Definitely, that would be awesome. I was thinking of writing my own tools for handling scripts, but this will make things much easier. How should we coordinate? Is the port 100% functional (I see you said it was 'demo quality' in your quoted post)?

I'm going to translate Aiyoku no Eustia from where the partial patch by Yandere Translations finished. I've run into a technical difficulty dumping the games scripts and could use some helping working through it: -I extracted the arc files using "arc unpacker 0.2.1", this worked fine as far as I can tell (images extracted this way look fine). -When I then try to dump the extracted scripts (with names like "aiy00010", and no file extensions) using the "bgi script tools" found on tlwiki.org, I receive an error from python: "Error: 'cp932' codec can't decode byte 0xf1 in position 1: illegal multibyte sequence." -I have tried changing the code page of the console window I use to launch the python script to no avail. Relevant details: Windows 7 64bit; Python 3.5; Japanese system locale; Console run as administrator.

Alright, thanks for all the advice guys, I have a pretty clear idea of where to go from here now, and it seems like it will be much less of a chore than I anticipated.

So I take it while reading japanese VNs with a text hooker and dictionary parser I will be able to remember and retain words simply by encountering them over and over? Or should I drill myself on each new word? I guess I'll go over a grammar guide like (http://amaterasu.tindabox.net/guide/) as I start reading. No point in reading the kanji readings in Heisig's second volume then?

My goal is to be able to read and write japanese fluently enough to be able to chat with some of my Japanese friends, and of course, to be able to read and enjoy visual novels. I've finished memorizing all the hiragana, katakana, the meaning/writing of Heisig's 2000+ kanji, plus some basic particles and grammar. I also learned a few hundred words and phrases (purely in hiragana/katakana) through Memrise.com. So I guess I have to go through the all the kanji readings contained in Remembering the Kanji II now? Does anyone have any advice based on their own experiences on how to speed up the process?

That's a shame, I am making good progress learning japanese, but it will be quite a while before I can enjoy reading something in japanese to the same extent as in my native language. I will try contacting the translation team, and offer to make a temporary patch if they send me their translation data. I'll also offer to help with editing and proofreading.

I'm just wondering why the translation project status for Ex/ME (link below) shows Sasami's route as entirely translated, edited, and proofread, and yet the latest patch contains virtually none of that translated content. I get the impression from various threads around the place that the translation project has taken place over a very long period of time, and Sasami's content has been completed for quite a while, have there really been no partial/incremental releases since they started working on the Ex/ME content?
