A list of notable digital artist v-tubers (English-speaking)
Plk_Lesiak commented on Plk_Lesiak's blog entry in EVN Chronicles' V-tube Corner
Well, this is a thing now, I guess. '^^ Seriously though, I am working on VN-related projects, but also I would be lying to myself if I didn't acknowledge the degree to which v-tubing is part of my weeb interests right now, and the thing that brought me back to any kind of creative activity. I won't be making many posts on this blog, but I might use it in the future for an interview or two, or something similar to this list if I find another theme that interests me enough. I hope that some of you will find it more interesting than annoying~ -
A list of notable digital artist v-tubers (English-speaking)
Plk_Lesiak posted a blog entry in EVN Chronicles' V-tube Corner
Hello and welcome to my list of digital artist v-tubers! This project is something I've started mostly for myself, while trying to find v-tubers that make art streams and other art-related content in English – something I personally enjoy but is rarely promoted within the main agencies and among most popular creators. As I only know basic Japanese, the list will focus on v-tubers that put out at least some of their content in English, with other cases delegated to honourable mentions. It will also be very subjective when it goes to in which order the v-tubers are presented and which of them get highlighted. The main logic behind it is whether they are, or are likely to be good sources of art-related content in the future. Some might disagree on my choices and that is fine. Beyond the blatant favouritism, I will try to keep the list relatively comprehensive and to keep it updated as new creators debut or graduate/stop posting content. The format of the list first refers to the v-tuber's main handle (with as link to their YouTube or Twitch account), then their affiliation and finally the primary languages they stream in. I hope you find the list useful and interesting to explore – let's appreciate artist v-tubers together! Ninomae Ina'nis | Hololive | English – Ina is probably the most dedicated artist v-tuber, with frequent art streams, tutorials, art collabs... Also extremely skilful and able to keep up the conversation while drawing. Her content is known for its pleasant, relaxing atmosphere. Airani Iofifteen | Hololive | Indonesian/English/Japanese – while Ina produces most art-related content of anyone within Hololive (and possibly even beyond HL), Iofi is the only artist-themed v-tuber I know of and is probably a close second when it goes to output. Her streams have less of Bob Ross-esque, cozy quality of Ina's content, but are still consistently pleasant to watch and she definitely knows what she's doing. She's also particularly fluent in English and Japanese and can be seen in collabs on many Japanese-speaking channels. Apricot (Froot) | Independent/VShojo | English – the British Succubus Lich definitely has the potential to challenge Ina when it goes to soothing qualities of her content. Her voice and personality are very cosy and her drawing skills extremely solid – unlike most EN artist v-tubers, she's an animation major rather than a hobbyist. Her first art streams were a bit slow, with her struggling to share attention between drawing and interacting with the viewers, but she seems to be getting used to the formula and will likely be a great source of content in foreseeable future. Cecile | Independent | English – an artist publishing speed-paints and other art content on YouTube who recently expanded into v-tubing. Has a semi-realistic, detailed style and is very art-focused in her output so far. Created her own avatar and publishes drawings online. Hana Macchia | Nijisanji | Indonesian/English/Japanese – the star of the Indonesian branch of Nijisanji is not primarily known for being an artist, but as a graphical design student she's been creating that kind of content occasionally since her debut, with both drawing streams and tutorials. She also collabs with other artist v-tubers of Nijisanji. Other then that, she's a versatile streamer with good grasp on English, Indonesian and Japanese, creating content in all three languages. Chiika | Independent | English – an experienced digital artist drawing mostly in cute, chibi-like style (but not exclusively so). Does frequent art streams, with a relatively consistent schedule overall. She created her own avatar. Kani Kanizawa | Independent | English – another British vtuber that has a long background in creating digital art and publishes her work online. She also created her own avatar. Didn't do art streams until recently due to equipment issues, but is likely to lean into that kind of content more in the future. Honourable mentions (English-speaking): Yueko | Independent | English – another long-time online artist that recently branched out into v-tubing. Infrequent streams with both gaming and art content, occasionally without using the avatar. Nana Nanatsuki | Independent | English – a popular online artist with clear focus on art streams. However, she went on hiatus soon after debuting. Calliope Mori | Hololive | English – Calli is another Hololive talent with vast experience in art and animation, but who only recently started to utilize it in her streams. Kuzuryu Io | Independent | English – mostly publishes simple lineart and chibi drawings. Does art streams, but with an overall shaky schedule. Minamoto Arisa | Independent | English/Indonesian/Japanese – an Indonesian v-tuber with a relatively large amount of content, but small following. Frequent art streams and posts art online. Valefor | Independent | English – a male v-tuber artist with an unusual, armor-clad persona. Frequent art streams and puts out an impressive amount of high-quality drawings on social media. Hazard Hornet | Independent | English – male v-tuber drawing in a less traditional anime style, with robots and mecha being a prevalent theme. Frequent art streams and posts art online. Shinomiya | Independent | English – a versatile artist putting out mostly drawing streams. Often invites in/chats with other v-tubers during her drawing sessions. 2wintails | Independent | English – artist and animator/modeller with content connected to both digital drawing and Live2D models and rigging. Fairly regular schedule. Fuwa | Independent | English – artist with high focus on drawing streams and a cute style. Produces a lot of content and keeps a consistent schedule. Paprika Gallus | Independent | English – frequent art streams, tutorials etc. – stylistically and content-wise slightly more detached from otaku culture. Stalkeralker | Independent | English – draws in a relatively simple, cute style and publishes art regularly on social media. Rare drawing streams. Vyolfers | Independent | English – an artist making drawing streams and quick-draws on a semi-regular basis. Large focus on Hololive fanart. Moona Hoshinova | Hololive | Indonesian/English – Moona is a decent artist, but she very rarely leans into that kind of content. It's quite fun when she does, however, and there always might be more of it in the future. Momo | Independent | English – Momo very rarely draws on stream, but shares art on social media – usually sketches/doodles. Outside of drawing, she likely has some of the best singing skills I've seen in all of v-tubing (not an exaggeration). Honourable mentions (non-English-speaking): Pochimaru | Independent | Japanese – professional mangaka and author of Pavola Reine's model. She does very frequent art streams. Collabs often with Iofi and other artist v-tubers. Shigure Ui | Independent | Japanese – relatively regular art content, but with limited output overall (around a single video a week). Her illustrations are of very high-quality and she created her own avatar. Natsume Eri | Independent | Japanese – a professional artist with nearly two decades of experience, including in visual novels/eroge. Very likeable, relatively active and with scary endurance: she once made a nearly 10-hour long art stream. Aoi Nabi | Independent | Korean/Japanese – professional artist and author of Amelia Watson's and Amatsuka Uto's models, among others. Created her own avatar and streams mostly art-related content. Konbu Wakame | Independent | Japanese – professional mangaka with predominantly art-related content, but a very scarce uploading schedule (usually 1-2 videos per month). Ayamy | Independent | Japanese – professional artist with a decent variety of content and frequent art streams. Author of Yozora Mel's model, alongside other v-tuber related work. Natori Sana | Independent | Japanese – a long-time v-tuber with a large variety of content and regular art streams. Uses a cute, predominantly chibi-like style. Mizuryu | Independent | Japanese – the very rare male artist v-tuber. Unlike most streamers, he primarily does comics rather than stand-alone pieces. Kagura Nana | Independent | Japanese – occasional art streams & posts art online. She's made a single English stream in the past, but primarily does content in Japanese. Also, produces a lot of music videos/covers. Houshou Marine | Hololive | Japanese – Marine was for a long time known to be a talented artist, however actual streams with her utilizing those skills are pretty rare. Amicia Michella & Siska Leontyne | Nijisanji | Indonesian – lesser-known members of Nijisanji ID also do art content, but sadly never in either English or Japanese. Hoshimachi Suisei | Hololive | Japanese – being a competent artist is among Suisei's many talents, however she seemed to have dropped drawing streams after transferring to Hololive proper. If you've scrolled this far, thank you for checking out the blogpost! As mentioned before, I will try to keep the list up-to-date, but it depends on how much time I will have to research v-tube stuff. I know publishing it here slightly limits the possibility of leaving feedback, but if you have suggestions or want to recommend a v-tuber I didn't include, feel free to PM me on Twitter or Reddit. So, Coffee Talk... I want to say it's a bit slow-burn, because it did got better after the midpoint of the story, but it's also too short to really get in-depth with any of its subplots. Also, dialogue never stopped being a bit dry and devoid of humour. The comedy relief character, the alien, got a few funny lines, but in the end, the game lacked impact both when it tried to be witty and when it tried to be dramatic. Also because it has little going for it outside of dialogue – the artstyle is cool, but not really captivating or expressive and the gameplay... I can't say I liked much about it. It relies not as much on knowing what to serve and using proper ingredients as on adding stuff in proper order which is rarely intuitive. You have little time to learn what your regulars like and the process of finding the right drink is more trial-and-error than anything. I mean, I love coffee (and tea) so I don't know how the game made experimenting with it unappealing but somehow it managed. There was a rare good puzzle or two in there, but overall, I wished this hole primary-secondary-tertiary ingredient system burned in hell. From what I've seen even endless mode failed to do anything interesting with the mechanics... Well, at least the main subplots weren't bad and the extras were cool. Also, the music was objectively speaking really cool. Ultimately, a 6,5/10. It has its charm (and maybe I just got spoiled by VA-11 Hall-A) but I think it could've done both its specific storylines and the concept of being a barista a lot better.

