I watched Season 2 of Wagnaria and am preparing to jump right into Season 3. I loved Season 1 when I saw it, quite a while ago now, but for a variety of reasons didn't get to Season 2 until recently. The show is still hysterical, but Season 2 was a lot less gratifying than Season 1, so I'm looking forward to Season 3 actually wrapping things up properly. I wish the translation were better: this is probably the funniest anime I've ever watched, and it deserves a more clever translation than NISA gave it. I think Aniplex of America got Season 3, so we'll see if they did any better... my hopes aren't high.

Fal is unique, very divisive, and often not well liked. I think her route is awesome, but that's almost certainly a minority opinion. Lise is simply boring, IMO, and Torta's route is... well, you'll see. At any rate, you shouldn't write off Symphonic Rain until you've finished all three of those heroines' routes: strangely enough, none of them is a good indication of what the game is really like.

Want something with a good plot (Not the jiggly kind)

Note that Steins;Gate 0 is a completely separate story, and just as good as the original, IMO. Also, although I watched the anime first as well, when I finally talked myself into playing the VN it turned out to be well worth it: the material in the VN that they left out of the anime is really good stuff. -

Maybe try a game from the Steampunk series, assuming you're up for that kind of atmosphere. Gahkthun is the only one with an official release and I really enjoyed it, but Inganock is a better game (with a worse translation...). Steins;Gate and Steins;Gate 0 are both probably good choices. Symphonic Rain might be a surprisingly good choice, though it starts off a little slow, and some of the initial routes aren't the greatest. Shadows of Pygmalion is underrated and would probably be a good fit for the request here. People don't talk about Demonbane much, but I think that's mostly since the game and the TL are both pretty old by now. Probably also a good fit, though. Demonbane is maybe the only VN I've played which I would describe as campy, but in spite of that, it has its fair share of dark themes as well. -
Enemy Heroine and Protaganist Romance

Funbag Fantasy is actually a pretty solid game. It's the best proof I know of that a game can be a nukige without being just a nukige. Also, I know it was already called out, but Koihime Musou is pretty darn good, and has a lot of heroines who fit the request, so I thought maybe I should bring it up again in case it got buried earlier. -
The good news is, you appear to have found another place already.

I finally got back to watching Gurren Lagann seriously a few days ago, and I wrapped it up tonight. I don't really know what to say except that it was amazing. I was constantly either grinning or outright laughing at the way it just kept one-upping itself right to the very end. The delightful subs made all the difference as well: I imagine that would've been a much worse experience without all the flair the translator packed into those lines.

What Video Games Are You Playing Right Now?
Fred the Barber replied to solidbatman's topic in Gaming Talk
I'm also back in the saddle with the Tales series recently, having just gotten back into Zestiria. Pretty good. Glad to have some time to play games not named Persona 5 again. -
https://fuwanovel.net/reviews/2017/10/18/wagamama-high-spec/ Or, please give me a like because I mistyped my Twitter handle in the official Tweet so I already missed out on 80% of the ego-stroking I get out of doing these things. Anyway, what did you all think of the game?

So, I know what I would suggest doing with this conceptually, but I'm having trouble putting it into practice for this precise scenario. A good way to insulting nickname people is, like @ChaosRaven said, to use the full name and a brief insulting descriptor with a strong rhyme: "Asaba no-bra" or "Weak-jaw Asaba" or "all-flaws Asaba" or "no-chutzpa Asaba". Some of those came from my head, more of them from futzing around on rhyming sites for a couple minutes, but certainly none of them would actually fit in context: I think ending "ah" might just be a hard sound to rhyme in English. Agreed with the prevailing opinion that "Asa-bat" sounds terrible, though, not just because the meaning is non-obvious, but especially because it doesn't even freaking rhyme: the vowel in the English word "bat" sounds completely different from the Japanese syllable "ba". Rhyming is about sound, not about spelling. So, they definitely dropped the ball on this joke in a lot of ways. All that said, I'd jump at the chance to make fun of this guy for talking by calling him "Asablah, blah, blah".

