visual novels you consider masterpieces

Ultimate Boob Wars. You get exactly what you're asking for and some more. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about it.3 points -
I'll leave praising and insulting Sharin no Kuni to everyone else here... I only felt the need to mention Tsukihime because people tend to overlook it, despite the fact that it is still some of the best fantasy narrative out there (even if the visuals are as dated as 1980's anime), and I only mentioned Aselia because I was fairly sure it would be left behind due to the somewhat needlessly high difficulty of the battle system. Normally, I don't bother mentioning anything that's been translated, hahaha3 points

With this, I mean VNs you would even group with some of the great novels of the world. For me it would be: Clannad: I mostly mean after story. This VN made me cry more than anything. It is in my eyes a great piece of literature. If my heart had wings: I dunno. The feel, the art. Its all amazing. Its just GOOD. Actually AMAZING. Last but not least homeward: This one man project got me into VNs. Maybe I hold some personal bies, but I love the story, and how sad yet hopeful it is. It is trully amazing and for the price 0.00 I highly recommend it. Anyways thats my list, what VNs do you consider masterpieces?2 points

PSA: A masterpiece is a title within it's genre/(group of stories which share similar styles and objectives) that does what it tries to do very well and/or uniquely. It isn't by any means the end-all-be-all of all VN's.2 points -
Thanks! And yes! I'm posting some updates on my twitter account at the moment, here: https://twitter.com/BloodDaughters I'll post it on this forum too, but less often. Only once I've done a lot of progress.2 points

Howdy, y'all. Mistearea here! Just call me either Mist or Tear, I go by both. Came here mostly because out of everyone I interact with, I'm the only one that really has an interest in VN. ...Granted I did introduce a friend's fiance to the medium a few weeks ago, and she seemed rather interested. Anyways, I'm currently a NEET that is slowly working on a novel while trying to find a job and new games I can try. I can't exactly help with any projects going on, so the most I could ever do is be a supporting type. ...Unless proofreading is still a viable option.1 point

Any Giantess VN's out there.....
john 'mr. customer' smith reacted to Narcosis for a topic
There are, but mostly all of them are fetish-pandering vn's, without any sort of a meaningful story behind. If you're looking for something with an actual plot, you should take a look at Karbo's stuff. Most of characters from his works are elder beings or giantesses (and monster girls to boot), but if you're unable to stomach vore, it might not be precisely right up your valley1 point -
Cyberpunk VN
Chronopolis reacted to Radi for a topic
Hello! First of all, this is my second post (but is like the first one) so I want to say: hey everyone. This web is like a VN paradise, I love it haha I've been working on a Cyberpunk VN for a month, mostly on the script but I have some art already and I wanted to show it to you. Hope you like it. I have a lot more but of couse I can't post it. So, thats the art but I want to talk a bit about the story and all of that, just because this is my first VN and I'm excited about it. As is said on the title the game will have a Cyberpunk/Sci-fi thematic with some soft philosophy on it and a lot of robots. All the protagonists are girls (with a bit of Yuri even if this is not an eroge~) Right now I'm thinking about using TyranoBuilder as engine, because I don't know anything about scripting, I'm not sure if is the best option though. I'm a bit worried about the music and the translation because: even if I have experience drawing and writing, this is my first time composing music so I will upload a couple of tracks in the future and you can tell me if they are any good. And since I'm spanish, I need to translate the script but my english is nowhere near perfect, so I may need help to correct the mistakes I will make translating the script. Thats all for now, I'll gladly answer any questions ;D Thanks everyone for reading me. Cheers.1 point -

Thank you! Easy one, Little Busters! Though I have a few other ones I'd give a perfect score to as well (such as Ever 17, Planetarian, True Rememberance and the latest addition of ENIGMA:), I'd still say that remains my favorite. Thoroughly entertaining and moving all the way. Reading through the routes for the 5th time and beyond, and they still strike home just as hard.1 point -

visual novels you consider masterpieces
Onodera Punpun reacted to Clephas for a topic
It's not really possible to be objective beyond a certain level when it comes to entertainment media. All the ones I named above have a strong impact from at least three of the 'five factors' that most often combine to create a good story in general (quality of narrative, setting and character development, intellectual stimulation, comedic stimulation, and emotional stimulation). Inevitably, there are some genres that don't have a strong emotional stimulus and stories with a strong intellectual stimulus are fairly rare. However, amongst those there are a few that have a strong impact on all five... in particular, I recommend Dies Irae, Evolimit, Bradyon Veda, Semiramis no Tenbin, and Ayakashibito when it comes to hitting all five. For sheer emotional impact, Hapymaher, Komorebi no Nostalgica, Nanairo Reincarnation, and Konakana are the most powerful. For the intellectual, it is definitely Semiramis no Tenbin, Bradyon Veda, Baldr Sky, and Ikusa Megami Zero. Well, in general, that's how I determine whether something is a masterpiece... but quite obviously, I'm picking them from a 'story addict's point of view', so others' viewpoints on this will probably differ.1 point -
It is as good as I said it was in my blog... but no, it isn't the ultimate utsuge I've played. It is great though.1 point