Hej! ^^ So, Perceverence part 2? I honestly didn't expect it will ever come, it was while since the initial chapter came out. Happy to hear you guys are still working on it though.
-
And continuing with unfair comparisons, I've started going through Coffee Talk, the VA-11 Hall-A rip-off... And I'm starting to think it was a bad idea to give it a try straight after finishing the latter. It's quite stylish and interesting with the modern-fantasy approach to the mundane theme of being a barista, but it's just really hard to compete with VA-11 Hall-A's writing and atmosphere. The biggest issue is probably the protagonist being a complete blank slate, at least as far as I've seen. While Jill is reserved in her interaction with her clients most of the time, the personality and backstory she brings into the game make everything that happens in it more meaningful. Her backroom interactions with Dana and Gil were always funny and build up to interesting side stories. Here, you have just this self-insert owner and clients who are quite often talking with each other rather than with the protagonist. It's a lot of subtle differences that result in the whole formula feeling tepid, rather than captivating, despite visuals and music that could possibly carry it. But maybe it will get better further down the line...
-
So, I'm done with VA-11 Hall-A, outside of the prologue chapters. I think it only lacks a more powerful ending and a bit more fleshing out of some secondary characters – with that it would be a 10/10 contender, but I still give it a strong 9/10. Even the gameplay showed a little bit more depth than I initially though – you not only get awarded for learning your clients' tastes, but also should actually care about making them leave as much money as possible, pushing bigger and more expensive drinks. It's a very low-key, but fun kind of puzzle, rewarding you with the ability to buy all kinds of thematic junk for Jill's apartment. And while I might complain about episodic characters being... too episodic, the game also surprised me with some stuff. Particularly with how deep the subplot of the ghost girl from the demo went. It was weirdly satisfying. ^^ To be fair, I don't hate them, I just never felt they had the same amount of substance as AA trials. Those were also over-the-top and silly, but felt more like an actual battle of wits, while the wit of anyone in that Danganronpa trial room was highly questionable. xD Also, some parts of the gameplay, like rhythm-game sections, are something I'm criminally bad at, so I think I'd end up playing on casual and still feeling they were pointless. Plus, while I generally like the cast, the whole thing lacks a proper focus on main characters. Kyoko is cool, but she's an enigma for most of the game and Makoto... Uh, he's hardly anything. I mean, he's somewhat believable as random dumb kid being used as a tool by Kyoko, so she can keep a low profile, but that's hardly a satisfying role to play.

