  1. Yeah, I'll skip these at least for now. Yeah, I played it. I said it on the first post too First two look similar in gameplay to Hyperdimension Neptunia or am I wrong? Second one especially. The last one I'll check out sometime. The gameplay doesn't look like what I'm looking for, but the art looks interesting and the ratings on vndb are quite high. I look forward to seeing what you come up with, but I probably have at least tried most of single player RPGs and a lot of strategy games on PC. Thanks for the information. So both Ar games are out for me, since Nosurge is on PS3 and Tonelico third game is on PS3 as well. I really wouldn't like to end it on a cliffhanger and I don't intend to buy a PS3
  2. The "I want something shorter" only extends to moe and charage. For example - Chrono Clock. A vn I can easily go through in a weekend and pick up a few cute girls in the process, but If it was longer, I wouldn't have the patience for it. For games, or visual novels that actually have a good story, I say the longer the better. Even if it's 100+ hours of game/read time. And I tried Sakura Dungeon already and I didn't like it much.
  3. Following up on Virtue's Last Reward: Despite all the negative things I said about it, the characters (mostly Phi and Tenmyouji) helped me get through the worst parts and I became really invested in the story at some point. The ending was solid with a few twists I expected and some that caught me completely unaware. Also many of the faults that I found were either somewhat alleviated or completely fixed. It's still not perfect, but I really feel like I've enjoyed it now that it's over. On to Zero Time Dilemma! I am a bit worried that it doesn't have a vndb entry, but I'm way too curious now. E: Played Zero Time Dilemma for 10 minutes
  4. Thanks for the additional suggestions Dark_blade64 and Templarseeker. Ar Tonelico and Ar Nosurge look like playstation exclusives. I don't know if emulating them is possible, but I'll add them to my plan to read list for now. I don't think I'll touch them soon though as Fire Emblem takes all of my "gaming" time and I still watch anime/play other VNs so I'm set for a good while. As for Hyperdimension Neptunia and Agarest, I actually have played them both already. HN for around 10 hours and Agarest for more than 40, but dropped them both. I'm not the biggest fan of the type of gameplay that Neptunia has (I also played Fairy Fencer F, but I managed to finish that) and Agarest had weird combat mechanics (like standing in particular tiles to combo up) and a lot of "filler" battles that took a long time to complete, had no story part to them and were easy, so it felt tedious after a while. Moekuri may be something I'd like, but it might be too much moe for me. I don't mind it in short moege sometimes, but if the game is long I'd get sick of it. Littlewitch may be interesting too, but I don't really see the gameplay aspect of it. What is it that you do in that game? And lastly, I don't have anything against OELVN. I like the anime art and Japanese voice acting, but the best RPG and strategy games that I've played are all western, so if there are some OELVN hybrids that are good, feel free to recommend me them.
  5. Ha, I guess I'll check the video once I'm playing Binding Blade then
  6. I thought there were only character endings (the little texts about what everyone was doing after the game) that depends on what supports I get for which characters. Is there an overall "good ending" as opposed to normal ending that depends on what I do, or are you talking about specific characters?
  7. Played 999 when the forum was down and currently in progress with Virtue's Last Reward. Have to say I expected much more from it. The setting being something between Ever17 and Danganronpa sounded amazing to me, but it just doesn't sit that well with me. The things I didn't like (spoilers from 999 and some from VLR):
  8. Wanted to say that I started Fire Emblem. I love the fantasy setting and the gameplay is pretty much everything I ever wanted (even restarting an hour long chapter due to unfortunate critical hit from the boss). I don't know why I didn't try it sooner, it's not like I was unaware of the series. Recommendation here was enough of a push and I am really happy I got into it though there are a few things I don't really enjoy like side characters being pretty boring (they look interesting when they join, but they get only a few lines through support conversations throughout the games). It was even worse in Shadow Dragon where even pretty important characters didn't talk much and side characters only had their joining scenes. I'd prefer smaller cast, but with more dialogue, though I guess with permadeath the current setup is pretty much it. I still intend to play every game I can get my hands on (except 1-3) because the gameplay is so fun. So far I've played: Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (currently in progress)
  9. Making my way through Fairy Tail 2014 at the moment. It's not the best anime I've ever seen by some distance, but it is really quite enjoyable to watch on an evening after long day when you just want some mindless fun. I particularly like the vast cast, so there are at least a few characters I like in almost every episode.
