojji start his journey accompanied by his loyal retainer Kage to get strong so that he can claim his rightful position for the throne. Note that while the characters in the anime looks like as simple as it is, there are much more to be discover beneath the first glance. That's all for what I can write in regard of Winter 2024 anime here. -
Anime of the Year 2021-IV Fall - Blue Period
littleshogun commented on kivandopulus's blog entry in Anime of the Season
Uma Musume - Obviously the anime staffs thought the audience would prefer male character in order to allow the male audience to self insert regardless of their interest, so the staff adding nameless male trainer who is the representation of the player from Uma Musume game. That said, at least the girls don't fight for trainer's love like in Two Cars. For the premise, admittedly the premise is kind of weird, with it follow the trend of Kancolle by making horses as the girl. For the anime, if you thought the girl being the moefication of the horse is too out there, you can always treat the girls do cosplay as the horse while doing long-distance run. Also the anime itself can be quite hot-blooded like usual shounen sport anime despite the cute outfit the casts wore. By the way, the races in the anime are usually based on real life horse race, and the horse name is also based on the real life horse. Yuuki Yuna - Apparently the writer of Majikoi, Takahiro, was inspired on his fellow VN writer, Urobochi Gen, success on writing dark magical girl series Madoka, so Takahiro decided to write his own answer to Madoka which is this series. Anyway, the premise is simple enough with Yuna and her friends are the members of hero club, and one of their job is to fighting the extraterrestrial threats as the magical girl. With Madoka comparison in mind, the girls need to pay the heavy costs in order to keep fighting. As you can see, there are three seasons, with the first season in 2014 is mainly deal with the main girls daily lives (Including fighting) which eventually got harder, the second season in 2017 expand the setting and show the eventual fight against the final adversary, and the third season is kind of unusual with it adapt two of the side stories from the novel while adding some additional setting that we learnt in the stories into the season 2 final battle. At least the ending of season 3 show the epilogue of the story, which was lacked in season 2. Super Cub - It's abut the girl who is alone without her family, Koguma, living her dull life. However, all soon changed when she figured out that it would be better for her to buy new motorcycle, and so she purchase used Super Cub which help her life to be more colorful. While obviously this make good slice of life anime, Honda saw the chance for advertisement, and so there'll be Honda product in the anime (I don't really know if Honda sponsored the anime though). Being possible Honda advertisement aside, the staffs really know on how to set the mood, such as when Koguma got her used Super Cub the coloring in the anime started to be more colorful, reflecting Koguma's new life. Jahy - It's about the 2nd in command of the demon queen Jahy got defeated by the magical girl, and unlike Shamiko Jahy here is not exactly what we call nice person, which make her comical misfortune is quite fitting fate for her. Still even with her bad luck, she'll eventually got blessed by small lucks. The studio manage to adapt the anime in more than one cour (At 20 episodes), although unfortunately it didn't manage to adapt Chapter 74, which would possible had the staffs got full two cours (24 episodes) green-lighted. Love Live Superstar - After their experiment with both Sunshine and Nijigasaki, the staff figured out it may be better back to the basic with Love Live with them make Kanon looks like Honoka (Original Love Live MC), hire the main writer of original Love Live, and have the idol group save the school. That said, the staffs also add some new elements, such as make the initial five idols instead of initial nine with all of them are in the first year. For the premise, it's about Kanon meet Keke who is come all the way to Japan from Shanghai because her being idol otaku, and soon they formed school idol group. Obviously the staff initially planned two seasons before the third season was green-lighted with them leave the remaining story about Keke for the second season, although too bad the staffs was fumbled when they wrote second season ending which probably happen because they're not used to write Love Live with three seasons (The 3rd season will be aired in the upcoming October). Selection Project - Unlike Love Live Superstar, the staff decided to just make it as nine idols, although they also make the audition set up with the goal of the audition was to chose the next big idol after the idol Akari was passed away. I still remember on how the first episode ended dramatically with Suzune passed out after she sang in the audition causing some audience chose another candidate and make Suzune was eliminated, although Suzune herself manage to passes anyway after the one who passed the audition quit the competition. Some did mention the main plot is similar to Idoly Pride, and to be fair it is with Suzune resembled Sakura while Akari's little sister Rena also join the audition with her initially looking up the others as rivals before finally defrosted. So with no male manager in sight, obviously we have the relationship between Suzune and Rena as the major focus of the story. Blue Reflection Ray - I did play the game Blue Reflection, and the game is quite unique with magical girl (Called Reflector in the game) as the casts fighting the embodiment of negative emotion in the other dimension. Turned