Katawa is a mixture of typical for VNs school setting, route system with one girl romance for each route with western patterns of behaviour in characters. It's also not bad at all, have interesting characters, nice premise, some routes are really interesting, homour works, have a lot of 'feels', and it's just an easy reading. People who do not 'live' in ocean of anime and mangas (like me) could bounce off the wall builded by silly characters, lolis, moe girls, typical japanesse jokes and quirks, and sudden, unrealistic h scenes that are common in japanesse VNs. Katawa have very little of this, so it's much easier for western people to get into visual novels through KS. Even h scenes are much more 'grounded', 'westerny' and simply more realistic and therefore - much better than 95% of h scenes in japan VNs. I started with KS so I can say - it works. Then I went for Yume Miru Kursui and bounced off heavily. Fortunatelly G-Maou and S;G pulled me back to the world of VNs.3 points

Ngl, I just had a derp moment and was like, "Oh shit, her name's Suzu? Crap, I didn't even notic-" Went and editted the name on the Koiky Walkthrough Then remembered all the flak the TL got for overusing Yuzu even when she doesn't Yuzu herself and so I was like WAITTTT A MINUTE!!!13 points

So i just came across that nice & intriguing looking little something, which i never heard of before (same with the circle in question) and that is currently put on SteamGreenlight by CultureSelect. not much to say from my side, other than its visuals make my heart go all fuzzy and the writing/translation also seems quite befitting the story itself, e.g.: "unless you want that hood of yours blown straight to El Roso, you best move along". aye! (bit curious if @Ryechu had some sort of involvement there). eitherway stuff needs your very support in case high noon-ish waifus, social issues & lots of clang boom pow (literally) are what you´ve been always longing for. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=728993422 "Dead End Junction was written and directed by Hidume, the sole member of 773, creator of the acclaimed Cherry Tree High series and fan of old Westerns like The Magnificent Seven and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Their sharp sense of humor is on full display here, though they do an excellent job proving they can write a serious story with this title as well. To be localized by the start-up publisher Culture Select, Dead End Junction is a visual novel that captures the aura of the Wild West while addressing social issues that are relevant to contemporary society." edit: personal hype train just went off at maxx speed after re-reading the passage above, simply because the one who decided on creating fiction, possibly influenced by "good, bad & ugly´s" grandiosity, is more than worth my given support.2 points

It has a bit of everything, it's short, it's not super anime-ish (all things considered), and so on. Generally, I think it's a typical first recommendation cuz that way people get a sample of what VNs are like in general, without scaring them by immediately recommending Discipline.2 points

100%ing these games is a huge pain so I wouldn't necessarily recommend doing that, but I would recommend going down every major branch in the flowchart at least once, they all have interesting stuff in them. Once you've gotten an ending or two in each major story branch, you've pretty much seen most of what there is to see in School Days. Keep playing if you want to see even more, but you won't be missing much if you stop there.2 points

Clannad and especially Clannad Afterstory. I don't think that there any many shows that can really compare to how much of an emotional roller coaster this show is. There are other shows that'll make you cry and what not but I don't think any do as much as Clannad.2 points -
Yeah, but it makes a big point of how far to shit has the US citizens gone. Trump being the actual candidate from the Republicans is already somewhat crazy (but, well, it's the republicans, they are a joke in general). But the moment you realise that a candidate for presidency of the White House, has more in common with Hitler than anyone else... well, kinda makes me facepalm when I see people struggling to decide who to vote. "Hey, Trump wants mass-deportations, a retarded Chinese wall-like, and closing as much as possible a country that gets so many riches from being this international. Yeah... but the other candidate had some weird corruption shit some time ago!"1 point

Can't really compare FMA/FMAB to DBZ. One is based on a manga that had a planned complete storyline and only FMAB portrayed the entire storyline. Yes you can logic your way out of anything but FMAB is legendary. As far as I can see, only nostalgia made people like the first incarnation of FMA. To me there was no comparison though. /opinion1 point

Because it's a fantastic starter VN. It doesn't rely on the typical Japanese bullshit tropes, sure, there are plenty of elements there, but it almost never shoves it into your face like so many Japanese visual novels do. It manages to remain believable throughout the story, which is something few VNs manage to do. In this regard it does benefit form the fact that it remains pretty realistic, but that not necessary for something to be believable. Majikoi is a good example of a unrealistic visual novel that remains believable throughout the story, right from the start it sets you up with ridiculous scenarios and remains true to its universe. Katawa Shoujo also has an underlying theme that is very easy to relate to and make you feel for the characters, a very fitting soundtrack, decent art and some of the most human characters I have come across in a visual novel. And it's truly free.1 point

I wanna say Ping Pong the Animation. Its art style will let it remain timeless, it's largely unconventional, and since it's not simply just a sports anime it will have wider appeal I think. Also, Gurren Lagann is still within the last decade, so that.1 point

Because the "best" for someone could be one VN with a super deep and complex story that would mind-fuck (in the bad way) any people new to this world. Or simple leave them indifferent, since they wouldn't even know what they were getting into. I'm sure the best for someone who does gliding or climbing is to go for the extreme, to go do the awesome, albeit dangerous, stuff. But I very much doubt someone who just learned to properly climb would like to go climb a super steep mountain with no safe-guard or help.1 point

