This thread has last seen activity in Dec 2019 so forgive me. I wanted to chime in. I remember seeing a visual novel that was about MMORPGs or something like that. I don't remember how it is called but it looked really good and I wish there was an English translation. I believe it was translated to Chinese. I'd really, really like to see a translation of Kintouka (https://vndb.org/v13882) I have no clue if this is any good but judging by the ratings, it is. Kintouka seems like a fairly normal yaoi story for once. The art style is beautiful as well. There's a lot of boys' love that is extreme, and I'm not always in the mood for that so it would be a nice change of pace. Comic Party (https://vndb.org/v177) is another one that was never translated. I have never read it but I read a review praising the game eons ago. The concept itself is rather interesting - the MC is a doujinshi creator. There are manga, anime and other visual novels with the same idea but I bet that in 1999 when this was conceived it was fresh.

Hi, so I'm trying to run this game on a potato with integrated graphics. Is it possible to bypass this error/startup check? I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. Every time I start up the game, I get an error saying "Environment not supported. There is a possibility that it will not start up normally". It brings up a window with graphics settings but I can't click "OK" to proceed to the actual game. I found a thread on Steam about the same error (though with a different VN - Cross Channel) and someone said that you need to have a certain Windows update. I actually have it already. I can run If My Heart Had Wings fine, and it uses the same engine/system. If there's nothing I can do, then it's alright... I will try running DameKoi on another machine. *shrug*

Yeah, that's probably why. I've heard similar things about real life porn. Since I don't fit the main demographic for eroge, I actually like to see the protagonist in H scenes. Geh, I agree the moaning is awkward, especially if the scene is long. Doesn't matter if it's the girl or the boy, it's weird seeing a static CG and hearing non-stop moaning. Regarding Makoto's voice, yeah, it's a bit grating. I don't know why, but he sounded different to my ears in Shiny Days too. Like, really bad.

I am the same, though even with self-insert protagonists I don't see myself as them. There are reasons for that, one is that I cannot imagine myself as another person, at least in terms of personality. I don't have the exact thoughts as the main character either. In any kind of media, I can relate to the protagonists but I am always the observer. I second the tag recommendations. You will probably want to stay away from "Hetare" and "Boke" as well. "Hetare" are the classic spineless MCs that people complain about. I'm another newbie - I've known VNs for ages but read very little so far. One thing I've seen is a protagonist with a face in CGs but no voice, and in H scenes he is faceless or does not appear.

Seconding If My Heart Had Wings. I have the same problem as yours, when shit goes over the top and makes me suspend my disbelief I just get put off. Someone else suggested Making Lovers - I had a problem with that one because it is a dating sim which doesn't take itself seriously - it is a comedy after all. I am not iin the mood for that kind of thing at the moment. I plan to finish it later. You might enjoy it though. Here are some points about If My Heart Had Wings: It is very light hearted, conflicts/issues are minimal so you don't have to worry about getting depressed or anything. The romance is great, even the H scenes are cute. The protagonist is intelligent, proactive and knows how to act around women. There is a fair amount of infodumping about gliding and aerodynamics - when I first read it, I found these parts immensely boring but as it turns out, gliders are quite interesting. The art is beautiful, and all the heroines have good personalities. I want to get A Sky Full of Stars from the same company (Pulltop) but I don't know if the translation is reliable. To Heart 2 (haven't read this one yet but I heard that it is a pure love story) Kira*Kira (has drama) and Deardrops from the same developer Katawa Shoujo (has drama and bad endings but it is excellent)

I concur. I did partake in interesting discussion in one game-related channel but most of the time people spam random memes. I want to have an actual conversation, not just play around.

I was playing this game a few days ago - I didn't know how to unlock the clothes. There doesn't seem to be any guide. I only had a few options and I'd been taking care of Sylvie for more than a month. I heard it's linked to high affection/lust. It seems like socks and accessories are the fastest items to unlock, whereas actual clothes take a while. I eventually got bored of the game after 5 hours of playing it nonstop. I wish there were more things to do. :/ What does the blue flower do, exactly?

I think I have the answer. They probably congregate in 2ch. Doubtful that the Japanese use Reddit - the language barrier is large. I've seen very few Japanese there. EDIT: 2ch is now 5ch and it looks like a blog. WTF?

I'm sad to say that I must be the only one who didn't like this game, at least the very little I've played. I will give it another chance when possible. I appreciate the character design and the concept though.

Not exactly what you're looking for but Family Project has a poor protagonist and heroines. None of them are wealthy. Hope that isn't a huge spoiler.

I agree that high resolution/good graphics doesn't necessarily result in better products. Is it because you have trouble with lower resolutions? Try using windowed mode or changing graphics' settings. There are ways to make the image less stretched. I believe the YU-NO remake has 1080p, seeing it is a recent release. If My Heart Had Wings uses 1280x720 or similar but there are options that you can choose so it doesn't look weird. My monitor only goes up to 1366x768 though so take my suggestion with a grain of salt. Steins;Gate 0 is 1080p as well.

Swan Song Euphoria (nukige, quite messed up - unfortunately I stopped reading when I reached the second act, I found it too ridiculous) Saya no Uta School Days (as said before, it has a fair amount of bad endings - they're not depressing in my opinion but still... wrong) Kara no Shoujo 1/2 and Cartagra (use a walkthrough) It is due to the exploration system that I gave up on reading KnS - it's not bad at all, I just got exhausted. I will probably revisit it some time in the future. I'm actually autistic (Asperger's) so I find this an interesting question. As said before, Katawa Shoujo has an implied autistic heroine, Swan Song has one too (she is "lower" functioning), and it could be argued that a certain love interest from If My Heart Had Wings is on the spectrum. Here is why I think so: I don't think the protagonist from Chaos;Head is autistic. He probably has a mental illness. I find him similar to Tatsuhiro from Welcome to NHK.
