I was just wondering, are there any other VNs like Princess Waltz? A good Fantasy kind of story with interesting characters (magical powers, etc.) and a fun card-based battle. I'm not talking about super serious strategic card battles.. just fun anime-like ones that aren't incredibly complicated (such as the one in Princess Waltz, or even something similar to Yu-Gi-Oh)... I'd like some romance included too... either just part of the story or able to romance a female character in it.
Preferably in English
. If anyone knows any games like that, please share. Thanks!
You can share some Japanese ones if they're really good... I may be curious to look them up.. although, I might not be able to currently play them at the moment (my JP level isn't that high).

The latest episodes... (I just finished ep17)
My heart felt like it shriveled up when Chelsea died... and to make it worse, her head got spiked
I knew it was coming for awhile, but it was still sad to see. Whyyyy~! She had a really useful Imperial Arm too.. what a waste.

Bioware's always had a knack for creating quirky funny characters. Morrigan was an excellent example but they seemed to lose that for DA2, which was a shame
I think Isabel & Aveline were supposed to be the new funny pair in Dragon Age 2... There's some abuse comedy between them, but you see it even more when you help with Aveline's romance quest and bring Isabel along.
I mean it was funny, but still not as entertaining as Morrigan & Alistair^^

I can't really remember... because I tend to drop bad ones, never finishing them... or perhaps it was so bad, I just forgot about them. xD
If I managed to finish it, then I wouldn't really count it as the worst experience.
Oh... there have been ones I expected more from, and was disappointed. I liked the School Days anime more than the VN. The characters all annoyed me as well, even more than the anime. The H-scenes made me cringe too, I actually preferred to fast-forward through them. And repeating scenes to re-do choices was also really annoying. I was only able to get through it because I wanted the one girl to get a happy ending compared to the anime, lol (but even that was forgettable).

Today I learned the word for being fired, one of them at least, there's probably more: 首になる
I can see the reasoning there:
Becoming a neck - Being beheaded - Losing your job.
I just don't see the reasoning behind being "fired". What losing your job has to do with fire?

Well they did say that Morrigan was the most popular DA character by far so let's hope that she at least gets some big role, and with god baby and everything, well I am expecting exactly that.
She was my favorite by far too, true I also liked Alistair a lot he really knew how to make a good mod and I could newer get enough of teasing him. And it seems that he will have some rule in DA:I too. Other then them from a party of DA:O the ones I liked ware Leliana, Zevran and Shale and at least Leliana is confirmed to be in DA:I out of those 3. From side characters I liked Lady of the forest and I really hope she gets to be in DA:I and maybe have a little bigger rule then in DA:O, well at least for those who managed to keep her alive, it was probably one of hardest choices to make in a game.

Well, I'm currently being wow'd right now with Tears to Tiara 2. But the last game I had finished that made me literally say out loud "Wow..." after I completed it, was Danganronpa 2 on the PSvita.

First person that popped into my mind... Chikane from Kannazuki no Miko ^^
She has this passionate/protective aura about her.
-
I was doing some reading and found out that Morrigan will be in the party at certain times but she wont be a full time companion.
-
TtT2 actually had a Japanese demo which was like chapter 1.
-
I'm soo excited, mostly because it seems Morrigan is coming back!! I loved her in the first game... and was kind of disappointed her story wasn't continued in the 2nd game. I just like the whole medieval fantasy aspect of both games though, and it's nice you can romance your party xD
If I play.. I'm probably going to make my character some kind of rogue-like. I tend to like going all power or assassination kind of battle character.
Probably Elvish or Human.

I like demos.. but I wouldn't try a demo anyways if I didn't have some interest in possibly playing/purchasing it at some point. So there have been some I've tried, and was just convinced to buy it... and some I've tried, where it convinced me otherwise and they've lost me as a potential buyer. So I guess it's kinda true overall.. they don't really help sales that much, lol. But it's still nice to have as the consumer. I trust my own judgment in whether a game could be good or not than someone else's reviews etc... but I will look at other sources if I have no other choice.
I haven't really played VN demos though... but if I did, I'd look for how good the Story can potentially be. Whether there are any interesting characters I like. Are there any other gameplay aspects, like rpg elements or potential choices branching into different story arcs. I personally think... as a VN, it's probably best to start from the beginning because story is the most important part of it.... I wouldn't start reading a book by randomly opening it to the middle. (that's just me though)
If Tears to Tiara 2 counts as a VN... I would have already been hooked by middle/end of first chapter (if it was a demo).
I think maybe at least 1hr-2hr would be good enough to determine whether something could potentially be good or not.. and a nice teaser.

