"Maou" replied to allpukmaster's topic in The Coliseum of Chatter
There's never going to be a "flawless" adaptation of a VN. "Shuffle!" was a good stand-alone as an anime, but I don't think it truly did the series justice. It gave it a pretty good shot, I'll say that much, but it fell short on a few notes, like Kaede suddenly becoming a yandere, Kikyo being a villain, and, in my opinion the biggest fault - the rather rushed conclusion. Still better then how Tsukihime and the original Kanon would've turned out.... had adaptations for those even existed. I mean, if they had, they probably would be abominations. And then there's Clannad - an anime that stands as a testiment that there *are* good VN adaptations out there. Sure, they have to take liberties in narrative because, again, single route. But Clannad did it right in my opinion. No constant back and forth - they knew what story they wanted to tell, and they stuck with it. I think another major problem with adaptations is that the producers/writers try too hard to appiese *everyone* that more often then not, they end up with a jumbled mess that satisifes nobody. Clannad's strength was that it picked a single route - Nagisa - and generally stuck to it. They seemed to know where it was they wanted to go with it - a focused direction. Most VN's don't have that - they spend too much time teasing. -

I don't know if that means there working diligantly on making it good... or are so underconfident about it that they can't release anything. I pray to God it's the first one - I know that probably won't be the case, but still. Also, from what I could tell of the promotional stuff for the orginal three games, they seem to push Yumiko more then the others - since her face is the one they display over the links to the other two games from the "Grisaia no Rakuen" website. But then again, looking at what I've seen of Rakuen, that would be easier to adapt then "Kajitsu," since... -

IDK if anyone's heard, but keeping up with the off-topic topic of adaptations, in addition to Fate/ Stay Night, the VN "Grisaia no Kajitsu" is getting an anime adaptation as well (Yes, I know that's probably old news, but I'm not always on the ball with some things), although that one was announced in 2013. Might come out in the next year or two, maybe, since they said the plans for the anime were drawn up in 2010, one month before "Grisaia no Kajitsu" was released in stores. Who wants to take bets as to which girl they pick as Yuuji's love interest (My money's on either Yumiko, as she's the "common" route, or Amane, as she's arguibly the "main heroine"), and who want's to take bets on wheather it'll suck or not? -

Personally, I think the ending and wrap-up was a bit rushed with that one. -

Well, in comparison to the VN, yeah, it's pretty bad. But, if you're judging it on it's own merits, and make no comparisons to the VN, or have even read the VN to know what the differences are... then it's something to laugh at, at least. Either because you enjoy pointless slap-stick and satirized sex-jokes, or because it's admittedly easy to crack up at the illogic that laces many parts of the plot and narrative - or face-palm at and have a deep, introspective debate with yourself or your friends at "What the flying F*@# were they thinking?" And if you're a sucker for pointles, gratuitous fan-service, you ought to be set for life - I'll give it that much. So, at the very least, it's something you and your fellow otaku's/anime fans can watch once for kicks (because once is probably all you'll be able to take before the illogic begins destroying brain functions) and get a good laugh out of the absurdly off-the-wall writing and narrative - as long as you don't compare the superior VN to it. Then, you'll just be either pissed off, or disappointed. -

Well, yeah, but that would have been... you know, the smart thing to do. Not the "flaunt the sex appeal" thing to do. I mean, I like boobs and asses as much as the next guy, but don't be so off the wall about it! At least, not unless the VN/Manga you're basing it off of was like that. There's a difference between good fan-service, and insulting your intelligence, and Majikoi's adaptation most certianly insulted my intelligence - mine and every other person who watched it. It would have been more productive to boil battery acid and huff the fumes for the next three hours. -

Well, that's true - Clannad was a pretty good anime. As for the new FSN, I'll admit it looks pretty damn promising, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't still nervous - so far, all I've seen are the visuals and some fight teasers. I want to see some of the real meat - the story. Though, if it's as good as the visuals, I'll be hooked! Speaking of stories, does anyone know what differences there'll be between the new FSN anime and the original VN's? I know it's reported to be a new path, but has anyone released anything saying how much is or isn't going to make it into the anime? Or is it all under wraps? -

I forgot about "Shuffle!" And, while I can agree that they did relatively well splicing the routes, the rather abrubt way it ended still pissed me off. -