  10. I actually liked the art, except for the fact it was hidden behind a NVL wall.
  11. So, I finished Crescendo already. I loved pretty much all characters and the fact the routes were varied in atmosphere: From very light pure romance route to a very dark one and some in between. Usually it's either all routes happy go lucky, or every one of them really gloomy. Few things that annoyed me though: The worst thing though was it was way too short. There wasn't enough time to get attached to any of the girls before the climax of their respective stories and then it ended without much of an epilogue. I felt like a lot of potential was wasted because the game really grabbed me from day 1, but it doesn't feel that satisfying after I've finished it.
  12. Tried Sakura Dungeon yesterday and a bit today. As expected the story and the characters were, to put it very mildly, weak, but the idea itself was fun, so I thought the gameplay and nice, colorful art would be enough for me to have fun, but it was very simple and repetitive, so I just thought I had enough after around 5 hours. Decided to try out Crescendo instead and at the moment I am loving it a lot. I went through Kaho's bad end only as of this post, but it looks really promising. In most romance mainly focused VN there are usually just one heroine that stands out from the crowd for me, two if I am very lucky, but here all the heroines look interesting and pretty different from each other. Some of them look like I may hate them (one at least) but it's much better than boring.
  13. That looks exactly like what I was looking for. Will give it a shot, thanks. It completely slipped my radar since it is not on vndb (it looks like it was at one point).
  14. I'll try out the Shin Megami Tensei, Phantasy Star and Fire Emblem. I'll wait until I've read Tsukihime for the Battle Moon Wars and the Circus RPGs are only in Japanese so they'll have to wait too. Thanks a lot! I think I got a lot of stuff to check out from this.
  15. What would be good entry points to these series? They all look to have A LOT of games. I would like to not jump into it from the midpoint in the story, but I don't think I can stomach the very earliest games. I'll try the Battle Moon Wars, thanks. And what is the Circus RPG-VN is called? I can only find things with no english releases. I should be fine with that I think.
  16. Thank you all for the suggestions, much appreciated. Is any of this on PC though? I looked and almost all of them are console exclusive. That looks a bit too old for me. :/ And interface patches I will leave for when my Japanese is a little better, thanks for the suggestions though. Yeah, rape really rubs me the wrong way, especially if it's the protagonist doing it. Also Evenicle also has rape? I didn't know that and I was looking forward to it Sakura Dungeon looks really good visually and if it has good gameplay, great. Galaxy Angel looks like it could be a great hit or a total miss for me, I hope it's the former. Thanks for these two.
  17. Hello, I am looking for a Visual Novel that has RPG or Strategy elements and a good story. I have been through all the vndb with this query a few times, but I don't think I can find any more. Things I've read/played: Utawarerumono (Loved it) Eien no Aselia/Seinarukana (The gameplay wasn't fun enough to do more than one route, but I loved the idea and I had a lot of fun in the first route of both games) Kamidori Alchemy Meister (Gameplay was one of the best I've seen (I'm a sucker for grid based strategy) but the story was poor, so I got bored doing the second playthrough) Tears To Tiara Castle Fantasia Koihime Musou (Didn't like it, waiting for SKM to be translated) Yumina The Ethereal (Didn't like it either) I also know of Eiyuu Senki. Is there something I've missed? I only looked at fully translated japanese ones on vndb, so my blind spots are: not fully translated, but playable VNs (maybe Ikusa Megami series or Monster Girl Quest Paradox are playable?), english VNs and stuff that is not on vndb. I only have PC though, so Utawarerumono sequels and Tears To Tiara 2 are sadly no go. P.S. I am aware of Rance series and Bunny Black, but rape is a major turnoff for me.
  18. People talking about Utawarerumono makes me a little sad. Is there a chance that parts 2 and 3 will someday come to PC? Loved the first one and would love to play some more RPG/VN hybrids that are any good. On topic: I played Edelweiss this weekend and wasn't too impressed. Horrible translation might have something to do with it, but I didn't find anything interesting about it outside the fact that it had a teacher's route. Eiden Fantasia had much better translation and I liked Sakura's route, but Rin's route was just retarded.
  19. Hello people, I have been reading some topics here and there, and stared to follow the VNTS weekly posts so I thought I'd say hi. No idea how long I'll stick here though Been reading visual novels for a few years now and started to go to Japanese classes a while ago to be able to read stuff that will probably never get translated, but a pretty busy schedule means that I don't really have the time to read any VNs. The irony. I had almost a year break from VN altogether, however, recently, during a two week holiday, I read through the entirety of Grisaia and got really hooked again. I honestly think that VNs are one of the best medium for stories and if anyone has something to recommend please PM me (although I have many VNs I want to read anyway and not much time to do so). Some of my favorite VNs: Muv Luv saga Steins Gate Fate/Stay Night Danganronpa Grisaia Utawarerumono Ever17 よろしく E: Apparently I have no idea how this forum works and I posted in the wrong section.
