Hi Jun! Nice to meet you, senpai XD I followed you on twitter :3

Hey there fellow female! That's awesome that you want to create your own vn~ Also, there are plenty of projects out there looking for translators who would probably love to make use of your skills. If you can find a nice, welcoming group it could be a great place to practice and gain confidence

Hi & welcome! I see you're a Key fan.. have you seen the anime versions of Kanon and Clannad? Keep working on your own vn! It's always great for new creativity & ideas to be brought to the community.

Haven't read all the responses yet, so this is just my answer to the first post For me, romance isn't necessary at all. I just like a good story, particularly of the horror/mystery variety. However, when it IS a romance story, I like to have H-scenes there (this kind of ties into the 'are H scenes necessary' post!). Just 'cos I get kind of bored if it's just a romance with no erm.. payoff XD

Hi and welcome would love to see some vids from you, please share them when you make them! You could make a thread in the vn discussion forum, I think it would be appropriate there.

Hi and welcome! Ah, Planetarian was a real tear-jerker! I really liked it too, thought it was a beautiful story.

Would grouping games by studio be a possibility? Or would that just make things messier?

I've never been in the UK but I've been to Comic City Osaka, and to Comiket in Japan. They were pretty awesome, but so huge (especially Comiket) that you really have to plan What booths you want to visit before you go or you'll never get to them. I mostly bought doujinshi from my favourite circles. Also people seem to keep to themselves so I didn't get to chat with anyone, but then again I was also keeping to myself! I'll be going to Comiket again next month, can't wait. gonna drag my boyfriend along who's not into any of this stuff, it'll be quite hilarious. XD

The Shibuya branch is awesome, but it's so bizarre going down all the stairs with the strobe lighting haha. Also I recommend the Ikebukuro branch (Otome Road) for anyone into BL or otome games, as all their stock is aimed at women . They have loads of BL games that can be quite hard to get hold of usually.

I love living here It depends what sort of visa you're looking to get as to how strict it is. It's easy to get a working holiday visa so you can stay for a year, but it becomes more difficult if you want to stay long-term. However, I've got full-time employment with a Japanese employer, so they sponsor my visa Nice collection!! Yeah older or incomplete vn are sooo cheap.. I always seem to want the newest ones though >_< Look out for a post from me soon about ordering service~ Here in Japan there are a number of stores where you can take your games back when you've finished with them. You get a small fee, and they sell them on second hand. It's a great way to buy games, because a lot of people keep them in perfect condition, or if they are not in good condition or incomplete like the ones Sakamoto got, you can get them really cheap. I got my games this month from Mandarake, it's a chain that sells second hand games, figures, anime, manga, doujinshi etc. It's an otaku paradise XD (Also, I'll get more photos up soon, promise!)

So, after finishing the Canvas 2 VN I decided to watch the anime

How are they different? And which do you prefer, or do you like them about the same but in different ways? I quite like it when adaptations are different to the original as it means I'm not just experiencing the same story all over again albeit in a different medium. Although of course I only like it when they change things in a good way, not like Moekou's example. -
Yeah, I just moved to Japan last month, so I got these from a store (second hand) I'm JLPT N1 level, but I still have to play games with my dictionary on hand, and I use it way more than I would like >_< Not yet! I'm too busy with work and apartment hunting at the moment I have time to buy, but not to play haha. How is Tsujidou so far?? Yeah sure, I'll do that tonight! These aren't special editions or anything, so I warn you the insides are really boring A bit off topic, but since I'm living in Japan for at least the next few years I was thinking of possibly starting some sort of vn ordering service, just here within the Fuwan community. I'd charge for the game + shipping + a very small (fixed or percentage) handling fee. If that's something people would be interested in then I'll have a think about the details a bit more & make a separate post.

I have a bad habit of buying way more vn/eroge than I can play or afford. Here's my haul for the start of the month~ Shiawase Kazoku-bu Tsujidou-san no Jun'ai Road Kanon - Standard Edition

Currently playing a light-hearted BL game called みらくるのーとん. The summary on vndb pretty much sums it up: "Protagonist Ogata Akira finds a magical living notebook that can grant any wish he writes in it. But there’s a catch: only horny wishes work. So begins Akira’s days of homoerotic wish writing…." Yeah, that's basically it.. just a nukige for girls & I'm not gonna try and pretend otherwise XD I bought it cos the art is by Yura, one of my fave illustrators, and it hasn't disappointed~

Me too me too XD Wish I had a PSP..

I am one of those who discovered vn by being a horny teenager, but was hooked because of the stories, art, and so on AS WELL AS the H scenes. For me, I like H scenes in vn because they can be sweet as well as erotic, and because they are provided in context. Most porn is just random sex without any narrative, the same with hentai, which also often isn't that great to look at in terms of art. I like that vn provide sex within a story, and because of the style of the genre you get to know the character, and feel close to them. I'm sure that this is a huge appeal for a lot of the young Japanese men who play these games, and one of the reasons why the majority of vn include sex scenes (so in this sense, H scenes are probably seen as a 'necessity' in commercial terms). As I wrote earlier, I don't really want vn to be divided between 'porn' games and 'story' games - I like to have ones that include both. That being said, I enjoy vn both with & without H scenes, and like others have said I definitely do think there are some cases where the H scenes actually spoil the story. Anyway, this is just my personal opinion. I kind of feel like I'm in the minority in finding H scenes to be one of the appeals of vn, which is surprising! But I really enjoy discussions like this, where I get to see other people's perspectives, and their reasons for playing vn.

Wow, this is great, really handy! I'll keep using it, and let you know if I encounter any bugs or have any suggestions

Halloween's really popular in Japan recently.. but it was a weekday, so I and my friends were working and didn't do anything (I need my sleep so I couldn't go out in the evening!) Maybe next year!

Shit Translators—You're trashing my favourite stories!
meru replied to a topic in Fan Translation Discussion
This this this. I feel the same when people say a movie adaptation 'ruins' the original book. No - the original is still there. Just view the movie as some kind of 'alternate universe' (i.e. a derivative work). Regarding rating translations, I'm not sure. On the one hand, it would definitely help people looking to play vn make decisions about what to play, and how to interpret what they are playing. On the other hand, I fear it could lead to a sense of elitism, which is exactly what Fuwa tries to avoid. Maybe I'm just being overly pessimistic, but I can see it becoming a kind of hierarchy, which would push out the 'not as good' translators and not give them the chance to improve.. -
Hello from one of the gals! ^_~ I loved Katawa Shoujo too, especially Hanako! But also Emi~ Oh and Lilly... and.. all of them really haha.