That tends to be a problem with most VN adaptations - the appeal of VN's is in group dynamics and multiple paths. Grisaia No Kajitsu and it's sequals. Fate/ Stay night. Tsukihime. The Majikoi series. Clannad. The appeal comes from choice-driven narrative and characer interactions - all of which are pretty damned limited in anime adaptations, which are just not as flexible. That being said, what would be done to make it actually work? Because thus-far, most VN adaptations suck. Especially some of the English dubs, which don't seem to convey as much emotion as the original Japaneese. Worse case of that was the Tsukihime adaptation - in my opinion, at least. So... was the Majikoi S! potential anime just a rumor, then? -

Since this was my fault, I'll try something - the topic of adaptations. And I'll even include the "S" from the "earthworm" comment. I heard rumor once that they were going to try and adapt Majikoi S! Into an anime like the original Majikoi. Saw an animated trailer, but I think in hindsight that was for the game, not a second anime. Bottom line - Is that true or not? And if so... do you'd think an anime adaptation of Majikoi S! would suck? I mean, aside from the very first episode, I was unable to watch more then four episodes of the anime adaptation for Majikoi - too many sex jokes, not enough character. Something I think the anime adaptation of the manga "Rosario + Vampire" suffered from too. Would an anime of Majikoi S! fare even remotely better then the last? -

... Note to self: I must never become a psychologist. I'd like to see a *decrease* in the suicide rate, and not add to it. Still, at least we know that we're almost there - between the 55% on Agrave, and the roughly 60% on Miyako, we're over half-way there to the main routes being compleated. And it's 55% higher on Agrave then TakaJun ever got. Something to celebrate regardless, right? -

If you say so. Not entirely sure what I said - just that people don't want to feel like this translations in danger of getting brought to a halt. I'm just happy that there *is* still progress on Miyako's route. Sorry about the atmosphere though - my sister says I'm a pessimist. Tells me I could make Italy (from Hetalia) become all "doom and gloom" within five minutes. As a sick joke, she even sowed together a Scarecrow costume straight out of the Batman comics for me because I "make people want to shoot themselves after talking with them five minutes with how (I) have to pick apart everything they say, like it's a contest or some mystery." ... I'm not... I'm not *really* like that, am I? -

I see. Also, after these two are done, are you thinking about the sub-routes, like Chika and Captan and the rest? Or are you just focused on getting these two done and over with first before you decide on wheather or not you're doing the rest? -

I know Kosuna's not the most... in touch, regarding the people that frequent this page, is what I'm saying. Point of fact is that, far as I can tell, this is a pretty abrubt announcement to everyone out of the blue, and if it really was an idea that wasn't his - an idea that was suggested to him - I actually see even less reason for how it wasn't possible to give people a head's up before it was put to debate with the rest of the TL team. It would be easier to understand if it had been his idea, since he's not the most open person on the fourms, after all. Most people could attribute that lack of communicatuon as typical. I know I'm likely coming across as condesending right now, but I think if it's something someone else in the group suggested to him, that's a bit tricker to get past. I think people feel that, if the group had been more verbal about any concerns or fears, or at the very least let you know to tell people that such a priority shift was at least a possibility in the future - kept more in touch with such concers, people wouldn't feel so worried about what's basically a simple change in gears. Even more so if the idea was something that was suggested to Kosuna as opposed to an actual idea he had - if you're going to change gears like that, if it's even possible that such a concern exists, give people some heads-up so that, when you're done with the staff meetings, they've got some idea of what to expect of not. They're still scared over the vanishing act TakaJun pulled, so the only other active translator - who already made it cleare he won't actively post anything here himself, mind you - announcing priority shifts so suddenly is rather nervewrecking to them, I'd guess. I know it's not always possible for everyone to do, and I don't know your spicific circumstances, but you can't blame the rest of us for being so nervous regarding this particular translation. Well, yes, but you keep it updated with the work that Kosuna and the rest of the team do. Without him translating the text, there's not much of a translation. You, Azangar and all the rest doing quality checks and program splicing and all that, and keeping us updated with progress, but that's mostly because Kosuna doesn't comment on this page himself, nor ever will by his own word and choice. If this thread was just about the prospect of translation Miyako's route, it might not be so frequented - the fact that there's actual progess after 15 months is what's got people excited. This page is about translating Miyako's route, and Kosuna's the one doing actual translation. That, in my personal opinion at least, makes him the one that "started" the thread, as it's topic - that the route *would* be translated - became a real possibility after he started and gave it purpose. And, since you and Azangar do in fact know how to contact him, and frequent this page.... how was I wrong? More to the point, who else would I have been talking about? It's been Day-1 fact that you and Azangar are the only ones that can reach him, and the two of you frequent this page. And it's kept alive by the updates on Kosuna's progress - him and the rest of the team. Case in point, in my opinion. Again, I personally don't see it as a possibility. And even if TakaJun did release a patch, he put a disclaimer on Yandere's site saying anyone can edit or change their work if they want - meaning that there probably wouldn't be any hard feelings. Hell, they might even compliment you for taking care of it for them, if they were still active. And, looking at how long the entirety of the Yandere team is off the grid, again, I really doubt that the effort you're putting into this will be wasted. And once again, did I not just say that no one was really mad with him? Just that they were riled up by the sudden delay, and even more so that they weren't aware this was a possibility to begin with. It's more the lack of communication they're upset over, not the people doing the talking. As for Yandere, I suppose that's to be expected. It's strange though that the entire team vanished. If it was just TakaJun, that would be somewhat easier to understand, but the whole group gone at around the same time? I don't buy it - something happened. -

