So, I finally finished reading the fifth chapter of Higurashi (aka Meakashi) and man, does it feel amazing to read it for the first time! The previous ones were all rereads so I kinda knew what to expect (although I didn't remember a lot) but this one, even tho it's related to the Watanagashi chapter, it had a completely different feeling~ My comments (spoilers, obviously) So far, this is my rank: #1 Tatarigoroshi #2 Watanagashi #3 Onikakushi #4 Meakashi #5 Himatsubushi Anyways, I'll give this one a 7,8/10! Next will be Tsumihoroboshi (chapter 6)! I can't wait to be with my boi Keiichi again~

This last week, I finished reading Higurashi: Himatsubushi! It didn't feel as amazing as the previous ones, but it was good enough! I'll admit, the first bit of it was kinda boring because of all the infodump and the lack of action and, overall, it was kinda slow. I played the mod version with the choices, but I was expecting the bad ending to be, idk, longer? It was very underwhelming lol Now, for the spoilers... Damn, this one didn't have any screenshots worth sharing Welp, I'll give this one a 7/10 Anywaaaaaays, I'm reading Higurashi: Meakashi already (just finished chapter 1) and it's so cool aaaa!!!
-
Time for another chapter! This time, I reread the third chapter, Tatarigoroshi I was expecting it already, but this was very confusing... tho I did realize more things than the first time I read it! Chapter 1: Chapter 3: Chapter 4: Chapter 5: Chapter 6: Chapter 7: Chapter 8: Chapter 9: Chapter 10: Chapter 11: Chapter 12: Chapter 13: BONUS CHAPTER: I'm so tired of creating my own theories tho, hau... I'll just upload these thoughts and read the next chapter!! Overall, this chapter did not disappoint; again, it wasn't as impactful as the first read, but I did learn some things I wouldn't be able to know the first time I read this. I'll give it an 8/10 Next chapter, Himatsubushi!
-
Well then, I finally finished my rereading of Higurashi: Watanagashi! It was less impactful than the first time I read it, but that was to be expected; however, I did relearn a LOT of things I had forgotten Chapter 3: Chapter 5: Chapter 6: Chapter 7: Chapter 9: Chapter 11: Chapter 12: BONUS CHAPTER: It definitely wasn't as good of an experience as the first read, but as I said earlier, that's to be expected: I already knew and remembered most plot twists lol That said, I'll give this chapter a solid 7,8/10 Next is Higurashi: Tatarigoroshi (aka the third chapter!); until then, bye bye!

[Higurashi: Watanagashi] I'll be finishing this one by Sunday (...probably) but I thought I'd drop by to talk about the first two chapters I really like this chapter and I just know I'll be able to enjoy it more this time! Mion might be my favorite character (besides Keiichi), I swear to the Gods Chapter 1: Chapter 2: Anyways, I'm liking it so far! There's a lot I didn't remember!

Pheeew...! I finished the first chapter of Higurashi! Even as a reread, this was still a ride. Sure, the last chapter wasn't as intense or impactful as it once was, but the ending still left me satisfied and hyped for the next chapter!! I am so looking forward to actually read the ones I haven't read for the first time! Can you even blame her? I saw what Keiichi looked like in the manga and wow, soooo kyute! Well, it's time to jump to the next chapter! I've had my fun with this one, but I can't wait to navigate this next one and read the third one - my favorite I give Higurashi: Onikakushi 8,5/10 stars! Until next time!!

Finally, I'm able to post something decent lel I've been playing Maggot Baits for a while but I still don't have much I want to comment on, though I'm liking the story so far! The h-scenes could benefit from a cut but oh well! As far as story goes, I'm enjoying it! The bad ending was pure nukige material, but the plot towards the first ending is very much interesting. I'm looking forward to advancing the plot... Today, I started my rereading of Higurashi: When They Cry and UUUGHHH I MISSED IT SO MUCH! I finished the chapter 2 (within the Onikakushi chapter) and I'm so satisfied~!! Aah, I love 'em girls hahaha Well, that feels like a fucking lie- Pfft Keiichi is too ahead of himself Now, for the spoilery stuff... I should be finished with this first chapter this Sunday so until then, I won't probably post updates, who knows...