I can probably name more, but these came to mind off the top of my head. Ayakashibito Evolimit Dies Irae Kajiri Kamui Kagura Paradise Lost Vermilion Bind of Blood Tokyo Necro Soukou Akki Muramasa Futagoza no Paradox Haruka ni Aogi, Uruwashi no Eien no Aselia Nanairo Reincarnation Bradyon Veda Ruitomo (and FD) Chrono Belt (best FD ever) Draculius Eden* Tenshi no Hane o Fumanaide! Hapymaher Komorebi no Nostalgica Amatsutsumi Semiramis no Tenbin Satsukoi Grisaia no Kajitsu Harumade, Kururu Konata yori Kanata made Moshimo Ashita ga Harenaraba Mirai Nostalgia Otome ga Tsumugu, Koi no Canvas Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteiru Futari no Elder Sekai de Ichiban Dame na Koi Tsukihime (hopefully eventually the remake will take the place of the original) Tasogare no Sinsemilla Tiny Dungeon (series) Baldr Sky (both series in different ways) Izayoi no Fortuna Minamijuujisei Renka Irotoridori no Sekai Hoshimemo Kami no Ue no Mahoutsukai Kamikaze Explorer (once you get past the ecchi/oppai) Suzunone Seven Suzukaze and Maikaze no Melt Hikoukigumo no Mukougawa (focus on the redhead's path) Sakura, Sakimashita Chuusingura (Japanese version only) Hatsuyuki Sakura Amatsutsumi The Shield 9 series by Axl Tayutama (original only) Rakuen no Shugosha (this is a short masterpiece, but it was still a masterpiece... if an odd one) Re:Birth Colony Sanzen Sekai Yuugi Sekai to Sekai no Mannaka de Tsuki ni Yorisou, Otome no Sahou (again, original only) Shin Koihime Musou Strawberry Feels Toppara Gunjou no Sora wo Koete Ikusa Megami Zero Edit: A masterpiece can look rough, even if it is godly at the core, lol.1 point -

I second both Narcissu and Clannad, Clannad being my absolutely top vn right now for having such amazing characters especially in the after story, never had i been attached to any character like in Clannad. i would also add Swan Song in there. i am reading Ever17 now and so far it is good, maybe i will add it to the list1 point

I would never consider any VN a masterpiece because nothing is ever perfect. The closest a VN has gotten to that though is Ever17, but it still had a few problems with it.1 point -

I'm still puzzled by why people are soo pessimistic on upcoming anime nowadays. Granted I have only been watching new anime for the past 2-3 years, but I have consistently found at the very least four to five shows per season that I actively enjoy.1 point -
Clannad Licensed by Sekai Project Clannad is a Japanese Visual Novel created by the company Key which is known for its other titles such as Air and Kanon. Clannad, unlike its predecessors, does not contain any adult content but instead, focuses on the relationships between the characters. Story Clannad's story revolves around Tomoya Okazaki, a third year high school student who dislikes his life. Tomoya's mother (Atsuko) died when Tomoya was young, leaving his father (Naoyuki) to raise him. After the accident, Tomoya's father turned to alcohol and gambling, and held frequent fights with his son. One day, Naoyuki, again arguing with his son, slammed Tomoya against the wall, dislocating Tomoya's shoulder. Ever since then, his father has treated Tomoya nicely, but distantly, as if Tomoya and he were strangers rather than a family. This hurts Tomoya more than his previous relationship with his father, and the awkwardness of returning home leads Tomoya constantly to stay out all night. Additionally, the injury disables Tomoya from participating in his basketball club, and pushes him to distance himself from his school and other activities. Thus his delinquent life begins. Tomoya's good friend Youhei Sunohara, who got thrown out of the soccer club for a dispute, is also a delinquent and often hangs out in his dorm room with Tomoya doing nothing much. Suggested Walkthrough Order!! Ending Guide The '*' marked choices are the essential ones. For any other choice you can choose what you want for different dialogues. The number inside the square brackets "[]" tells you the number of the choice (So [2] would be choice 2). ***School Life Routes*** Sagara Misae: Sakagami Tomoyo: Miyazawa Yukine Fujibayashi Ryou Fujibayashi Kyou Hiiragi Kappei Sunohara Siblings Ichinose Kotomi Ibuki Fuko Toshio Koumura Furukawa Nagisa After Story ************************************************************ A Guide to the Minigames within Clannad Yukine's storage room curse In Yukine's route there are 'spell games' that you can play on the 23rd and 24th of April. There are many different variations to the storage curse. Here is the list of Characters you can have fun with!! Furukawa Nagisa Furukawa Akio! Sakagami Tomoyo Fubayashi Kyou Sagare Misae Ibuki Fuko Doki Doki High School Sometimes you are prompt to read manga or play a ‘Doki Doki High School’ mini game. Check here for guide!! Possibilities for Sunohara's Girlfriend In Mei Sunohara's route you'll have to find Sunohara a girlfriend. You'll end up with Sanae in the end no matter what but here are some other fun options. Prank list for Fuko Throughout the Ibuki Fuko route you can play pranks on Fuko but here are some things you'll have to pay attention to. 3v3 Basketball Partners During Nagisa and Toshio's route, there is a 3v3 Basketball Minigame where you can select your teammates. You can have different partners other than Tomoyo and Kyou. Here's a detailed walkthrough for how to get each character: Attention: Fubayashi Ryou, Ibuki Yukine and Furukawa Nagisa as partner will result in a loss, giving you the Bad End. Sagare Misae Yoshio Yusuke Furukawa Akio! Fubayashi Ryou Fubuki Fuko Miyazawa Yukine Furukawa Nagisa Baseball Fun This is a fun route with Akio and other characters! It is possible to see the laser tag game with other options, but if you don't meet the criteria for the baseball scene, you will get a bad end immediately after the tag game. There are multiple outcomes to the baseball game, but these choices result in winning. Jet Saito There is a way you can cause Jet Saito to appear in two different places. The first few choices are the same, and split off once you decide where you want to see him. It's a one line cameo, but this is about the most random thing you'll ever see. Scenes to Replay Some scenes have various versions to it that you can play it again and find new items! Things include This walkthrough is taken from the Animesuki Forum and the 300 hour Clannad Guide, with minor changes/improvements added by me.1 point
