Muv-Luv Unlimited: The Day After is officially released
Dreamysyu replied to Solitude94's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Hmmm. I looked it up, and yeah, it looks like the two stories from Chronicles 4 are still missing (I believe, you meant to say volume 4 instead of volume 3). Well, it's a shame. I hope they will be released in some new fandisk. PS. As for the nukige spinoff, I'm pretty sure it was just a joke story about alien monster girls or something. I skipped it when I played Chronicles vol. 1. -
Muv-Luv Unlimited: The Day After is officially released
Dreamysyu replied to Solitude94's topic in Visual Novel Talk
It doesn't really have multiple protagonists, as far as I understand from playing the fan-translation of ep. 0 and all the information I've seen online. Episode 0 is pretty much a standalone story on its own, which pretty much introduces the setting and has different characters than the later episodes. Starting with ep. 1, it's pretty much one VN split into parts, and these parts all have one single protagonist. If you are confused by the vndb pages, then, like I mentioned in my previous post, the Japanese release of Alternative Chronicles consisted of multiple non-connected stories, and most of them were already released in English, while this release only consists of TDA, which was only a part of the original games. This is why this release is marked as "incomplete" on vndb. PS. Also, for the same reason, the length tags may not be accurate. For reference, as far as I remember, episode 0 on its own was somewhere in the lower "short" category, maybe even "very short". The later episodes may be longer. -

The Day After vol. 0 was originally included as a part of Alternative Chronicles vol. 1 and so on. As far as I know, the other stories from Alternative chronicles were already released as Photonflowers and Photonmelodies. -
@Novel21 Happy birthday!

Girl protagonists in shounen and seinen - sure. Protagonists in shoujo (including otome games, as far as I know) either have extremely meek personalities and always rely on guys to solve all of their problems, or extremely thoughtless and always make guys to stop them from doing something dumb. They are also almost required to be completely dense about romance. (and have small breasts). There are exceptions, of course, but these particular tropes repeat so often that it's pretty annoying.

To be fair, the same can be said for more than 90% of all hentai.

So, are you implying that everyone who has different fetishes than you is crazy?
-
Yeah, that's often a good idea.

Welcome to Fuwa!

The other translations from the same translator are good, so it should be fine.

Yep, this one. I'm not really sure if I'm going to finish the whole series since it seems to be pretty massive, but if I do I'll probably follow the first suggested order in this tweet. I haven't played it for that much time yet, but I'm really enjoying it so far! Though I'm not really sure how interesting my impressions are going to be, considering that my experience with JRPGs is pretty close to zero, so I don't really have anything to compare it to, lol.

I guess, it's finally time to see what Trails series is about.

Forums Updates and Emi as Admin

It was nice knowing you, guys. -
To me it feels like somebody wanted to have him work on this since he was known for writing horror, but they didn't realize what made his previous works good and gave him too many constraints for the actual writing. It's funny how this VN completely contradicts what Ryukishi himself believes about writing good horror. By the way, I'm currently at chapter 5, and it made my impression even worse than I wrote in my previous post. It just went in the most cliche direction possible. Honestly, I'll probably try reading it a bit more, but I'm very close to following @Silvz's advice and just dropping it completely.

@Stormwolf You're seriously posting this without spoiler tags? Is fuwa actually turning into Youtube comments or something?

