Do any of you use a spreadsheet or something similar to keep track of you list?
Dergonu and one other reacted to Red_Rain77 for a topic
Hey guys, for the past couple of years, I've been using VNDB to keep track of what I've read but recently I've created a spreadsheet for everything I read, watch & play and now I'm wondering if anyone has done anything similar. For Visual Novels I have two different sheets that I use (all contained in one master sheet), one contains games that I've read and the other that I plan to read. The sheet for games that I've read contains the following cells: Title | Routes Completed | Status | Rating | Date Started | Date Last Played | Time Invested | Notes I use date last played instead of date finished just in case I don't finish the game. And the sheet for ones that I plan to read contains these cells: Title | Planned Release | Quick Search The quick search cell contains an auto-generated link based on the first cell that searches my favourite torrent site for the title. The sheet originally took me a while to set up but now that it finished it only takes me seconds to update it with new games as I play them. So what about you guy/girls? do any of you a spreadsheet or something similar to keep track of what your reading?2 points -

Yeah, I guess these are all the things that summed up in my mind as this game's "wholesomeness". There's also something to appreciate with how the heroines behave (at least the classmates, the principal route has a very different dynamic for obvious reasons), quickly noticing something's off but respecting protagonist's privacy, at worst pushing him a bit to come clean. This really is such a weird game for Dharker, of all people, to make. The sequel also has a little bit of these qualities, but damn, that game is just wasted potential incarnate. Great concept, characters, art... And all put together in a weirdly unsatisfying manner. At least the sheer incompetence of that fell more like something Dharker would do. ...1 point -

So, I played a route in Highschool Romance and... I really really like it! I had an inkling that any trap protagonists that aren't in a nukige will, by necessity, fit into my tastes, but I really like Shoji! He basically fits this Once he gets used to the idea, after the first week or so, he becomes able to casually interact with everybody. And, unlike normal protagonists, he isn't constantly thinking about people's bodies or sex. Wonderful! In one of the common route paths a female friend fell asleep on his shoulder and he ended up going to sleep too. Do you know how much I love having a protagonist that doesn't go "I-I can't sleep." "I didn't sleep that night because my friend from school was sleeping over." Urgh, horrible. (He's also smooth as h*ck once he knows somebody is interested in him but that's an aside)1 point -
Hey, welcome!! Aside from what Plk_Lesiak recommended, there's this discord server from https://visual-novel.info/, they are pretty active. That hard stuff you are going through: try to keep being positive even if it's hard Hope it gets better for you and make many good friends. I'm pretty socially awkward myself but I'll pm you my discord in case you wanna talk about VNs and anime1 point

I'd say VNDB is my spreadsheet. It gives an easy look at what I've read and what I haven't, and in case I don't remember the VN it has some captures of it, and the characters, usually enough to remember.. Pretty much all I need1 point

Nah, VNDB and MAL are enough for me. Especially when I read so much small stuff, it'd be pain in the ass to track it individually. On the other hand, I sometimes get paranoid that the archive will go down and I'll lose all my data, but I'm too lazy to do anything about it (I don't think there's away to export it conveniently?).1 point -
Please Help Looking for Social Groups
nenesya reacted to Plk_Lesiak for a topic
Discord really seems to be the place nowadays. /visualnovels subreddit has a really active server, there's also probably like hundreds connected to particular shows/VNs etc. The communication there is also way more relaxed than on forums, so it's easier to get to know people - probably won't find a better way to socialise with other otaku online.1 point -
A few days ago I watched an anime about a series of child murders. The show was pretty solid except for the fact that I was able to correctly guess the culprit the moment the show established that they were going to be more than just a minor character. Was it because the show was really bad at foreshadowing? No, except for one scene where the protagonist casually mentions that the culprit could be someone he knows. Was the character behaving suspiciously? No, they were cooperative to the point of actively sabotaging the murder attempts. Then what did they do wrong to earn my suspicions right from the beginning? Be a grown male authority figure with a more or less friendly relationship to the young protagonist without being related to them by blood. I'm relatively new to anime and visual novels*, and I've already seen characters fitting this description turn out to be villainous to varying degrees in about ten different titles (in one of them even twice within a few chapters).** Some of these guys are just being forced into doing something shady because of unfortunate circumstances while some them are psychopathic monsters because the writers liked themselves some shock value. Sometimes they are only minor villains or even red herrings, sometimes they are the big bad. What most of them have in common is that they at least pretend to be helping the protagonist out to the best of their abilities while secretly using the information they get from their conversations against them. I found only one example where the character in question is female, and even then the same twist happens another time with the male one being the major villain (#feminism I guess?). I get why this trope is popular with writers. The culprit should be someone who has been introduced early on and appeared in a reasonable amount of scenes for their reveal not to come out of nowhere. They should be an adult to have the necessary physical, mental and financial capabilities to properly commit and cover up a crime. Having a close relationship with the protagonist is a good justification for giving them enough scenes in a story that mostly revolves around younger characters. Add to that the betrayal of the protagonist's trust and you have everything for a good dark twist. So in theory "the nice adult is actually a murderer" can be a very effective trope if well implemented, it's just so overused it lost most of its its element of surprise, at least to me. I suspect that the writers of some of the titles I consumed were aware of this, but instead of not utilizing the trope they took the "let's add shock value by making the bad guy psychopatically evil" route, which is something that rarely turns out well, even if you add in discussions about the nature of psychopathy. I would really love to give examples of cases where I either really liked or really hated the implementation of this trope to add a bit more substance to my rambling. But I have no idea how to discuss plot twists when even mentioning the title of the game means spoiling them, so this will have to do. *This twist isn't exclusive to Japanese media. For example two of the first four Harry Potter books utilize it and I played one well known western storytelling game that does as well. **I even went through my vndb profile and made a list to confirm this. The reason I don't share it here is obviously spoilers.1 point

On average, the estimated time to delivery (ETD) is 255 days. On average, the actual time to delivery (ATD) for companies that already delivered is 633 days. On average, the tardiness in delivery (tdd) for companies that already delivered is 401 days. The slowest company (taking into account realized deliveries) is Frontwing, with an ATD of 716 days and tdd of 532 days. Despite this, their ETD is 150 days, with games from 2016 and 2017 yet to be delivered. Optimistic much? I was bored, so here's a pie chart...1 point

Wow, i've read this vn when the patch just come out or sometime after that, didn't finish the common route and just dropped this vn because i think the team had died or that there's no update and my english was rather bad at the time so i didn't really get the story >.<, but after 3/4 years or more suddenly this vn popped up in vndb and i decided to check it up and bam, the translation is still going apparently XD. i'll be sure to pick it up again when the patch comes out later, good luck with the translation, godspeed1 point -
I decided to rewatch Princess Tutu, and my god, this anime is good! Actually, I remember being completely weirded out and skeptical for the first several episodes when I watched it the first time, but now it actually feels amazing from the very beginning. Definitely a must-watch, unless you have very specific taste in anime.1 point

Just watched the 2nd Heaven's Feel movie...and wow. It is exquisite. Superb. Awesome. Splendid visuals. Also...the way Sakura was rendered in a certain scene, well, lets just say that kind of appeal at that kind of proximity in real life you'd explode. Just off the charts.1 point -