Hello and Welcome to Fuwa! It's definitely not our all-time high when it goes to activity, but I guess it's all relative. ^^

So, as actually reading stuff is apparently beyond my mental capacities lately, I'm slowly watching through two long playthroughs. The first one is Danganronpa and while there are things I definitely like about it, I kind of find most of its interactivity a bit obnoxious. While the limited game mechanics of Ace Attorney were more like tools to get you involved in the story, setting it much closer to visual novel territories, the Danganronpa trials, repetition involved and puzzles... I never felt they added to the experience. Also, the levels of dumb in characters' behaviour somehow got on my nerves a bit. I heard that the translation of the first game is generally considered poor, but I'm not how much that could break outside of some cultural appropriation that I was able to decipher and which didn't really change that much. It's stylish, well-produced and occasionally quite funny, but rarely genuinely smart or surprising. Shaping into something like a 7/10 rather than a real classic. And I'm kind of surprised by this impression, because I hold Ace Attorney in much higher regard and through it would be able to capture that charm in slightly more-mature format. Maybe the sequel will grip me a bit more? Now part of me just wants to replay euphoria for some genuine death game action. VA-11 HALL-A on the other hand do not disappoint me in the slightest. Non-intrusive game mechanics, massive focus on dialogue and atmosphere... It's gloomy with its cyberpunk setting, but at the same time massively a feel-good game that let's you immerse yourself in its world and slowly get to know its characters, building towards more meaningful developments with subtle hints and seemingly trivial conversations. I don't think there's a single character introduced so far that I didn't enjoy on some level and it's interesting to see the deeper stories developing from this mostly-detached perspective of a bartender. It's hard for me to find anything to complain about here – not sure whether the concept itself was done before by any notable game, but its execution is just so good here... I'll be surprised if I don't feel like giving it at least 9/10 by the end. Oh, and by the way, VA-11 HALL-A in now available on game pass for PC. If you want to cheese it, the first month of subscription literally costs $1, so you can read VA-11 HALL-A and probably finish a few other games virtually for free if you cancel before 30 days.