Ame no Marginal. The MC commits a disastrous sin of speaking!!! -
I know. And usually I drop VNs pretty easily as soon as I lose interest, which happens quite a lot recently. Looking i at my vndb list, the last time I actually finished a VN was in June. On the other hand, in this particular case I just want to get some sort of conclusion. I guess, I'm still kind of interested to see how the mystery is resolved, even though, honestly, the game itself is just boring. Plus I still have some hopes that it might get better when they start to explain stuff. I may drop it still, but I want to read a bit more. And, honestly, I probably a bit overreacted yesterday. It's not like the game is all bad. I personally kind of enjoyed Riria's chapter. The problem is just that I feel like it fails on so many levels. The horror is not scary at all, and the characters are pretty forgettable. I honestly feel like their stories could be a lot more impactful if the setting was more realistic, without all the weird supernatural stuff. That's kind of disturbing analogy. Though it makes perfect sense, I guess. You know, I have some suspicions about that. You know, one of the main things I like about Ryukishi's stories is how well he constructs them. Everything makes sense in the end. I read Higurashi after I already spoiled the whole story with the anime, and it was crazy how many little hints there are throughout the whole story which only make sense after you already know everything. In case of Iwaihime, however, he only wrote the script, and he probably didn't really construct the story itself, as the original idea wasn't his. Also, there were probably some constraints on the story length, so the characters aren't that well fleshed out. Maybe that's what's missing. PS. Forgot so say it, but I finished chapter 4 (Tsubakiko's).

Iwaihime. Still going through it. Very slowly. With massive pauses. Only about halfway in. Help. Honestly, kind of surreal how one of my favorite VN authors wrote this piece of trash.

Happy birthday to @Eclipsed and @Leonor!

To be honest, there's nothing particularly interesting (except for continuation of a certain anime from this season), but there are some shows that may turn out to be good. Still kind of disappointing compared to this season.

Need some recommendations for 'PLOT-TWIST'

The House in Fata Morgana may work, I think. -
It's time for a new anime season, I guess? First of all, we have a continuation of the new Higurashi anime. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by this show so far, and I'm personally intrigued to see where it will go. At the same time, I wouldn't really recommend this one to anybody other than the fans of the original VN or anime, because I don't really think it's a good place to start (though I doubt anyone on this forum would start with this anime lol) and the way it basically repeats the story of the original game with some small changes here and there will probably feel very boring for some people who aren't really invested in the series that much. I'm also kind of curious in another anime that has a new season right now, The Promised Neverland. I haven't realized before now that the first season existed, but I've heard some really intriguing comments about the manga, so I guess I will give this a try. Starting with the first season, of course. And then we have multiple isekais that are actually supposed to be good. First of all, we have a new season of Re;Zero, but personally I'm not really excited. I liked the first season, but, honestly, I've seen a lot of much better isekais since then, and I still need to catch up with the previous season. I may try watching it if I'm in the mood, but I'll probably skip it for now. Mushoku Tensei is another skip from me for now since I'm going to read the LN first. This one is supposed to be really good or something, but nobody really says why, so it's a mystery for me for now. Then we have a new season of the Slime anime. The first episode already came out, but it's just a recap of the previous season. Honestly, I'm kind of torn about this one for now. I liked the first season and want to see more, but I also feel like I should probably switch to the LN since some commenters said that the anime skipped some stuff, but I'm also not sure if I liked it enough to reread the whole story from the beginning, so it may be better to just stick to the anime. And we finally have an adaptation of So I'm a Spider. So what? I was really excited about this anime after it was announced, but I was also a bit worried that the adaptation wouldn't really give the source material justice, but, basing on the first episode, it seems to be doing things pretty well, so I can finally recommend this series without much doubt. Honestly, I feel like even some people who don't generally like isekais might enjoy this one. At least if they get to the point where the MC finally leaves the labyrinth, since the beginning is somewhat slow. It's a story that is really good at subverting the common genre cliches without being disrespectful to them or turning into a parody. Overall, it's a good mix of a solid plot and genuinely funny comedy, which mostly comes from the MC's narrative. The writing makes a very good use of multiple perspective and is really good at hiding things in a plain sight. Overall, the first episode captured everything pretty well, but they also weren't afraid to make changes where they were needed. I can't wait to see how the anime-only viewers are going to react to some really insane plot twists later on. PS. Also, I love how the opening is basically filled with foreshadowing and semi-spoilers, but you probably aren't going to get them unless you already know the story.
