  1. Well after the first season I came into Refrain with no expectations of anything good, but honestly I feel like it's been getting better every week. It's not as strong as the VN no, and there's still this awkwardness between all the dialogue that I can't quite describe, but I don't feel that Masato/Kengo/Kyousuke's routes were ruined. As for the foreshadowing completely revealing the ending - while I don't like it at all, I'll add that I completely spoiled myself on the ending to the VN, before I even touched the VN. And yet it was still a really strong ending. There's more power in the story than just the big reveal of the Secret Of The World. So I dunno. It's not the adaptation it could be, but I still look forward to it every week.
  2. I'm in!
  3. Merry Christmas!
  4. If you told me it was wrong to hope, I'd tell you it wasn't wrong. I'd say it as many times as necessary. I'd say it forever. - Kaname Madoka
  5. Oh I've been really happy with RTK, I was just curious about how to learn the readings post-RTK. I do plan to read VNs with ITH and TA once I've finished RTK, so I'll pick it up from practice that way!
  6. Finished Sunday Without God. I did like the final arc, but yeah the fact that the arcs weren't interrelated kept it from being a strong series imo. Overall my feeling is what I thought it would be - "neat, but that's about it". I think Kill la Kill is probably pretty polarizing. Some people are going to think it's a blast to watch, and some people are going to think it's the stupidest shit (and I can totally understand why someone would think that!). 5 eps in though, I still think it's worth trying.
  7. So with 2013 almost over, I decided to get started on this! >_> But really I only saw the Fuwanovel blog post about learning Japanese a couple days ago, and the methods sounded solid and straightforward so I decided it was time to buckle down. Learning Japanese is one of those things I've said I'll do for years, and then I never stuck with it. I did take an Intro Japanese college course which got me to memorize the kana and learn a bit of grammar and vocab, but once the class ended (almost a year and half ago at this point) I stopped trying. Anyway I'm starting now with memorizing kanji just 10/day at a time, and I'll look ahead at the grammar book, just cause I like grammar. So this question is for the way future when I've actually memorized the kanji, but I'm curious about how people go about learning the readings. Is there another set of flashcards with those, or some other method?
  8. Halfway through Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi (Sunday Without God). All I can say is that it's neat in terms of the world and aesthetic, but the story doesn't seem to amount to much. It seems like every three episodes is its own mini-story, and the second one isn't that interesting. I'm sticking with it, but I really do think my final assessment will be "It was neat, but I have nothing more to say". Watched the first ep of Kill la Kill and wowow I like this, definitely going to catch up with the series and watch every week. We're finally into the Refrain route of Little Busters :3 The first season left me horribly disappointed, but I'm getting more confidence now that Refrain can hit some of the high points of the VN.
  9. 16 replies in one day. You guys are so friendly! Well I still have all the other Key VN's left, although from what I can tell Tomoyo After and Planetarian are the only ones I haven't read that are translated? The Air project seems to be making good progress though, so we'll see. Definitely going to try some non-Key stuff though, Fate/Stay Night is next on my list, and I liked the Steins;Gate anime so I'll prolly read the VN at some point. As for Angel Beats!...I didn't like the anime, but I could see giving the VN a go when that happens. I might be biased because Kanon was my first VN, and Ayu is my favorite anime/VN character. But Kanon made me realize how powerful the VN medium is for love stories. You can focus on the girl to the degree that only she is voiced, only she is even seen on-screen, and the player is looking at her from a first-person view. And the fact that the routes in Kanon were focused solely on the girl, and the rest of the characters mostly fell to the side (especially in Ayu's route) made the love seem even more powerful - compare to Little Busters where the are tons of other friends around, Rewrite where there's all these world problems to worry about, or Clannad where Nagisa's family is very involved in the relationship.I do love LB/Rewrite/Clannad, but none of them have made me adore a character as much as Kanon with Ayu. Also thanks everyone for the lolis and yuri :3
  10. I found Fuwanovel a couple months ago and made an account, but I've decided to be more active! So my VN experience started when I watched the Kanon anime on a friend's suggestion, and then said to myself "hey I've heard this is based on a visual novel? Lemme find out what that even is, and I'll go through Kanon that way." Took a while for it to grab my interest, but once I got into Ayu's route I was hooked. After Kanon I decided to play all of Key's VNs, so I've finished LIttle Busters, Rewrite, and I'm currently playing Clannad. Besides VNs I'm a passionate anime fan (MAL on left!) and video game player. So far this community seems really cool, I'm happy to be here!
  11. 1. Madoka Magica 2. Madoka Magica (it's seriously that important to me) 3. Monster 4. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 5. Katanagatari 6. Haibane Renmei 7. Tari Tari 8. GaoGaiGar 9. Death Note 10. Neon Genesis Evangelion I do like Kanon 2006 a lot but it just didn't capture my adoration like the VN did.
  12. I watched the Clannad anime after hearing a bunch of recommendations, and really liked the After Story half. That made me want to see more Key stuff, so I got a couple episodes into Kanon, and it was only around that time that I learned these shows were based off VNs. So I said hey, I should try reading Kanon before I finish watching it. I think I struggled through the common route, reading for like 5 minutes and then saying meh and putting it aside, but once I got into Ayu's route, man was I hooked. And am still hooked - only on my third VN but I don't see myself stopping any time soon.
