Meanwhile in Clannad... This game broke me already and it didn't even start for real yet ;v; This is gonna be a doozy, isn't it...? Bonus: I still love him tho X'3

Finally got started with Clannad. Too bad that I can only read it when I'm home alone, since I keep screaming at the screen... Yeah, I don't take second-hand embarrassment too well, and Sunohara is the goshdarned master of it. I mean, I like him - he's like that small dumb puppy that thinks it's a wolf and keeps getting chased by the neighbor's bulldog... But damn, are some of the scenes where he gets in trouble hard to read (for me, at least). Also, both him and Tomoya are arseholes. Likable arseholes, but still arseholes. I don't really have an opinion on the girls yet, since I've only met 4 so far, and just for a little while each (Tomoyo and the dorm mom whose name I don't remember yet seem pretty cool, tho). I wonder what's the deal with the dead world, too. It seems so out of place... We'll see, we'll see. Ah, as a side note - I've finished Kokonoe Kokoro the other day. Man, was it painfully generic. I don't think that the script was even written with having a monster girl heroine in mind, it was just the plainest, most boring high school romance I've ever read. The fact that Kokoro is a giant fuckin' grasshopper didn't come up even once! I know that it'll sound pathetic, but I'm disappointed. Like yeah, I know, what the heck did I expect, but if Hatoful Boyfriend could do it, then Kokonoe Kokoro could too. Shame.

Most of it will probably repeat what other people said already, but here goes: - Pick VNs that your attention span can handle. - Try to read only one VN at a time. If it's long, you can break it up here and there with shorter ones, but be careful not to overdo it. - Take breaks. Nobody can stay interested forever. - Read because you want to, not because you "have to". If you push it, you'll probably lose interest completely. - Be a completionist by nature. I know it can't be helped, but if you are, you're in luck (?).

Since my classes are canceled for the next two weeks (thanks, climate change!), I finally have the time to do some reading. Here’s what I’ve been up to: Bad End. It was decent. I liked the story well enough, and the mystery of a killing game kept me interested throughout. The characters, while not all that interesting, were at least sympathetic enough not to turn me off. That being said, I have some minor complaints, so spoilers, I guess? NOBY. Yeah, I’m still slogging through this one. To be honest, I’ve lost most interest in it. The girls’ routes just aren’t as engaging to me as Ryo’s was, I suppose… Plus, the errors kinda started bugging me (get it?!). I’ve finished Yui’s route since last time and am getting through Shiro’s. I don’t have all that much to say, except: Legends of Talia: Arcadia. Oh yeah, that one. I’ve read that one as well. Um… The dragon was pretty cool. I mean, have you ever seen an uncool dragon? Thought not. Hmm… Yeah, that’s it. I got nothin’.

Six Days of Snow maybe? ^^ Dunno it's all that heartwarming, tho...

Let's see... For me, it's more or less like this: 10 - absolute God-tier VN. Almost flawless, unique, fantastic story and characters, beautiful art and music, just does (almost) everything right. I have not yet found anything worthy of a perfect 10. 9 - a fantastic VN with little or non-offensive flaws. Similar to 10, but whereas a 10 has pretty much achieved perfection, a 9 still has some way to go. Still, it has to be amazing to get this rating. 8 - a very, VERY good VN. It does a lot right, but in some aspects it falls short. Even still, its flaws don't ruin the fun in any way, tho they are more noticeable than in previous tiers. 10-8 are generally rather similar, as they're the cream of the cream of VNs. 7 - a good, solid VN. Well-crafted, but has something that keeps it from accessing the highest tiers. Perhaps it's generic, or perhaps the characters or story are nothing special. Either way, I would absolutely recommend checking it out. 6 - a VN that is above average. Does not necessarily mean it's very good, just better than most of the others. You can check it out if you want, you can definitely do much worse than this one. 5 - a VN that is absolutely, painfully average. It has nothing that make it stand out, and if it does, something on the technical side of things drag it down. It’s just… another one. That’s probably the best way to put it. Just another one of those. At least it makes a good Litmus test for other works. 4 - a VN that is below average. Honey, no, what are you doing, you were so close…! Unfortunately, something went wrong along the way, making this VN a little bit worse than most. That doesn’t mean that it’s awful, but it certainly won’t be making it’s way into any of my recommended lists… 3 - a bad VN. Just not good at all. The plot makes no sense, the characters are paper-thin, it’s not engaging… Perhaps there’s one or two good things about it, but overall, it’s garbage. Don’t waste your time. It’s not even “so bad it’s good”, it’s just plain bad. 2 - a trash VN. Just, garbage. Don’t even bother, it’s effin’ awful. Who made this. Who thought that it would be a good idea. Holy crap. Although, with the right mindset and enough alcohol it might be amusing in it’s awfulness. If you’re willing to risk it, that is. 1 - the most hellish, ungodly abomination of the VN world. You thought that the Necronomicon is the only written work that’ll make you go mad? Think again. Just… Stay away. Stay away and try to forget about its existence. Then again, in the end it's all based on my opinion, so don't take it too seriously XD

