  1. The stories in VNs are rarely all that good. Having that 18+ content is pretty much my driving force to keep reading. If I'm in the mood for a good story and good character development I'll reading a novel or a light novel. Also the original version of this VN was 18+. There was no all age version for the PC version. They went and cut content from the PC version because they thought it would sell better in the rest of the world. I'm hoping that by not getting it I can prove this thought wrong. Though to be honest even if the original didn't have 18+ content I still wouldn't get it. What VNs have that the other other mediums(manga, anime, light novels) don't have is a better balance of story and 18+ content. If you read an H-manga there is sex in every chapter and the story is just an excuse to have that H-content. Same with H-anime. As for H-light novels I've never read one which likely means there aren't any good ones worth translating.

  2. There are 2 things in particular that keep me away from OELVN, lack of 18+ content and lack of voice acting. Until OELVN can get both of these I'm just not interested in them. Another problem I find with them is the visual style. Many of them have art styles that are to far off from a more traditional japanese anime art style. I'm not looking for a unique art style I'm looking for pretty girls.  The next issue I have with OELVN is there length. I like my VNs to be at least 20 hours long. These are just my personal opinions though. The 1st 2 issues I listed are my biggest problems though. 18+ content AND voice acting or bust.

    there are "unique" mmorpg's?

    I don't know if I would go so far as to call Guild Wars 2 unique. But it does manage to differentiate itself from the hordes of other MMOs. The game actually rewards exploration which is something few MMOs do. Most of the field maps have a hidden jump puzzle on them for you to find. The field maps feature meta events that pop up commonly for you to participate in if you want. Completing or failing to complete some of them can cause new events to pop up. There is one where a large amount of centaurs attack a town. Failing to defend it will cause an event to retake it to appear. There are some more traditional features like dungeons. Though even these have a bit of a spin on them. Each dungeon has a story mode and an exploration mode. In exploration the party can make a choice which will change the path you take in the dungeon and have different objectives you need to complete.

  4. For free to play games I mainly play Osu! and Smite. Been playing them both for some years now. Osu! is a free music rhythm game with an active community and new beatmaps are released daily by the community. It does have multiplayer and solo play.  There is a wide variety of music genres available. I personally like to play anime and visual novel OPs and EDs. The game is completely free though you can donate for some extra in game features that aren't really essential such as an in game beatmap downloader instead of downloading them from their web site. Smite is a free to pay moba that is played from the 3rd person instead of top down. You have to actually aim your attacks and abilities which makes it a lot more interesting IMO. It isn't pay to win but you have to unlock characters slowly over time or you can pay $30 to unlock all current characters and all future ones. I personally just unlocked them over time. Both games I have put over 1000 hours into. Only other game I play that can be called free to play is Guild Wars 2. Though there are restrictions on free to play accounts. You can purchase the expansion to have these restrictions removed. Some of the restrictions are only 2 character slots on your account, no access to Auction House, less slots for equipping bags, and being unable to trade with other players. Fortunately the expansion doesn't increase the level cap so you don't have to worry about being lower level then people with the expansion.

  5. I played this for a few hours and found it to be somewhat enjoyable. Unfortunately it's a generic on rails quest grind. It did however get me back into play Guild Wars 2. More MMOs need to learn from GW2. Not everyone wants to chase ! and ?. In fact I'm sure most people are sick of it.

  6. I'm currently playing Tsuushinbo ~Mama ni mo Naisho no Jikanwari~ in Visual Novel Reader. Not too far into yet so can't really say too much about it. I did enjoy Marble Candy Soft last VN Kakurenbo ~Futari Dake no Himitsu no Jikan~. No its wasn't a great VN but if you have the right fetish you'll probably enjoy it ;)

  7. This doesn't surprise me at all. The VN industry has become dominated by generic moege VNs. If you look at the top selling manga of 2015 in Japan http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2015-05-31/top-selling-manga-in-japan-by-series-2015/.88770 you'll notice something. There are VERY FEW moe type mangas in it. I'm sure even in Japan many are getting sick of the typical school setting harems. They need to try create more original and interesting settings and stories. You'll also notice many of the series in the top selling mangas are shounens which feature lots of action and characters that get stronger throughout the series. There aren't too many VNs that do this. If the VN industry doesn't stop making copy paste moege VNs they will slowly die out. They need a more balanced cast of characters. Not 1 or 2 male characters and a million female characters.

  8. I'm still hoping for this project. Don't let some arrogant whiners ruin your motivation. If you do decide to drop it I'd appreciate it if you would at least release what you have done so far. I'll at least get to read it partially with good translations. The rest would be good ol visual novel reader and machine translations...

  9. My 1st was Kana ~Imouto~ back when I was in high school a good 10 years ago. I really enjoyed it cried like baby when I read it my 1st time. I didn't read another VN after it though for some years. I eventually read G-senjou no Maou and Muv Luv Alternative. It was these 2 VNs that really got me into VNs and since them I've read VNs fairly commonly. Unfortunately I still haven't read anything I would consider to be better than them,

  10. Why aren't people this excited when I translate moege GODDD

    If it makes you feel better I'm looking for to Clover Day's just as much as this. What keeps me from looking forward to Clover Day's more is the lack of a true loli heroine. Anri is a B-cup which keeps her from being a true loli in my book.