Welcome to Fuwanovel! Your project looks quite interesting, but the $35k feels super-ambitious for today's Kickstarter... I hope you can make it happen.

Burning down the Capitol – Yay or Nay?
Plk_Lesiak replied to Plk_Lesiak's topic in The Coliseum of Chatter
Politics? I though of it more as an aesthetic choice. -
To be clear, I mean just the building, assuming there are no people inside. I'm slightly gravitating towards "yay", because the whole thing is clearly useless. Also, I never had a tour inside, but I saw the building from the outside and I'm satisfied with that. So, what are your thoughts guys? Be honest. ^^

Most of Akina Nakamori's songs hit Spotify and YouTube Music. This sure boosted my mood in this ugly, gloomy week. :3 Now, please excuse me while I go through this 170 track compilation... -
I will take off the hat after I take down my Christmas tree. So, probably in March.

What Video Games Are You Playing Right Now?
Plk_Lesiak replied to solidbatman's topic in Gaming Talk
Finished Code Vein! Meaning I've completed the best route and all the base game optional content, the DLCs proved too much of a pain for me – I guess I don't have the patience to play soulslikes seriously after all and the extra levels had no story. However, for what the "casual" experience (playing on normal difficulty with a companion) offered, it was all really satisfying. It was at time challenging, but never frustratingly so and the versatility of the gaming mechanics was great. It was extremely convenient to switch between various builds and play styles, and resources & gear necessary for that were easily accessible, meaning you can experiment to your heart's content. I didn't even grind anything outside of getting lost on two particular levels and killing the same mobs multiple times there – people joke about finding your way in the Cathedral level being the most difficult boss of the game and they're definitely onto something. However, the story probably deserves a deeper comment, because I really didn't expect to like it at the beginning. However, despite being filled with various brands of over-the-top anime BS, the game does something really interesting. At first you're just confronted with the apocalyptic setting and tons of abstract lore dropped at you all at once, but then the mechanic of gaining new abilities is fully tied with relieving other people's memories and experiencing their struggles during and after the apocalypse. It's cheesy, but a lot of those memories are interconnected and relevant for player's quest. You get a good look at both your allies and the antagonists (there's really just one villain in the game, and he's not even the main focus of everything – everything else is just tragedy on top of tragedy and trying to repair things that went wrong in humanity's last-ditch efforts of survival)... And soon everything starts feeling personal and decently fleshed out. If there was a bit more definition to the protagonist, this could've been a pretty decent chuunige. :3 Especially because it was all really stylish and gloriously edgy, particularly those scenes of reliving memories... 8/10, play it with Game Pass, don't buy the DLC unless you're a Soulslike fanatic and are looking for pain. Now I'll probably let the Xbox rest for a while and get back to my other weeb hobbies properly... -
Well, 2020 was utter shit, but it's over now (at least here in Europe) and the new year has a real chance to be better. So, congrats everyone on surviving this madness and I wish you all a wonderful 2021, one that will make us all forget the crap we went through!

Tsukihime remake to be released in Summer 2021

In what way better? For Type-Moon maybe, as digital PS and Switch copies are hard to pirate, but other than that... -
Tsukihime remake to be released in Summer 2021
Plk_Lesiak replied to Inorin's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Indeed, though they could've slapped the PS5 logo there anyway, it just feel anachronistic to omit it. At least it will premiere for both in practise, with PC it feels like Type-Moon shitting on its old fan base, but I guess that doesn't matter much considering how their franchises evolved and isn't anything new either. -
Tsukihime remake to be released in Summer 2021
Plk_Lesiak replied to Inorin's topic in Visual Novel Talk
PS4 and Switch? I guess saying PS5 is not necessary, since it will be backwards-compatible anyway, but it's still weird to ignore current gen with this kind of release date... New anime wouldn't call itself a remake though? It would just pretend the first version never existed, just like the Type-Moon fanbase does. -
All Best Wishes to @bakauchuujin the Collector! Sorry for being late, hope you had a great day yesterday. :3

Stellaren (mobile-exclusive VN review)
Plk_Lesiak commented on Plk_Lesiak's blog entry in EVN Chronicles
It might not be popular, but it hold an important place in my heart. ^^ I don't think there's much difference between the early episodic releases and the full game – the endings were likely implemented in the final release, because they rely on tracking your choices throughout the whole thing, but the story is still very much linear, with choices either getting you a game over or influencing scenes immediately after them in minor ways + giving you affection points. Also the endings are just one CG each with a little bit of story, showing the protagonist ending with one of the main three girls (the K. ending being canon). You're not missing out on much if you never experienced them.