Good luck! I played that last year and it was pretty late in my VN reading journey but it was enjoyable enough, I guess. It's definitely better for people who play this as one of their first VNs but, dependending on what you like, it can be just as good later on! Personally, I don't enjoy these pure love stories and Nagisa... oh gods, I loathe Nagisa, oof. She is just so bland, meh. Most routes are pretty good tho! I would say that my fave heroines are Kyou, Tomoyo, Yukine, Kotomi and Misae, but the best routes (imo) are Kotomi's and Yukine's. Oh, Fuko is pretty cute, also, but I don't see her as heroine material akjsjsbd and that's not all! You also have other routes to read, which I'm not gonna tell you in case you want to go blind haha

Musicus! Available on Steam and MangaGamer (+18) Summary Kei used to attend a famous high school with aspirations of one day becoming a doctor like his parents, but he stopped for a term due to certain reasons and is now studying part-time. While his journey had become more difficult, it was still possible to get back on track. However, after meeting many different types of people that he had not previously encountered and realizing that there was so much in the world that he did not know, he began to question what future he truly desired. After receiving a prize from a city-wide competition for a short story that he wrote, he was asked by Yagihara, the president of a music production, to accompany their band on their upcoming tour and write a report about the event. The band was Kachoufuugetsu, which once performed on the big stage. Its leader Korekiyo is quite a peculiar fellow and talked at length about how music was pointless and good for nothing. Even though Kei was perplexed about Korekiyo, he was taken away by the band’s music when he heard it for the first time. A few days later after that memorable first live, Kei found out that they were disbanding. Unable to accept the sudden news, he approached Korekiyo many times to convince him to change his mind, but no argument could sway him. Instead, Korekiyo asked him: “How about you play rock in my place?” Ending Guideline / Suggested Route Order There are 3 main routes and a single bad ending. This VN uses your typical ladder structure format, in which there's a true ending and some routes in your way there. There are 3 acts in this story, each one to separate each route in the ladder. Be aware that there aren't "free choices" and every single one matters to the route. To save you some time from control-skipping, I have included Save Points in addition to the full route guides. Walkthrough Prologue (Act I) Ozaki Yako Common Route (Act II) Kousaka Meguru Common Route (Act III) Bad Ending Hanai Mikazuki (TRUE ENDING) Attribution Summary stolen from VNDB. If there is anything wrong, let me know ASAP via PM!

[Musicus!] Act II (I'm typing this as I'm playing it, and I had to turn off Kaneda's voice because I just couldn't stand it, ugh. He got even more annoying real fast.) Okay, I finished it. It's official, I'm dropping this. This act was... fine. Act I was fun and all, but after that it was just painful to keep reading - it's a shame, I was expecting so much more :((( ---- After this, I'll finally be able to make progress with Maggot Baits, so at least I'm excited for that!

That's what I've heard too

[Musicus!] Ozaki's Route This was a tough one. A pal of mine warned me I should read this in one sitting since I might lose my motivation to get back on it after and I tried, but I ended up reading this in three (not full) days. It wasn't bad: their relationship was good and I really liked the parallels between Ozaki and Kei, but the middle (and most of the route) was really REALLY slow and dragged. In the end, it was only a 6/10. If only they had shortened in the middle of the route, it would be enough for me to give it a 7/10. I sure hope this is the weakest route ------------ Alright, next week I'll be reading the second act!

[Musicus!] This week I'm playing Musicus! I think I only played one vn focused on music so far, so I'm really looking forward to it! First impressions Positive The writing flows so well! I don't know if it's because I've been reading "meh" VNs or what, but I could read this for hours and not feel tired. The music AND THE SONGS, holy moly. I love the BGM, it fits so much and I was expecting actual songs, but I wasn't expecting to love them this much! I guess I'll be searching for them later on... The characters: so far they are pretty darn interesting and captivating! Eveyone has their own flavor and I'm especially intrigued by Hanai. The VA wasn't bad, so I guess that counts as a positive. I wish more VNs had voices for the protagonists tho... sigh, but I guess I understand the reason as for why they don't. Negative The art is 50/50. I like some aspects of it, like the background art and the art for the protagonist and some girls, but most of them just look kinda derpy, especially those eyes lol Act 1 (before Ozaki's route) Oh boy... this vn is something special already. I love the flow, the characters, the writing, the songs, the philosophy aspects, everything! The art has grown on me, I admit. It made me smile, bang my head, cry my eyes out... It was the whole package. P.S.: Guess who's addicted to Gura Gura now ------------- Next week I'll be talking about Ozaki's route!