+1 for To Heart 2's Tama-nee, as an older sister type, but not technically an older sister. Same with Supipara's Sakura, though their personalities are a bit different... 11Eyes is probably the closest to fitting the bill, but the fan translation is frankly painful to read: literally thousands of typos (and I really do mean that literally, not figuratively), and massively overblown prose. I have a FuwaReview of it here: https://fuwanovel.net/reviews/2017/01/12/11eyes-sin-damnation-and-the-atonement-girl/

What Video Games Are You Playing Right Now?
Fred the Barber replied to solidbatman's topic in Gaming Talk
FFIX is a gem; have fun with it! I played it an extremely long time ago, but I still pull out the soundtrack from time to time, and I look back on it with a lot of nostalgia; I wouldn't be surprised to hear the game still holds up today, from what I recall of it. -
To Heart 2 Sound and Music Skipping
Fred the Barber replied to Erogamer's topic in Visual Novel Talk
The way you would do that would be: open Task Manger click the "Details" tab Find TOHEART2.exe Right-click it, and select "Set affinity" uncheck all boxes except one and click "Ok" Not saying it'll necessarily help either, but worth a try. Edit: Also, I don't think you need any kind of compatibility mode, so I'd try turning that off. I've always run the game on Win10 without any compatibility mode on, and not had the problem described. -
Yeah, hopefully that's not what you have (and agreed it doesn't sound like it, if you don't have the "whooping" part of it). Just saying: coughs that last forever suck and sometimes actually do need medical attention, so, take care of yourself!
-
Good taste: you have it.
-
I somehow caught whooping cough once (it's not exactly common where I'm from) and had a bad cough for some four or five months, until a third visit to the doctor finally checked for that (see earlier sidebar) and a course of antibiotics helped knock it out. In short, yeah, you might want to do something about that cough. Confession: Me too.

Steins;Gate and Steins;Gate 0 poll: best girl (spoilers!)
Fred the Barber replied to un1ess's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Yeeeees, my candidate is doing well. Go, Maho, go! -
I just want to toss out a recommendation that people give the twins' bad ending route a try (as well as their good ending route, naturally). The bad ending is a downer, of course, but there's some hilarious stuff along the way, including (I guess this is technically a spoiler, but it's the farthest thing from a big deal so I'm not spoilering it) a bishoujo game-within-a-bishoujo game, which I have a good deal of fondness for, and it would make me sad to imagine nobody but me and ittaku ever reading it.

I finished Planetes. The long last arc was something of a surprise, coming on the heels of mostly episodic content, but I'm all about shows with solid half-season arcs, so I thought it was perfect. The story overall felt maybe a little bit rushed, especially in that last arc, but that's probably the only negative thing I could possibly say about the series: it blew me away and reignited my dormant passion for space stuff, which is an amazing feeling. Makes me want to go find more near-future hard sci-fi and ride out the high. This one is on my shelf and is something I'm looking forward to, mostly because of the original story having been written by Tanaka Romeo, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Keep us posted on how you like it!

Majo Koi Nikki has a short and sweet teacher route, but we're not quite done with the translation... Keep your eyes peeled, though. -
I finished Kiss Him Not Me. It was kind of funny throughout, but the ending was unsatisfying in a lot of ways. While the show looked like it had potential very early on, and especially in episode 5, it never really did much with it and ended up being very shallow. I can't really recommend it, any more than I would recommend a generic harem. Started watching Planetes, which is phenomenal so far (three episodes in). It manages to juggle the sublime, the mundane, and the ridiculous while telling a compelling human drama. Also, the music is great! Really excited about this one.

Cou - Black Dragon Crash Issue
Fred the Barber replied to FinalCloud's topic in Voluntary Tech Support
Just dropping in to say that, yes, many people have played Comyu; it's pretty popular. I can even confirm I've played it on Win10 successfully, though that required using version.dll from the Win8WOH workaround to fix an issue that prevents the game from starting entirely on Win8 and higher. That doesn't sound like it's the problem you have, though, since that error should prevent it from starting up entirely, not cause random crashes. Do you have any more information on the crash, like an error message? -
I watched WataMote a year ago or so and loathed it. Only ragrets. It was kind of like Welcome to the NHK, but less funny and without any of the redeeming qualities.