out Gust manage to get some investment to continuing with Blue Reflection franchise which I assume was happened thanks to big revenue on Atelier Ryza sales, so we have Blue Reflection 2nd Light game along with this two cours anime which apparently was pushed by the illustrator himself. For the anime, it's a bit different from the game, and by different I mean we have Reflectors civil wars with the good Reflectors would tried to protect the human's heart while the bad Reflectors would steal the human emotions. The MC of the anime is Hiori who was chosen to be the good Reflectors, and then she decided to keep fighting the bad Reflectors alongside her friends. High Rise Invasion - Technically this anime is like Promised Neverland Season 2 with the staffs adapt 150 chapters into 12 episodes, although at least it's not that bad considering most of the chapters are spent in one place (At least from what I see when I read the manga). The story is about the ordinary high school girl Yuri who thrown into another world, although instead of enjoying her life as shoujo otome villainess or get broken ability she must do her best to survive because the world has a number of masked man who is out to kill everyone. However knowing her brother is also trapped with her, Yuri tried to do very best to survive. While the anime adapted half of the manga, the staffs still manage to end it in cliffhanger so it's possible they count the possibility for the second season. Oh yes, this anime is available on Netflix with the staffs released all of it in one go instead of broadcast it weekly. Let's Make a Mug - Admittedly there's no much word to describe this show other than it being slice of life CGDCT anime with the girls focusing on making the mugs. It also came with the VAs of the main girls visiting the real life location which featured in the anime (So basically the anime promoted Tajimi town which is famous for its ceramic making), although obviously we just focused on the animation part so this is basically half-length anime. For the story, it's about Himeno who came back into her late mother hometown Tajimi with Himeno find out her late mother had been the prodigy in ceramic making. I tried to search about this anime in the past, and I find out the studio who worked on this anime was produce World Masterpiece Theater series in the past, so you can say the staffs still know on how to make slice of life anime (Just with less adapting overseas literature). Dragon Maid - The initial reaction from the GL fans where Kyoani adapt this would be doubt seeing Kyoani series usually tease GL only to throw it away later (One of the example is Hibike Euphonium) with Dragon Maid is pure GL, and turned out Kyoani successfully adapted this without downplayed the GL. With it being successful, obviously second season was planned. Unfortunately though, in 2019 one madman was deluded enough to think Kyoani copied his work and thus decided the best action would be do arson to Kyoani station, killing several Kyoani animators. It took years for Kyoani to recover, and Maid Dragon second season is the first anime that Kyoani produce after the disastrous arson which also planned as their comeback anime. For the story, it simple enough with Kobayashi encounter female dragon Tohru, and then Kobayashi herself start to encounter more dragons in her daily life. I also should mention while the series is mostly about daily life, sometimes Kyoani would exhibit their animation capabilities in the battle scenes. That's all for what I can write in regard of 2021 anime, and yes I'll use Fall season to comment some anime that I keep my eyes on it at each years. -
Anime of the Year 2021-III Summer - Meikyuu Black Company

Realist Hero - One day after his grandfather passed away, Kazyua Souma was summoned into the poor kingdom in another world. Unlike the usual isekai MC, Kazuya didn't have very broken superpower, although he have a wealth knowledge about history along with ecnomy with he immediately demonstrate it to the king. Impressed, the king announced Kazuya as his successor, and obviously hard works await him. While obviously being the king is not easy, Kazuya start to pull all of his effort in order to get the kingdom out of bind, with one particular issue is the kingdom about to face both of the rebellion and the invasion from another kingdom. JC Staff did adapt this in two cours, and the anime ended with the arc where the former king reveal the real reason on why he chose Kazuya as his successor. Another thing to note here is Kazuya use Machiavelli book The Prince as the guide to rule the kingdom fairly rather than using it as the justification to be the tyrant king. Higurashi Sotsu - While the duology make the casts face another big ordeal after they were finally freed from it is very rude, at least people can say it tried to give more insight towards a certain character. Also if Ryukishi decided to forcefully connect Higurashi into Umineko, at least we can say the unnecessary ordeal the characters faces are part of the metaphor of a certain someone mindset. That said, we can still criticize Sotsu for revealing the main culprit at less than halfway of the duology (In episode 17 out of 39 episodes), which inevitably make Sotsu is basically giant filler for 80% of it because the staffs wrote the series like Ryukishi wrote the Question and Answer arcs in original Higurashi. For comparison, the original Higurashi revealed the main villain at past three quarter of the series and Ryukishi make use of Answer arc as the way to gradually revealed the main villain. That said, in the end I guess it may be worth to anyone who like the GL subtext between two of its casts, although there are much better alternative if you watch