Writing coherent articles from scratch is totally different to translation of natural human dialogue though IMO. Definitely structured verbose writing will come first since that has all the information. Spoken language is nothing like that though.

I gave it a whorl with Japanese to English and it's still abysmal absolutely... however relatively it is definitely less bad than it used to be. I think this is how we'll eventually see useful machine translations; not from some massive breakthrough in approaches but from fine grained step by step improvements as the mechanism approaches real AI by imitating what humans do when translating. Perhaps it might happen in my lifetime but I'm not holding my breath. Someone asked me how soon we're likely to see good machine translation (before I read this article and tried it) and I said probably within 50 years. I'm still reluctant to decrease this estimate.

I watched two episodes and, as a parent, after the way they ended the second episode I shredded my hard drive, burnt my monitor and smashed my PC to pieces and threw it out the window. Of course I'm likely the only person on this forum who feels that way about Ikusei, but I figured I'd point out that not everyone gets off on it.

Yes it's still awesome... but I'm biased since it's my baby. Even if it is one of the original visual novels to invent and use many of the tropes that are standard fare these days, there was no standard for how these things were done back then so the original incarnation is often better than all the copies. Additionally you'll be hard pressed to find a visual novel with as many tropes as this (lol), see: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VisualNovel/ToHeart2 though don't read too far into it for there are spoilers mixed in. EDIT: And Tama-nee fits your description perfectly of strong willed women anee-san.

Thanks very much. I've seen Acchi Kocchi and it was cute and amusing in its own right but there was no real romantic evolution which was a little disappointing. I've heard of the other two but never really looked into them, having fallen off my radar, so I will check them out!

Why? There's always a flood of newbies joining the forum and they'd have no idea that their request is unreasonable. I've pushed for there to be a sticky for newcomers entitled "Make your translation requests here" that instead leads to a post explaining how unbelievably unreasonable it is to expect someone would translate something just because a request is being made, outlining just what's involved in translating a whole game/VN. Alas either the admins/mods don't think this is important enough to go to the effort of making - or - they get a kick out of humiliating poor unwitting new forum members (maybe a combination of both?)

Are you after completely emotionless or kuudere - relatively emotionless cool on the outside but actually loving on the inside?

We just have to agree to disagree then for I find that nailing existing tropes with good execution almost never happens these days.

I've seen maybe 500 anime and I love it. Why? It is indeed generic but every trope is done right. Not a single one falls flat in my opinion, and I don't just mean the relationship side. It's like the culmination of 2 decades of tropes all pulled together and executed well. Is it perfect? Hell no, it's no Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood but there have been precious few shows that made me grin from ear to ear from the start to finish the way Rakudai did. If it didn't work for you, then so be it, but there will always be shows that most people like yet don't gel with you on that level (for me it's Clannad.)

Not only that but 2 of these, Nabatame Hitomi and Ryouko Ono are also in To Heart 2. I was just listing Shizuka Itou as the most famous one earlier. Rina Satou is also a famous VA who was in To Heart 2. It was a veritable festival of great voice actresses.

Glad that's the one you compared it to, for that is my reference for just how good that formula could be (plus Stella rocks my gonads.) I've rewatched that series 5 times. To be fair, I have to admit that I finished the entire season of Asterisk but that was mainly because I kept hoping it would get better during the final climactic battles... but it didn't

I tried hard to like it, almost for the same reason as @Eclipsed since I love pink haired heroines, yet it was so meh all along. Not to mention it managed to add a character with the most annoying voice acting in the history of anime - that was one of its most notable features as an anime. Not good.

Absolutely every single Zelda console adventure ever made. As an old bastard, despite playing thousands of games when I was younger, I pretty much don't play games any more (unless you count VNs as games) yet whenever a new Zelda console game is finally released, I take 2 weeks off work to play it to my heart's content. They really are that good in my eyes.
