  1. I'm interested in ME/EX just to see how they can possibly get the reader to sympathize with her. That's my most anticipated route of the three new ones, just because she's kind of a rotten bitch in the original game, so I really want to see how they handle that.
  2. I'm almost positive that Koestl said he'd do it either way. And he's not a Sekai Project employee. edit: looking back, I'm not sure he said it outright, but it's sort of implied. And if sekai project drops the series after Grisaia, wouldn't that pretty much end their relationship with frontwing? And since Koestl is independent, I don't see what would hold him back.
  3. Yes they're going to be translated. The translator was contracted by MangaGamer to translate another game (Ourai no Gahkthun) but he plans on going back to the sequels once he's done with that. Additionally, Sekai Project officially licensed Grisaia and it might even speed up the process if they pick up the sequels as well. But even if they don't pick up the sequels, the translator plans on doing them either way.
  4. lol "a bad person." people are way too invested in this.
  5. If the only reason you play VNs is for ero/ecchi, then yeah, stop playing Little Busters because you won't get that there. Even in the Ecstasy version, the h-scenes are really terrible.
  6. Rest in peace, Pepper, my feline companion.

  7. Spoilers! Unsurprising spoilers but still spoilers. Just read Comyu, it's real good and has an idol.
  8. The translator is MIA, nobody has heard from him in ages. The groups IRC channel was Tokidan@Rizon but good luck getting a hold of anyone.
  9. Wanko just felt like it was trying too hard. The protagonist was a total blow-hard and full of shit most of the time, but man did the creators want you to think he was the coolest guy ever. Ikikoi, well, it was just terribly unfunny. I've tried to get into it multiple times. The comedy is exceptionally poor.
  10. Aren't some of those pretty obvious? I mean, boob wars? Wanko, TtT, Ikikoi, Harem Party, and several others are total garbage. edit: For the nukige, that's a really poor selection of it even by nukige standards. Outside of the nukige, Wanko, TtT, Ikikoi, Harukoi Otome, and Canvas 2 all have very little merit, in my opinion.
  11. Muv-Luv Extra is a little bit difficult to finish. It's just... real bad. Its humor is especially terrible. A lot of the events are so boring. Feel free to ctrl past everything to do with lacross. There's some very minor character foreshadowing there but oh my god is it boring.
  12. For my first dozen or so VNs, I read them consecutively, one at a time. Then I noticed that I've read all of the best VNs translated to english and that everything else was way below them in quality, and I kind of stopped caring. I now have like 10 incomplete VNs and it's kind of a mess. My latest accomplishment: finishing a route in Yumina. I'm probably going to spend a while reading some other stuff before going back to that one. The last VN I read all at once in just a few days was Steins;Gate after the JAST release.
  13. Sharnoth's art is fantastic. I like Liar-Soft's art in general. They run the gamut of art styles, changing things up from game to game, but they're always different from what everyone else is doing. Unfortunately, the one MG is bringing over has the most mundane art style, but it still looks pretty good.
  14. Uugggghh, Muv Luv Hair. It's kind of hard to take MLU and MLA seriously when hair like that is constantly around. You can tell that Age kind of regret their original character designs. Every single new character introduced in MLA and subsequent games have totally reasonable hair and character designs.
  15. Things I don't like in an art style: Regular clothes that are somehow skintight just around the bust. I'm sorry, but it looks ridiculous. Also, massively oversized breasts. I feel a little weird obsessing over how breasts are drawn but really, it's usually because the game's art is being really... perverted? It makes me embarrassed to read VNs with that style. I just like a more grounded art style and some games that present massively exaggerated proportions quickly turn me away. Minori's art provides perfect examples. In their earlier titles, like Wind and Ef, their body proportions were reasonable, their character and clothing designs appropriate and not distracting, and their CGs were well drawn. Now their most recent adopt the complete opposite philosophy. All of the heroines' bodies are egregiously proportioned and it just looks terrible. It makes me sad that Minori ditched the more modest/halfway-realistic style in favor of the outrageous style they have now. Other than that, it's really on a case-by-case basis. I don't really like old art styles too much. Of course, it felt like VNs were 10+ years behind the trends in anime, with a lot of the early 2000s stuff looking like they've come from a bad '88 TV show. I just can't appreciate that style of art. Also I don't have much tolerance for poorly executed art. Bad line art, shitty anatomy, lack of variation, etc. I can't play Higurashi without the sprite replacements, and I still haven't played Symphonic Rain because of the art (but I will get around to it eventually, I swear). Rewrite's art was really lackluster, and I'm being serious. This is for different reasons than the above. Key's art just looks bad. Of course, on a technical level, the execution was much better in Rewrite. Better color work, better anatomy, etc. I just don't like the faces or something. This is why I turn off voice skip in games with that option. I can't really understand them much anyways and I get to hear most of their lines even when breezing through the text. In a lot of VNs, the voices end up expressing a lot of emotion and such that the text fails at portraying.