ahh, I didn't read everyone's posts.. but here's my experience.
I grew up playing RPG games at a very young age. Before my English was even enough to understand exactly what was going on and where to go xD... mostly just random exploring and playing. As my English improved in school, I suddenly started to understand more as I played and could actually go through some parts of the game (btw this was like Final Fantasy 3). I even picked up vocabulary words like Gauntlet, Helmet, etc. that no one knew in class xD. I don't remember the exact moment I had the boost in English understanding, but I started to play & understand some of the harder games like Final Fantasy 7 and such.
My interest in video games also branched off into an interest in Visual Novels. I'm definitely not a bookworm... about 80% of books I've read in my life have been forced on me by school xD.. and last 20% is when I'm just really bored, was something specific I wanted to learn.. or rare chance I read something just for pure enjoyment (like Harry Potter). But it's like what someone mentioned.. for people that don't actually read books much, playing a heavy-text game.. sometimes I don't even notice that I'm reading that much, because it feels like I'm playing. It's just a more fun medium, and more stimulation for me personally, than a book to keep me interested.
I guess what I'm saying.. is that if it weren't for other mediums of reading, such as video games, visual novels.. maybe even anime subtitles & manga.. perhaps, I wouldn't have read as much as I have xD. Whether it still helps me now or not, I'm not sure... but I think it did when I was still in the process of learning English and practicing it. I was practicing without even noticing it.
ooh, and I do remember times in the past I've used a dictionary as I played games xD. See, it gave me that much motivation to figure out what things meant, and it wasn't even my homework, lol.

I don't mind playing older games, since I grew up with those kinds of graphics xD I know there are some good ones out there despite the graphics not being up to par with more recent games, so it's worth digging up.
Plus, I almost prefer old school rpgs since I have a bit of a motion sickness thing, lol. I won't be naming older games I enjoyed since it'd be long... but it's very similar to Clepha's rpg retro games list.

I can easily say Final Fantasy 9 is my favorite among the FF series. I just love the setting, atmosphere, music, and story.
I also liked Final Fantasy 4-7-8-10 games too though. But 9 stands on top as my favorite.

I think I try.. I like to collect games I enjoy so there are some VNs I've bought from JAST and Mangagamer which I've already played before, and some I've just bought because it looked good and I knew I'd enjoy it.
However, I'm more picky when it comes to spending on VNs, since it's more of a secondary hobby compared to Rpg gaming on consoles (I'm willing to support those more.. so most of my money goes there).
I don't like buying VN downloads.. so I will only buy the games with physical copies.

Ooooh another who's playing TtT2
How far are you?
-
The main draw of TtT2 is the story itself I think, and so if someone didn't get interested in it by the first chapter, I doubt they'd even want to buy the game. xD Playing the actual game would be boring if you already knew the whole story by then (just my opinion). So I doubt uploading more than chapter 1-2 will help people buy the game.. but it could increase fans for the actual story of the game, not having played it.

1. Dandere - I can relate to them most
2. Deredere - because they're nice!
3. Kuudere - because they are cool xD it'd be hard, but it'd be interesting if it worked.
they must all have a kind heart

They were just sitting there unused, so I might as well share them^^

I believe the first anime series I watched and really loved was Record of Lodoss Wars. I rented it at a video store when I was about 10years old? I was also watching anime like Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Sailor Moon, DBZ, Card Captor Sakura and Evangelion everyday on TV. (I forget which happened first)
I was already playing RPGs and video games at an early age, so that probably influenced my interest into anime since it had similar elements of fantasy story.

This might not fit since they're not exactly VNs (some of them can be)... but I've been looking into indie Japanese games lately, and noticed some of them can be easy. Plus they are free and short ;p and you can choose your type of genre (so you could look for an adventure type game that doesn't have too much reading, etc. and it can be more immersive too). There were even some games that taught English, so you could learn in reverse maybe xD
You can just type this in google: フリーゲーム and (Translate page) if you want. They can be good practice games^^ (but sorry, no eroge.. I think)
Oh btw - Text hooking does work for these games (I'm not sure if they all do, but the ones I tried worked fine).
-
oooh, I like this thread ^^! The upcoming games I want to play are Dragon Age Inquisition and Tales of Hearts R. I'll come post if I see any new rpgs not on the list yet
There are some I have in mind, but they don't have definite release dates yet

I've played the older games like Atelier Iris 1 & 2, and Mana Khemia and enjoyed them all. I think my favorite of those three would be Atelier Iris 1.. maybe because I enjoyed the shopkeeper Veola's interaction with the main character. It was cute.
I played Atelier Rorona and really liked it too. The first character ending I got was for Lionela (my favorite). I think I got all the character endings, and Astrid's ending too^^
Which character was your favorite in Rorona, which ending did you get first?
I've been wanting to play Ayesha (also because I like the color green xD)