Not sure if true. I thought there was always a good balance. Some nukige, some charage and some serious games. Like today. If you don't mind, I will give my own opinions about your recommendations. Let's make this an old school eroge recommendation thread! Private Nurse: Interesting premise, but awfully paced execution. The game is simply too long for its own good. At first, the game tells you it will only span a week. And by the end of the week, it's already really boring. But then it will extend its time period to a full month! In the last weeks, every day is literally the same. (And with literally I really mean "word for word" the same.) And the ending was also a punch in your face. I really wanted to like this game, but I couldn't. Figures of Happiness: Probably the first eroge which really offended me. This game is simply rage-inducing from the first minute on. And it will never get better. It may make you think that there will be a pay-off in the end ... but there will be another twist which makes everything even worse. Horrible, horrible game. Brave Soul: I had fun with this. For me still the best officially released HRPG in English. Characters are fun, gameplay is fun, it's just good fun. Hourglass of Summer: Mediocre, I guess? Well, I liked that everything was voiced, even the narration. But it really couldn't live up to its potential, I think. Not really bad though.. just not really good. Snow Sakura: Mediocre again, I guess? It's full of anime and otaku references which I found quite funny back then, but newfags probably won't get them nowadays, lol. Princess Waltz: Haven't played that. I stopped reading English translated eroge when it came out. Family Project: Haven't read it either. Or rather I stopped after the OP or something. It was funny, but it couldn't really hook me. Crescendo: Red and Green route were quite good. Whore route was lulz. Sister route was cringy. Teacher route simply bad. ...hidden route actually really good. Liked it. Kana: Now that one is awesome. Of course only the original version. Not the disgusting Okaeri-remake. Phantom of Inferno: Haven't played it because some guy standing right before me in line bought it before I could. Bought Hourglass of Summer instead. Not sure if that was the better option, lol.1 point

Both eden and ef had a lot of 'feels', but it was almost obvious that there will be a lot of emotions basing on premise alone. Here I see nothing of that. It looks like lighthearded story with magic. But it's Minori, so it will be as beautiful and visually pleasing as VNs can get. Without shitty e-mote, but with a lot of movement that looks simply nice. I'm interested in this, but I don't like reading chaptered stories not all at once. So I'll wait. But I'm interested in opinions as well. EDIT: It looks like that. I just love the light work in minori titles. *_*1 point

I assume you're talking about School Days. This is a game that can only be fully appreciated by traversing the various paths through the story and seeing many endings. One of the great things about the Days series is how setting details are scattered throughout the various routes. This is definitely a game that's worth replaying more than once per heroine, especially since many of the most interesting paths involve not being completely devoted to a single heroine. Try following Makoto's gut feeling at each branch point and see where it takes you.1 point

"Interesting" is subjective, they released the game announced and many seemed to have enjoyed it, what with it being in the top 5 sellers at mangagamer for such a long time. They are also seemingly set to announce the next Alicesoft game very soon, probably at Otakon next month. MangaGamer will probably start releasing the Rance series as soon as Alicesoft allows them to. Remember, this is a two-way partnership and both sides need to be willing. Alicesoft are the ones holding back Rance in the west, not MangaGamer.1 point

Shikkoku no Sharnoth - It got me hooked the instant I watched the OP. Top 10 on my VN list. Chaos;Head - You might consider picking this up since it's in the same series as Steins;Gate. Eien no Aselia - Those plot twists, man.1 point

Can somebody please recommed some good Manga to read?
Arcadeotic reacted to DharmaFreedom for a topic
Its okay @LiquidShu, she asked for recommendations and we gave them, mostly in regards to what is wanted [good story with drama]. She can now save all the recommendations and go through them at her own pace. Since Novel21 thanked us, i'm sure she appreciates our efforts . I myself saved some of the manga you guys recommended, I'll be proactive and go through them to find out if it fits my taste or not in my own time [liked a lot of them]. So thanks for the suggestions guys!1 point -
I finally started playing Danganronpa 2 (which I'm sure will make @Eclipsed happy) and am partway into Chapter 2 now. So far... eh. It's fairly entertaining, but it's not really particularly impressing me. It's basically just a retread as of now. They're revealing end-game plot twists from DR1 in chapters 1 and 2 of DR2 so I expect things to take a different direction soon enough, but I wish it didn't drag its feet at the start. Also I'm not digging the "antagonist" revealed in the first class trial, but they still has ample time to do something good with that. Best character so far is easily Chiaki, she's the only one there with a brain. Thank you, that was indeed more recent than the patch I had. Which also wasn't properly linked all this time? Why didn't anyone report that!? Anyway, I ended up just remaking the archive so the system.dat is in the right place to start with and all you need to do is extract it and play.1 point

yeah more or less, i dont understand why they suddenly brought up 'lets date' i dont understand why the MC fell for her so fast feels like cut content1 point -
thanks to @CeruleanGamer having been the more fast one my recommendations are now obsolete. not much to say, just try reading those mentioned above, especially lune bitters has quite the cool lineup. anyway, just in case you´re also looking for sth more archaic, go for bishop´s titles, as they know how to deliver stuff in a good & believable manner. lots of chicks are getting abused/harmed in a sexual manner and it´s mostly none other than your fictional self (mc). almost the same goes for some of lune´s other titles such as jutaijima & fuurinkanzan (GO FUCKING READ THAT ONE!!!). aside from these you might want to look into silky´s jokei kazoku series, you might... edit: ALMOST forgot mentioning isaku´s /shuusaku´s/kisaku´s literary superiority in every possible regard. it´s raw, it´s ugly, it´s archaic urges at their very best - pretty much the genre´s deconstruction par excellence. simply wonderful! edit2: on another note waffle´s yabai! has a certain nostalgic flair about it, you know, that glorious depiction of rape/physical violence as it´s been originally intended, unlike the vanilla-lized travesty it turned into over the past years, like when rape still wasnt sth to be enjoyed , but used for eradicating a peoples body & soul instead. edit3: wouldn´t include the tantaidans in the list of ntr-focused titles by default, simply because there´s way more to the pretty cool series, than its trait of sexual abuse. basically saying you´re going to be dissappointed if that´s the only thing you´re looking forward to. otherwise go for it, it´s well worth the invested time.1 point
