Athens, Temporary capital of the once mighty Eastern Roman Empire:
Akropolis:
Rows upon rows of Soldiers stand arrayed at the square, staring up at the cliff of the majestic Parthenon. At the top, a human figure stand, wrapped in a heavy white cloak and wearing shiny imperial armour. When he gestures with his arms, everything goes silent.
"Soldiers! Constantinople has fallen, and the empire is in tatters! Barbarians are rampaging throughout the land, pillaging and destroying whatever they find!"
"I'm certain that all of you have felt the effects of this war... We have lost so much. Home! Family! Friends! Nothing is Sacred to these Huns; these howling barbarians! And yet no-one is resisting them! The Goths are too occupied mindlessly flailing at us, while the rest of Europe is busy fightning eachother! Only the Sassanids to the South are considering movement towards them, and that might not be enough!"
"To get to the heart of the matter, we must stop the huns! Forget the fall of Jerusalem, forget Eastern Rome! When the historians write about these events a thousand years from now on, will they write about a stagnant people desperately clinging to old glory; or will they write about us!? Eastern Rome is gone, long live the Hellenic League!!"
A mighty cheer rises up from the square, as the soldiers depart to battle. With new weapons, armour, and officers, the broken armies of eastern rome, are no more.
King Kata turns to the commanders behind him, and start to hurriedly give out orders:
"Send messengers to the Sassanids, tell them that we seek an alliance with them against the Huns."
"yes, my king"
"We cannot fight the huns, unless we take out the Goths first. Tell the armies to counterattack the Gothic army, anywhere possible."
"Yes, my king"
"And lastly, send a messenger to the Vandals... Tell them that one of their old kings seeks their allegiance once more."
"But my king, why attempt to ally with the Sassanids, who are partly responsible for our downfall in the first place?"
"Simply because that to win, we need more soldiers, not grudges. While I would have preferred an alliance with the Goths as well, they are currently a pressing matter, and we need to defend against them. Preferably by recapturing our lost territory."
"Yes, My king!"
"May the lord watch over us, in our hour of need. Glory to the league."