  16. For people excited just for Harvest Fiesta being up next, you really should give Comyu a shot. It's pretty great. Well considering the MangaGamer news, that's not really a guarantee. Even if he doesn't do more Akatsuki Works stuff, hopefully this patch raises awareness of their games enough that more people will be interested in further translations.
  17. Watched the first couple episodes of Aldnoah.Zero. Well, the production values are high. And uh, that's it. Everything else about it is sub-par at best. The writers lack any sense of subtlety. Every character is the biggest cliche, every plot point the biggest trope, every line is as hammy as possible. I suppose there may be some entertainment value inherent in that, but it's apparent that they're trying to make it a really serious and original show. They fail at that quite miserably. I can't count how many times I rolled my eyes in the first episode, from the grizzled veteran who can't work without drinking and dishes out lengthy bouts of exposition for no reason, to the pure-hearted princess who just wants peace and likes the earthling boy, who gets beaten by his superior for not knowing his place. It's as hamfisted as it gets. And none of the characters are likeable. But it looks pretty.
  18. They're a subsidiary of Pulltop, their own english localization company. Konosora is their only release, and they made the game all-ages (truly all-ages, removing even kiss scenes) and butchered the translation.
  19. The only reason Majikoi isn't more popular is because its translation isn't complete. It's highly rated, respected, and as popular in the english speaking community as a game with an incomplete patch can be.
  20. Reason #1 why Sabagebu is good: I just really like the main character.
  21. So far the highlight of the season for me is Zankyou no Terror, even though we've only seen one episode so far. I'm really interested in seeing where they go from there. Psychopathic main characters are always hard to do right, but I have a feeling that the girl is secretly the actual protagonist. Sabagebu surprised me, I was expecting it to be much worse than it was. Kind of amusing that they turned a shoujo manga into some fanservicey shounen anime but I guess that's not all that uncommon. The humor is solid and I like how aggressive the main character is. Any show willing to break the fourth wall that often is okay by me. Another surprise show for me is Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun. At first I was kind of baffled by it but then I discovered that it's an adaptation of a 4-koma gag manga and altered my expectations. Embrace the stupid. Tokyo Ghoul is meh. It just failed to grab me I guess. I don't even care about the censorship, as I doubt it would really be enhanced that much by it. I haven't tried Akame ga Kill but I disliked the manga and I heard the anime isn't any better. It's almost comical how it constantly tried to one-up itself without really providing anything of substance. I'm going to give Argevollen and Aldnoah a shot, although I'm not really big on mecha. SAO2: lol, no.
  22. Shinji from FSN is an obvious choice. They do a pretty good job of making you despise that piece of shit. I'd have to agree with people saying Chinami. It would be hard to make a character more obnoxious than her. I'll also say the protagonist from Cross Channel. He's just so unlikeable.
  23. Shuffle felt like a disjointed mess. I didn't like it very much. But its setting and attempts at humor were at least a bit more interesting. Da Capo 1 was also really boring, yeah. DC2 was quite a bit better but still not exactly great, at least I liked it more than YnS. Just everything about Yosuga no Sora felt dull to me. The character interactions, the humor, the drama, even the art. Maybe because I was reading the fan translation. The writing is really dry.
  24. The VN is just about the most boring thing I've ever (partially) read. For real, it's ridiculously dull.
  25. You know there are spoiler tags. edit: And that's pretty much the definition of "Classic Tsundere". One who starts off hostile but warms up eventually and never turns back. That's how most used to be (hence the distinction between "'classic" and "modern" on VNDB). Mizuha is textbook tsundere.