That actually reminds me of something. Once you're done with Agrave, and if it turns out that Yandere doesn't return from oblivion and release a Miyako patch: will you hold off on releasing Agrave until Miyako's done and release the two side-by-side, or will you release Agrave as is with a modded save-file for those that want to play it? Just wondering, since I don't think anyone's confirmed that one way or the other yet. -

Then he could at least keep better contact with you two. No one hates him - let's get that out of the way. But ever since TakaJun fell of the map, sudden delays and priority shifts like this tend to ruffle feathers a bit. People might start getting afraid that something crazy's going to happen right before he finishes - you said roughly 55-65% for Miyako right now, correct? I think getting so close to.... that dreaded number that still another 20-30% away, that people are naturally going to get just a *little* bit paranoid about delays. -

"Maou" replied to allpukmaster's topic in The Coliseum of Chatter
I can understand not wanting to step on any toes, but with all due respect, after 15 months of absence, the chance of Yandere suddenly returning is slim. I can get it if he wants to play it safe, but it would have been nice to know that right off the bat - that's all people are saying. If you mean that his translation effort is the entire reason this thread exists to begin with, then yes, I consider him the one that started this thread, indirect as it maye have been. He may have come after it was started, but you can't deny that his work on the TL is what's gotten this thread so popular, and at the very least, it's frequented by people that have been, or know how to contact him. As for the shift in priority, again, I understand not wanting to step on toes if TakaJun suddenly returns from the dead, but in my honest opinion, I don't think it's likely, and I don't think people want Kosuna to worry about another TL that's likely not even in the field anymore. And from what I know of Kosuna's sporadic reply system, the shift change probably came out of the blue somewhat, right? Come to think of it... did you guys actually hear of any activity from Yandere? Is *that* what's got Kosuna shifting gears? Or is it just a last-minute precaution? -

Then why the hell was the thread named "Majikoi Miyako Route Translation" if it was "never about translating Miyako"? Not to be rude, but talk about your false advertizing - it's like the boy who cried wolf. After TakaJun vanished, you do not joke about this stuff unless you want to be castrated by a rusty cheese grater - trust me on that one. I know from experience And as for the harm it would cause, again, is it any worse then what's going down now? If he "doesn't really care for this thread" then why the hell was it started? I know this is going to sound judgemental, but I think he's playing with fire by announcing a priority shift like this so abrubtly. As far as everyone knew, Miyako was the primary focus and Agrave was secondary, not the other way around. If that was wrong, it should have been corrected early on - I think there would have been less complaints. Now, had he, or someone that was in contact with him (as much as is possible, given his periodic schedule) let us know what the actual order of priority was, there would be less issue. Because right now, I think the real reason people are pissed is not because of an extra amount of time to wait (we've waited 15 months already, after all), but rather that Kosuna apperently didn't clarify on which route was coming first. Had he been a bit more spicific on what was coming out first and said "Agrave first" from the start, people wouldn't be so ticked off. As long as they knew it was coming. -

More like he's engrossed in his work - both fan-translation, and whatever job he's doing to pay the bills. I mean only one of these pays real cash. And at the very least, it's more then we've had for the past fifteen months.
