  2. Hi! I'm Alanna - I'm the Founder of Toadhouse Games, a visual novel indie game studio. I'm also the person who ran the Palestinian Aid itch.io bundle this year, I speak at conventions about mental wellness and gaming, particularly visual novels, and I've been lurking here for a bit and finally feel brave enough to make an account and say hi. I adore visual novels, have been reading/playing them since 1997 or thereabouts, and am looking forward to getting to know all of you better. Have a great day!

    What are you playing?

I think the main issue is that it's usually just straight up porn in most cases. If it's done right, sex scenes can add depth to characters and their relationships, but titles that manage to pull that off are pretty rare.

I got burned on previous Maruto's titles - especially by final h-scene in Folklore Jam, but I found scenes in Parfait or Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku o also to be rather detracting from the game's overall quality - all-ages versions were better and more consistent for me. So while his character and relationship writing is great, I don't trust him on ero stuff In each case it felt like something added because "PC VN has to be eroge".

  5. Yeah, I get what you mean. Back when I started reading VNs, I read h-scenes in their entirety because I wouldn't want to risk missing out on anything story related, but there's usually nothing even remotely noteworthy in them so I just skip past most of them nowadays. I can imagine there being a few scenes that are worthwhile in White Album 2 though, so I might pay more attention there.

I also have WA2 on my backlog, but since I'm going for all-ages version (PS3), no translation for me Actually, when I think about it, recently I switched almost completely to playing VNs in Japanese. I never thought that would actually happen The last VN I read in English was World End Syndrome (because text-hooking from the Switch emulator was impossible back then) in February, and before that, Making Lovers in June 2020. I have two weeks off starting next week (basically to the end of the year), but I don't think I will go with White Album 2 for my next read. First I have to finish Damekoi. And then, on the 24th of December Yuzusoft releases PC port of their all-ages version of Tenshin Ranman (previously available only for PSP) - and I think I will read either that or '&' - Sora no Mukou de Sakimasu you ni - (PS3 version). I'm becoming more and more of an "All-ages junkie" I'll read an eroge every now and then (when there's no good all-ages version available), but more often than not I find the H-scenes in eroges I read a turn off - either because they are just generic porn scenes featuring porn stunt doubles of the characters from the VN, or because of their jarring placement (or both )

Damn, it hit you hard, huh? Glad to hear you're back on track! I haven't started any new VNs since my last post here. I'm basically just waiting for the White Album 2 translation to finish, which should be any day now according to the project updates. I really hope there won't be any delays, since I have time off from work until the second week of January, making this the perfect time to take on a longer read.

Since I caught covid at 7th November, I had almost six weeks long break in reading. Recently I finally almost fully recovered, and so I resumed reading Damekoi PSP. Currently I'm at 13th chapter and going for (or actually already almost entered) Asami's route. While I had some complaints at the beginning of the game, it gets better and better as it goes, and as I got used to it. I'm loving how the relationship between Osamu and Asami is portrayed, and I'm really rooting for them. Let's see how it unfolds.

  9. bruh no spoilers in the thread title. should call it G-senjou no maou ending question or something edit: to answer your question, I don't think there's an official answer. Some JP person guessed 春菜 (haruna), as it's similiar to usami haru.

  11. Easily the best Venus Blood game, story-wise and gameplay-wise. Not to mention the protagonist and main heroine have an insanely strong personal bond that makes you really root for them, though they are evil.

  12. After parsing through so many confusing threads and websites, I finally figured it out. I couldn't find a thorough guide that actually helped my situation, so I'm going to record all of my steps here in case other frustrated newbies in search of answers happen to stumble upon this thread. Hopefully they won't have to dig through multiple threads with vague answers and/or random websites in Mandarin. *Note: This guide assumes that the game you are working with is not encrypted, the scenario files are .ks and not .scn, the language you are translating the game into has characters that are supported by Shift-JIS, your locale is set to Japanese, etc. Translating Kirikiri Games: A Step-by-step Guide Tools needed: A game, KrkrExtract, Notepad++ Install KrkrExtract.exe and KrkrExtract.dll to the game directory. Other files in the folder should include data.xp3 and the game's executable file (game_name.exe), as well as savedata and plugin folders. Drag the game's executable file to KrkrExtract.exe to launch it. It should launch both the game and KrkrExtract. Drag the data.xp3 file to KrkrExtract window. You do not need to mess with any of the settings or press any of the buttons. It should automatically create a new folder in the game directory called KrkrExtract_Output. Within this folder should be a folder called data. Remove the data.xp3 file from the game directory. You can move it to another folder elsewhere on your PC, or just delete it. Remove the data folder from the KrkrExtract_Output folder and place it directly into the game directory. The KrkrExtract_Output folder should be empty now, so you can delete it. Open the data folder. Somewhere within the folder, likely in another folder named scenario, there should be several files with the .ks extension. Depending on the game, you may only have a few files, or you may have more than thirty. You may have to sift through the files, but eventually you should find the script for the game (or the beginning of the game, if the script is divided into multiple .ks files.) Open this file in Notepad++. In Notepad++, on the top ribbon, there is a tab labelled Encoding. Make sure that it is set to Character sets > Japanese > Shift-JIS. You should be able to view the text of the game in Japanese. Nothing should look garbled. Replace the Japanese text with the translation in your target language. Once you're finished, simply save the file. You should be able to launch the game and see your translated text. Do not try to repackage the data folder. If you attempt to repackage the data folder, it will give you a script error. Just leave it alone. According to the KrkrExtract readme file, you should (keyword: should) be able repackage the script files and save it as patch.xp3 for easier distribution, but that absolutely did not work in my case. It repeatedly gave me a script error. It was easier to just directly modify the data files. If this can save even one soul from the pain and frustration I felt, then making this guide was not a waste of time. Good luck to anyone that's crazy brave enough to try doing this without any prior experience or basic understanding of how computers work (like I did lol)