Boi, I've been waiting for this! Finally got my hands on Clannad, Fruit of Grisaia, Nurse Love Addiction, Miniature Garden and the last three Higurashi chapters that I've been missing ^^ I'm eyeing some other stuff too, but I have to keep some spare change for food... So I guess I'll try again next month ;v; I should have enough material to last me til then, tho XD

What Sources Do You Use to Find New VN's?
Alcorin replied to mitchhamilton's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I mostly play on Steam, so I just scan the VN tag and publishers' pages regularly ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I like to check their blogs and Twitters too... And of course Fuwa as well! -
How many people cares for physical copies?
Alcorin replied to bakauchuujin's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I like physical stuff and I'd buy some VNs that way if I could ;w; As of right now I only have one physical copy (of Hakuoki), since no one bothers to release VNs where I live... And shipping them from abroad is too expensive for me ;v; -
OP song is there now, it jumps out at you outta nowhere, but isn't too bad. The H-scenes allegedly exist in a patch somewhere out there, idk, didn't - and wouldn't - bother, as apparently they aren't very good either way. Still no voice acting or routes other than the ones that have been there since launch. There are afterstories, tho (and judging from what I've read those have been patched in after the initial release). The game is still buggy as hell, too. Yup, reading the review confirms that my standards are at an all-time low XD Then again, a thing doesn't have to be good to be enjoyable, I suppose ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-
Slowly getting trough No One But You... Truth be told, I bought it solely because the male best friend (Ryo) has a route XD I know that it doesn't have the best reputation, but ehh... I kinda like it? I admit, I might just be biased because Ryo turned out to be basically me with a weiner and a tad worse home life... Like, seriously. The similarities are almost uncanny o.O I like the other characters well enough too, even tho I'm only on my second route (Yui is best girl). Heck, even the protagonist is pretty cool, at least in my opinion. Maybe my standards are just painfully low, but whatevs, I'm having fun ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ahh, thank you all for the welcome and recommendations! Now I won't have to worry about having nothing to read on the long winter evenings :3 I hope I'll be able to talk to you about those when I finish them~!

Nice to meet you :3 I'm a new lurker here, adding to the ever-growing list of people too shy to speak up even on the Internet. I may have opinions on things, sure, but I'm always afraid that I'm not informed enough to speak them. I've been reading and loving VNs for some four years now (starting with Hakuoki in 2014), but I actually hadn't read 99% of the stuff that everyone is gushing about, like Fate/Stay Night or Steins;Gate... It's a rather awkward position to be in, to be honest ^^' (I'm getting to it, I swear, I'm just REALLY slow). If you have any BL or yuri recommendations, please let me know, I love that stuff :3 (I’d prefer if it wasn’t too sexualized, but I can deal if it is). Or heck, just recommend anything good, I’m not biased towards anything (other than porn). Bonus points for interesting protagonists, friends-to-lovers and bromance. What else to say… I’m an avid shipper. Like, really. I can ship literally anything, especially if it has no chance of becoming canon :’) It’s gotten to the point where I had to make a list just to keep track of it all. I speak Polish and English (and some VERY basic German), hope to learn Japanese and Spanish once I’m through with college (English and game design, if you were curious - a strange combination, I know). I like to write, by which I mean that I’m awful at it and I hate everything I make, but it’s fun to come up with stuff so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Every song can be improved by a Metal cover, period. Dark Souls and Hakuoki are the only games I’ve bought twice, I just love them too much <3 And, umm… Ok, that’s it. I’ve kept you long enough. Let’s have some fun!
