  1. Completing VN translation alone is pretty much impossible. Each stage is thousands of work hours, and even for very good teams it takes up to year to translate single game.
  2. In most of the cases extraction is done with project-specific tools developed by project engineer. Unless you already have experience with tools like IDAPro, its easier for you to just ask for help someone who has. Obviously there are no "standardized methods". But proficient translators use only text files with script, as its fastest way. Format depends on the project, some use filtered strings lists, that only contain JP lines and EN translations, some use original scripts. Typical project goes in 4 stages: TL, editing, TLC, QC. TLC checks that edited lines accurately represent original JP lines.
  3. Its explained in detail. Did you finish all routes? There are two ends for each heroine.
  4. Having sex qualifies as "interested" for me.
  5. MLE + MLU + MLA together is about 100 hours. Extra is about 20 hours (30k lines IIRC).
  6. Same here, its the only novel I've rated 10/10. Although I would not agree on some points you listed. Single interest? Harems ftw (BTW, there WAS harem in Saya, so you cannot say he had single love interest). Gameplay is good thing, but it should not be burden. Good gameplay that actually enhances the story — Kamidori. Happy endings > sad endings. Although sad endings are still better than stupid endings like G-Senjou and MLA. Year after finishing MLA, I'm still annoyed by its ending, such a great job ruining almost perfect game last moment.
  7. Modern Tsundere (the ones which are in almost every VN nowadays) and classic, true Tsundere are different things, tho. Classic ones are uncommon.
  8. Generally I like gameplay elements, but sometimes it actually hurts experience: - Aselia — doing other routes is truly annoying due to unskippable and very repetitive gameplay. Even if you cheat and raise your chars levels to 99, its still VERY burdensome to walk around that huge map. - KnS — same thing, unskippable gameplay made it hard to play all routes. My thoughts upon getting True End were "ugh, finally done with it, no more same damn map movement lookups". - DBBA, Sengoku Rance and pretty much every other AliceSoft game — severe time limit. I hate time limits. Esp. when there's no way you could do all quests/side heroines in said limit. Also, puzzle mini-games are most stupid thing you could add to VN.
  9. Here are plenty of projects which are looking for additional translators and translation checkers. You can just join one of them. If you need help with some other VN based on YU-RIS engine, PM me and I'll set up everything for you.
  10. If you want to try tl it again, I can set up project with decrypted files (in fact, I already have them, and some are even translated), altho its pointless since MG considers licensing it. Besides, 37k lines is A LOT, and will take ages for single TL.
  11. Its not hard, and definitely not "most complex". I've hacked it in 2012, to TL euphoria, and have full set of tools, including scripts (.ybn files) decompiler/compiler. I'll publish them some time later this year, when I get alpha version of my PyVNTrans software working. Eushully's AGE and age's rUGP are much more hard. Well, latter isn't "hard", just very hard to work with due to be huge single file. Takes ages to test each little change.
  12. As with any other VN-based OVA, it has nothing to do with original title except "kinda similar" setting and cast. Judging about Euphoria by OVA is same, as judging about KnS by OVA.
  13. How is it even possible to mess up your install? I have about 400 VNs in my digital collection, and never managed to fsck up installation even when doing hacking/tl'ing/exctraction (because "backup everything" is first skill you should learn as software engineer and esp. reverse-engineer). Accessing VN's from desktop icon or torrent is weird way to do it. Just keep them properly sorted on the drive and there will be no problems. I actually delete all shortcuts from desktop that these annoying installers create. I like prepatched more for two things — they take less space (no need to keep both iso and installed game) and they stay on my physical drive instead VM image (sure its possible to move it after installing, but its additional PITA).
  14. I'm waiting for translation or my jp skills becoming good enough, whichever comes first. Although from what I know, AF isn't that good, its just extra with more characters.
  15. MLE is just backstory of MLA, so feel free to scroll past boring stuff if it doesn't entertain you. You will understand that it was worth the effort to read MLE when you get to certain points of MLA.
  16. Did you try contacting the group which works on english tl? Usually groups are willing to share tools.
  17. You can check completed projects at VNTLS, it should give you quite accurate picture about typical translations.
  18. He's busy with his job, but replies to emails. Plus we got some other TLs, so project is slow, but definitely not dead.
  19. Worst titles for me: http://vndb.org/v1451 — this was so bad that I didn't even reach H-scene before dropping it. Absolutely, totally hate both Protag and MH. http://vndb.org/v3457 — well, this is pretty much universally acclaimed as the worst nukige in existence. I don't remember what exactly ticked me off tho. http://vndb.org/v7096 — great concept with too bad execution. Gameplay is beyond bad, H-scenes are horrible. No idea why it is even listed on VNDB, as there are tons of h-games on rpgmaker engine which have better story/dialogues/h-scenes/chars/CG/everything else and they are not listed despite vn-style narration.
  20. I can make proper patch out of it if you want.
  21. Cryska story is about I didn't read other TDA stories (there are more in other Chronicles volumes), but in TDA00 yeah, there's mainly new cast, MLA guys are briefly featured at the very end.
  22. RD, CD, TDA00, Cryska are not related to each other, you can read them in any order. Except for TDA, these stories do not feature characters from MLU/MLA, so they are just stories in same setting/timeline as MLA.
  23. Oh, I actually had similar thoughts recently, but with idea to make it inside game. So it would show you jp string (optionally with furigana/romaji), then it would show you literal word by word translation, and then literature translation. I was thinking about taking apart some already translated VN, but yeah, someone with GOOD knowledge of japanese is still needed for this kind of project.
  24. The one I've tried to read was horrible. But I've heard it was updated since then.