[Magical Eyes -Red is for anguish-] Soo, I've been reading this one for the past two weeks and wow, what a waste of time. Bah, at least now I know lol Also, it's funny how soft I was while writing the "first impressions" lmao First of all, to anyone who might be interested on this one: if you don't want to wait for a sequel that is yet to be released, don't bother to read it. Sure it has a story on its own, but the main characters don't even start developing. First Impressions Positive: The art!! Gosh, I find this art really good It's not as stunning as a lot of other vns I have played but it's still very pleasing to look at! The story and mechanics; the story is very chuuni-ish, I admit - but hey, if that's something you enjoy, go for it! I don't mind it but I don't love it either. And oh, there's a map and you can choose where to go... Kara no Shoujo flashbacks, oof- I hope it's not as "stressing" as that one. Negative: Definitely the sloppy writing. The descriptions are awkward, the English isn't the best and a lot of the sentences are very long, which usually isn't the best for both the English language and the readability of the game. After finishing the game... Everything was from bad to average. The OST was pretty forgettable; the background was awful, oof; the art was... ok? I don't know, it looked a little weird the more characters I saw, but it wasn't really bad; the writing was awful bad lmao almost every sentence is too dragged or long and it really affects one's reading experience and overall readability of the story. The narrative was very poor, to be frank... I don't know if it was the pace, but I felt utterly bored reading this; the dialogues are super generic, just like all characters; they look like they are trying so hard to be funny it hurts. Overall, I will give this one a solid 4/10. So, would I recommend it? Next week I'll be posting about Musicus!

[Marco and the Galaxy Dragon] This week I finished Marco and the Galaxy Dragon and dang! Another great vn that surpassed my expectations! I had already played the demo waaaay back when it released and was not bored, but I didn't expect it to hit me this hard in the feels near the end... First impressions first: I LOVE the art and the fact that almost every scene is a new CG (that explains the size of the whole vn) and the various animated parts The comedy is pretty over the top, normal for a vn, but it did make me laugh a few times; I'd be lying if it said I was bored, even for a slight second. Speaking of which, the thing I loved the most abt this vn is the pacing: so many vns end up either being VERY slow and dragged or just too quick to explain things and/or get attached to the characters and although this one is very fast in its pacing, you can still understand how each characters works. Sure, it could be better worked in some parts so you could feel more for some characters, but they all played their roles perfectly imo. It was so entertaining that time flew by and I didn't even notice! The ending left me destroyed and sobbing... It's not SUPER hard-hitting, but when it has to, it can make your eyes wet, at least. After that, it took me a while to recover and reflect on it. Aaah, it was such a good story... I'm really glad I played this one, since, except for Soundless (my previous read), I had been disappointed by the other vns I had read so far this year. Also, I absolutely love Gargouille's design I haven't decided what I'll read next week but until then, toodles!

[Soundless - A Modern Salem in Remote Area -] This week I finished Soundless, an amazing OEVN that surpassed my expectations! At first, even though this was a recommendation, I cringed a little at the art just because it wasn't as "perfect" as the other ones I played. However, I quickly got used to it and I'm glad that isn't usually enough to put me off because boy, oH BOY WAS I WRONG. Even though it never stopped being cruel, the game only started getting REALLY weird after a certain point; after that you won't be able to stop reading. I really liked the setting. Stories with religion involved aren't all that uncommon but still! The BGM doesn't feel too unique but that has its own charm, in a way, since a lot of the tense moments are almost silent, with a slight static noise. Overall, I'll give this an 8/10!
-
pfft I mean, I didn't say I hated it It wasn't "wow, amazing" but it wasn't bad either - I had fun. Sure, it was full of plotholes but for me, as long as I'm having fun and the plot isn't a complete whack, it's 7/10
-
I just finished reading Harmonia and boy, it was kinda disappointing ngl I was expecting more from Key, but it just felt like they recycled a lot, from the art (I know it's the same artist, but still-) to the plot. Even though I know it's the same artist as their other vns, it felt very generic when it comes to Key's works. There were two main things I HATED in this: the writing and the voice acting. The writing was just so damn plain it hurt. I know he's a robot and all but I don't know, they could have written it better; the voice acting was painful to listen to, oof- I tried to, but I had to mute all of their voices;;; Overall, I'd give it a 7/10. It wasn't anything special, but it was a nice little story, good enough not to be a 6 or lower. I'll probably read Soundless next!
-
I do, but mostly because the ones I've been reading are for my vn reading club and I like to take some notes for my little reviews on this thread haha
-
It won't be that hard for me lol jk I like Undertale but OMORI looks way more like the game I'd love very excited indeed
-
probably, I had the same experience lol it was really disappointing, oof
-
Oh boy, I really REALLY want to play that one It's been so long since I ever saw the first trailer, 6 or 5 years ago. I want to play it with my partner tho, so I'll wait a few months!
-
[Majikoi - Agave] Alrighty, I finished it. Phew. This... was something, alright. Next vn will probably be either Musicus! or another one that should be super short to read until Musicus is released in English
-
Fair enough. I wish they also made spin offs to the other routes. I think they did that to Kyou and Tomoyo? I think they adapted Kotomi's very superficially and barely touched Yukine's route
-
I've heard it is very good for Nagisa's route but the others were kinda neglected, which is a shame, since Nagisa is the girl I like the least lol