    Reminiscence has battle of the wits to help make up for its lack of a true loli... In short, next time you start a moege make sure it has a true loli ;)

  11.

    Trap Protagonist - I like me a good trap. Also VO is a must.
    Blood-related Sister Heroine - Cause who doesn't like.
    Twin Tails - I like the hairstyle on my anime people.
    White Haired Heroine - ::
    Built-in Flowchart

    While I have no interest in yaoi by itself, but if it's a trap(preferably a shota) then I am all game. The only trap VN I have fully read though is Josou Kaikyou. Blood-related Sister Heroine is the best kind of incest IMO.

  12. @Soulless Watcher

    Forbidden romance is enjoyable to read :D

    Gameplay is always nice gets my gamer side all riled up. Sounds like you're a fan of the rance games.

    I was actually debating with myself to add pregnancy but I didn't want to have a bunch fetish

    Can't agree with last tag though, but that's just me and not liking to see relationships end

    @LinovaA

    I am liking you're list a lot of good stuff. Wish there were more utsuge and nakige VNs translated into english.

    @sanahtlig

    Nice list would be nice to see more sim VNs there are just so few of them and even fewer in english. I'm surprised by how many people seem to like netorare. I guess there is a reason they are so common. Still don't care for it though.

  13. I've been seeing a fair amount of favorite based topics and decided to start one of my own. As most of you should know VNDB has a great tag system that makes it very easy to find VNs with whatever you're looking for. I'd like to hear what some of your favorite tags are and why. Some of my favorites are...

    Life and Death Drama

    -I like knowing that not all characters are safe from death. Typically when a VN has this tag I know that I'm not gonna get some happy go lucky carefree moege, which is a big plus for me not that I hate moege VNs. Sadly there doesn't seem to be a lot of VNs that have this tag nowadays. Only 13 VNs came out in 2014 with this tag which is a massive disappointment.

    Incest

    -Firstly I will say I do have 2 younger sisters, but I have no interest in engaging in such activities with this. One of the things I like about this tag is a gives a different kind of drama than a typical romance story. Commonly the characters have to try and hide their relationship and should they be found have to try and find a way to deal with it. This creates some enjoyable moments as the 2 characters try to maintain relationships with themselves and others.

    Loli Heroine

    -This is more of a fetish in my case what can I say they are just to damn kawaii.

    Pragmatic Protagonist

    -I love having main characters like this. Anime, VNs, Manga, and such have become over saturated with idiotic and incompetent main characters. I like main characters that are smart, capable, and a bit cold at least in the beginning. Pragmatic character tend to change throughout the course of a VN and become a bit more caring which is nice to see. I don't know about you guys but I love me some character development.

    Battle of Wits

    -Sadly this tag is very rarely seen anymore. Only 3 VNs in 2014 came out with this tag. I really enjoy seeing 2 capable characters battle it out witch each using their brains and not their bronze. Animes such as Death Note and Code Geass have shown that this tag has a lot of mainstream appeal which really disippoints me that we don't see many VNs using this.

    Trapped

    -I think this tag becomes even better when paired up with life and death drama. I enjoy reading about 2 or more characters being trapped in one way or another and they have to try work together to escape. Obviously working together rarely works out well which results and some very fun situations.

    Thriller

    -Once again a tag I don't see much of, though based on VNDBs listing it seems more of this genre is being made this year than last. I hope this trend continues as who doesn't like getting thrilled? I enjoy being excited and constantly wondering what will happen next and thrillers do this the best.

  14. For me my favorite would be Muv Luv Alternative. The setting and world building were great. If you do decide to read it though I highly recommend playing Muv Luv Extra and Muv Unlimited first. You only need to go through the 2 main routes of Extra to unlock Unlimited and playing through 1 route of Unlimited is fine. I feel like Muv Luv Alternative just has a lot more impact if your read them first. They are no where near as good as Alternative, but if you can make amazing even more amazing, why not?

    Runner up goes to G-Senjou no Maou. I really liked this one for the main 2 characters. The side routes range from decent to great but the main route is definitely the best. I loved the thriller aspects to this VN. If you haven't read this VN then be sure to give it a read also don't forget to read the epilogue, which I believe is after the credits. Been a while since I've read it so I'm not 100% sure about that.

    Some other recommendations I can give would be...

    -Grisaia no Kajitsu(good characters, and most of the routes are enjoyable. Sachi was my favorite. Has a nice mix of genres comedy, drama, romance, thriller)

    -Comyu(most of the routes are really good except Ayaya her route felt like a joke IMO. My personal fav was Mayuki for the romance and 2nd to Hisoka, which oddly enough I kinda liked the bad ending more, for the feels I suppose)

    -Swan Song(I really liked the setting and atmosphere of this one. Its overall very somber and kinda depressing, but a great read because of it.)

    -Natsukumo Yururu(Unfortunately it hasn't been translated to English. It looks like a Moege based on it pic on VNDB. While it does start out like one after a few hours it turns into something else. Really enjoyed the mystery and setting of this one)
