My tastes in VNs:

Action VNs

Nakige

Strong-willed, intelligent, generally capable protagonists

Voiced protagonists

Good or clever utilization of cliches

Tsukkomi-boke humor (yes, it is a cliche but it is one that works consistently for a reason)

Good AND properly used music (emphasis on the latter, as even the best bgm is pointless if improperly utilized and even the worst or most generic bgm can be magnificent if put in the right place)

My VN pet-peeves:

gameplay that is work rather than a spice to the rest of the game

G-Senjou style story structure

frequent changing of protagonists, several main protagonists

Mindless moege

Stupid protagonists

hetare protagonists

rape (while I can take the occasional scene, I loathe games focused on it)

bdsm (never saw the point)

excessive appeals to lolicons (minor annoyance rather than game-breaker)

excessive appeals to breast-obsessed teenagers (another minor annoyance)

Too many stupid heroines

Poorly-utilized cliches

Stories focused around entertainment industry or sports (can make exceptions for combat sports like kendo, naginata and kenjutsu because of personal obsession)
