These awards shows are often stupid and people care about them far too much. See: both "sad puppies" and the backlash against "sad puppies" then the backlash against that backlash and the resulting backlash against the fourth(?) backlash. The internet has become a shithole in recent years, it really has. Why can't we all just enjoy what we want to enjoy and leave each other alone?
-
Kageaki is best boy In all seriousness though, Alice Kuonji from Mahoyo is a qt. And Muramasa is pretty great, too.
-
The big problem for OELVN developers is that the actual audience for visual novels is tiny, and it doesn't actually bloody know what it wants. The criteria for what makes a VN sell changes day by day and seems completely arbitrary, as far as I'm concerned. No one is able to release a successful product because the entire thing is basically a gamble. Everyone has to play it safe in order to try build up a bit of revenue before they can even think about making something more experimental than a Japanese setting.

I feel like I've gotten sour about VNs in the west

I just want to read more Chuunige, whether it's an OELVN or a translated game -

You've made a few similar threads recently, and the best, all-encompassing, advice I can give you is: just make what you want to make, dude. An indie visual novel isn't going to make you a millionaire, probably not even a living, so just make something that you can love and be proud of. That's the best pay-off you're going to get from doing this. Once you've done that, making money is a bonus. Also you're not going to win any friends by saying: "Look how different and better I am than other OELVNs". It's really dismissive of other people's hard work and, contrary to ignorant popular belief, OELVNs are most assuredly not just a bunch of copy paste high school games. The shovelware shite on steam ≠the sole representative of the OELVN scene.

Having played "written in the sky" by the same people, I can't say I'm at all surprised at this. Not a dev I hold in high esteem, after putting myself through that...

Early or late branching plot - What's better?
Omega_93 replied to Dergonu's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Plot that branches early for sure. Only problem is I can't think of many VNs that don't have some sort of "common" route that just has to be skipped on the following playthrough. Seems entirely pointless to me. -\_(ツ)_/- -
Ahh Rosuuri's art is so good VN looks really nice overall, too

Both "gamergate" and "SJWs" are the worst thing to ever happen to the internet. Cannot get away from their petty squabbles, it's everywhere. Just let people do what they want to do, as long as 'what they want to do' doesn't impede or hurt anyone else's 'thing they want to do'. On the actual topic: the way I interpret it, they weren't afraid of some backlash against previous DoA games. They just saw the constant toxicity of western media surrounding a lot of Japanese games and, understandably, decided they wanted nothing to with it. At least that's how I saw it at first. Of course, they then proceeded to drop-kick the hornet's nest and wonder why a load of hornets were buzzing around them, not to mention the game is still technically available, just not localised...

OELVN Project Violet Hill (DEMO released)
Omega_93 replied to Helvetica Standard's topic in Original Projects
@Diamon, we'll have a new common route demo relatively soon, so I'd recommend just waiting for that one -

OELVN Project Violet Hill (DEMO released)

A little update on the dev blog, as I lament the fact I decided to write a blog. http://93rdsphere.com/2015/08/16/violet-hill-dev-blog-2-vaguely-blabbering-about-development/ -
OELVN Project Violet Hill (DEMO released)
Omega_93 replied to Helvetica Standard's topic in Original Projects
Well, since the rollback deleted a couple of our updates, I thought it'd be a good idea to post them again -_- but with more this time, hurray! First up, my blog where I'll be talking about the development of Violet Hill on the writing side. My next blog, which I'll be releasing on Sunday, will be about outlining plot and how I structure things. >> Blog can be found here. << Next up, we plan on making our twitter page a bit more active, so if you wanna get in touch with us for more frequent updates (in theory) then please give us a follow >>here<< Last and certainly not least: our tumblr page. We'll be posting updates there and, again, in theory, it's going to be the central hub of all things Violet Hill. Our home base website, if you will. That can be found >>here<< Since I'm here, I should actually update with something rather than just shilling our various social media, so.... here ya go. So, yeah! There's some Yuki Sprites! Maybe if you click on them you'll get a surprise? In terms of writing updates... we'll probably have a common route demo out by the end of the year, all things permitting... then, the full game in 2016! (Hopefully even on steam!) -

Ooooh, hacker/NEET protagonist sounds fun like something you'd see from the Sci;Adv series. I'd love to help you come up with the scenario as an idea bouncer and I would happily act as an Editor/quality checker when you've got more material to show. Keep at it, friend. It's always awesome to see more VNs in the community (or at least ones that actually focus on story rather than being a glorified dating sim )