the duology only for the GL subtext anyway. Remake Our Life - Some people asked on why there's Island and Aokana promotion, and the answer is very simple because the original writer of the work is Kio Nachi (Aokana writer) and the anime developer is Frontwing. This work is about former mobile game developer staff Kyouya who find himself wasted away his life after he saw three people of his age shine more than him, and then Kyouya somehow whisked away into the past with he encountered those three talented people at their youth. Not want the chance goes waste, Kyouya decided to make full use of his chance by blindly working with the three talented people without realizing the consequences before it's too late. From what I see, looks like the anime is only covered halfway of the available novel with the manga has roughly the same ending as the anime. Kanojo mo Kanojo - The anime is about Naoya who become very happy after he was accepted as the boyfriend of his childhood friend, Saki. One day, he was confessed by another girl, Nagisa. Seeing Naoya such a nice boy (And it help Nagisa's earnest effort manage to grab Naoya's attention), he decided to accept Nagisa as his second girlfriend while accepting any obvious problem that will come from it. Thankfully the author is not the one behind School Days, so Naoya's head is still intact even if he need to deal with his two girlfriends (And eventually four girlfriends) are quite unique on their own. There'll be a lot of shouting in this anime, which is more or less the author's style ever since he wrote Aho Girls. Oh yes, the reason on why the author wrote the harem story is because he didn't want any of the girl unwinnable like in any romance manga with more than one love interest (ie Gotoubun, Nisekoi), which to say is quite interesting. That's all for what I can write in regard of Summer 2021 anime here. PS - Oh yes, mod Clephas did mention about Bakarina in which it's supposed to be otome game villainess stuffs. I decided to try do some searching on whether there's otome game that had similar scenario as Bakarina (And bunch of other works of the genre) with middle age and magic, and let's just say I didn't find any otome game villainess with the shallow motive like original Catarina. Obviously the author only think of shoujo manga villainess when he think on Catarina, and the reason for otome game setting in Bakarina is because he thought it's the only way to allow the girl to have more than one love interest (Never mind harem work rarely make use of dating sim/eroge setting and there's serveral well known reverse harem works). Regardless, Bakarina turned out to be very popular and thus the new writers didn't need to become rocket scientist in order to find out potential profit of the genre, thus perpetuating the misunderstanding of otome game villainess. -
Eden's Zero - What I know is the author tried to use space as his setting even though he still carried the power of friendship that people know back when he wrote Fairy Tail, which mean obviously he wrote Happy as the call back to Fairy Tail. Currently the manga is already finished, so the author can put his focus back on Fairy Tail 100-years Quest which currently got the anime adaptation courtesy of JC Staffs (Same studio who work on this). Oh yes, while the author usually make the MC name based on Japanese words of the season, this time the author decided to name the MC Shiki which mean 'Four Seasons' instead of just naming him something like 'Aki' (Japanese word for fall) or 'Fuyu' (Japanese word for winter). Odd Taxi - I was bored when I do some browsing in regard of Best Anime in 2021, and several results did list Odd Taxi as one of those. Anyway while it's easy to dismiss the casts as the talking animals like in Zootopia or Bearstar, actually all of the casts are human with the animal appearance is because it's what Odokawa (The MC who also the driver of the titular taxi) percept. Odd Taxi is one of the hidden gem for Spring 2024, with people didn't expect it became popular at the beginning only to be proven wrong with the series gather quite a number of Blu-ray sales and eventually made the movie that address the cliffhanger ending in the TV series. Tokyo Revenger - Another shonen dark series which in like with Jujutsu Kaisen, although unlike Jujutsu Kaisen there's no much use of magic besides time travel. And yes, we have one here in which it was used by the MC Takemichi in order to prevent the death of his girlfriend Hinata. By the way you may mistaken Mikey as the MC, which is understandable because he was promoted more compared to the MC so much I thought he was the MC before I search more of it (Especially with he has cameo in Shikanoko anime). Admittedly Mikey's story is as much as important as Takemichi's quest, although in the end he's not really the one who start the story. Higehiro - Obviously this is one anime that would make people who never watch the anime practicing their moral preaching skill to the level of annoyance in Twitt..., I mean X. That aside, this anime is about the MC Yoshida who just had his confession was rejected by his crush suddenly find the high school girl Sayu outside his apartment, and Yoshida being confused he decided to allow Sayu to live in his house. Some times later, Yoshida realize the people may gossiping around him had someone find out he sheltered Sayu, although after he find out Sayu's extraordinary circumstances in which she ran all the way from Hokkaido to Tokyo alone he decided to allow Sayu live together consequences be damned. I did read the manga some times before the anime announced, and turned out the anime was adapted further compared to the manga. That's all for what I can comment in regard of Spring 2021 anime.
